I literally don't understand what's so bad about Jax.No, like really, I feel like I'm going insane trying to situate what about him provokes such a visceral reaction in people and even in Goose, that everyone calls him irredeemable and an abuser. Even his supposed most "evil" thing was just demanding Ribbit stop talking to him and Ribbit deciding to suicide over it instead of just talking to literally anyone else, which is bad from him but absurdly overreacted from her. Everything else he's ever done is just childish pranks, like legitimately I had far worse problem classmates back when I was in school, and all they got was grounded or given stern talks to. The one, single actual evil thing that could have legitimately pissed off people he seems to have ever actually done was press the button, and everyone just immediately forgets about it, accepts it wasn't real anyway and excuses it because of the panic attack anyway.This is the same fucking show where Cain actually physically and mentally tortured the whole cast for days. And unlike in the normal adventures, he actually had a say on whether they felt pain or not, so the Looney Toons shenanigans caused actual suffering rather than just annoyance.This isn't only a defense of Jax though, it's also questioning the whole story. Why the FUCK is it centered on Jax? Nothing he did was so brutal or shocking to fixate on him. He's milquetoast af. He really, unironically would just be the mediocre obligatory "funny guy" character in any other show with better writing. He did not merit swerving the entire show to focusing entirely on him. There's something that I'm struggling to understand about indie animation in terms of writing and tone. When I was a kid, I absolutely hated "kiddie shit". Whether that be Disney cartoons, cartoons forcibly sanitized underneath a corporate body or from the complaints of soccer moms and always wanted to see darker or more mature themes in animation.I'm autistic myself and I absolutely do not relate to this particular brand of autism where they are obsessed with things like musicals, keepingeverything safe and happy, etc.Instead of wanting darker or more mature themes in animation, everything is the same, self-censored, PG-13, quippy, tumblr/MCU tier tone. He owes her no emotional labor and she needs to respect his boundaries.- While Pomni is a loser who accomplished nothing by going into the Jaxstraction, she did demonstrate that Jax is a complex person, maybe the most complex in the Circus, and even with all of his trauma it shows his strength of character that he was able to keep himself together for so long.- Zooble and the gang broke their promises to Jax to help him, like so many people have broken their promises to Jax before.
