It's actually a lot of fun. Better than Kevin Smith MOTU, it knows what it is, and pokes fun at modern woke with an HR scene at the beginning. Message: sometimes talking doesn't work so you have to punch a fucker in the face

Golden Books He-Man is the only version that isn’t fake and gay
>>
I just watched it, I thought it was really good. It had pretty much everything you'd want in a He-Man story; there's a bit of ribbing at the ridiculous nature of the setting and characters, but at the end of the day it's clearly proud to be what it is. Poking fun at a guy's name being Fisto doesn't discredit the fact he ends the movie blowing a huge hole through someone and screaming LET'S FIST SOME BAD GUYS!!!; it's written in good faith.

I thought the best part was a toss-up between Skeletor and the framing device; going for a Superman-esque origin was a smart way to bridge the gap between Adam and He-Man, and the juxtaposition of his boring Earth life with the fantastical nature of Alternia helped sell a lot of the emotional beats and conflict really well; there's a really brilliant low point with Skeletor at the end of the movie that cashes in on his Earth side well. Skeletor is likewise perfectly balanced between comedic and genuinely threatening; there's this great running bit where he physically abuses Evil-Lin every time he doesn't get his way, and the movie dupes you into thinking there'll be some heel turn as a result of this, but she genuinely just rolls with it the whole way through.

I likewise enjoyed the through-line, which was essentially that being emotionally forward and working through problems in a mature fashion doesn't make you less of a "man" as long as you know when to take the gloves off. Adam is never made to be lesser for his ridiculous muscles, nor is he anything less than the strongest of the strong when he does cut loose; the literal first time he ever goes He-Man is followed by him bodying Trap Jaw, killing a shitload of mooks and face-tanking a chainsaw ship. He genuinely tries to reason with Skeletor, sure, but that doesn't stop him from beating the absolute dogshit out of him when it doesn't work out.

I'd recommend it. If you watched I Saw the TV Glow, I basically thought it was a "good ending' version of that.

it's a movie that mostly only went to theaters for promotion of it's streaming version.
It's going to be a cult classic in a few years and peak stoner watch material.

They really need to lean into it beign something fathers and grandfathers can watch with their sons and something women and foids can watch for..."fun". At first.
Then segue into the something to watch baked in the afternoon angle. Cause movies like that with something resembling a shared narrative for normie americans is missing in popular media.

Skeletor is not pragmatic in his villainy, he likes to milk the fuck out of being evil. If it's not fun, he doesn't bother - he'll kill someone no problem, but he has to make a big show out of it. There's nothing dramatic or show-stopping about locking up the king, queen and prince all at the same time - you have to let them run a bit, make them believe there's hope. This is also the reason he throws the heroes of Eternia into prison, as opposed to just executing them;, the good guys HAVE to watch and fall into despair as he triumphs.

I also have to imagine he didn't figure the magical inter-dimensional portal would be hiding in a raggedy little cave, but the hamminess is the key here.

>>154055690
Cringer talks very prominently and in multiple scenes. Orko also gets a good moment.

>>154054690
There are a good handful of in-jokes and nods to other versions of He-Man, but yes, it's a perfectly good stand-alone film and you won't miss out not having any prior context beyond a post-credit scene or two. I'd give it a strong 7, low 8.

This is Thor Love & Thunder level of unfunny jokes and almost a parody movie. He-Man using HR speak to waste time and try to defuse, failing to transform for comedic purposes, getting frienzoned. 2/10 only for Leto as Skeletor

It had a lot of really cool moments, like several surprisingly high tier fight scenes. The soundtrack was great and I liked girl Roboto more than I thought I would.
But a lot of the movie felt kind of weird.
Everything about him being double isekai'd felt like extra work to get to the point. And it kept making light of what I thought would have been perfectly fine as serious moments, like the first time he transformed, and Adam and Duncan having heart to heart moments.
I don't even understand what the point of building up Adam as being a new more empathetic hero compared to the previous champions of Grayskull when all his Human Resources stuff was treated as a joke and talking to Skeletor was just a gag leading into He-man just kicking his ass.
>>
>>154056021
I can tell you only watched the trailer
>>
>>154050126
They play the original song, not the actual fan rendition.
...for some reason that version plays in TMNT Mutant Mayhem during a car chase.
>>
>>154056141
Men being "emotional" and "empathetic" aka easy to emotionally manipulate is catnip to women.
>>
>>154051321
>black guy can rescue him and order him around
Man at Arms actually gets shit on even harder than Adam in this movie, it honestly felt like it was overboard. He got his ass kicked by trapjaw in the intro and felt so emasculated he became a horrible drunk for 15 years.
When Adam finds him he's LITERALLY laying in a pile of his own urine and vomit.
>>
>>154055868
It seems like a fun watch, at least to kill some time. I'm gonna watch it this or the next weekend.
>>
Really fucking weird choice to have Adam directly cause his own father's death. I wanna imagine that was a result of weird rewrites.
>>
>>154050078
>>154051553
It makes fun of corporate kindnesses but still values the importance of it, just like how the original He-Man was the hero of children, always telling them lessons and being kind when he could.
>>
>>154056086
It usually works in the cartoon though.
Despite this movie putting so much emphasis on his people skills (the sorceress literally says it's his greatest strength) most the time his attempts to defuse things just ends up with
>Erm.... awkward....
moments or just pissing off the villain more.
So it ultimately felt like a weird red herring.
>>
>>154052423
The earth shit is super pointless. No one he meets on earth seems to have a serious impact on him, and they only exist so Adam can get an i-told-you-so.
It seems like they just wanted Adam to act like an awkward fish out of water and didn't actually care about his earth life or the consequences his actions had on it. I'm pretty sure he left earth as a criminal either way.
>>
I want the She-Ra sequel to start with her beheading her version of Catra. To send a message.
>>
There was far too much Marvel humor and winking at the audience. Skeletor wasn't in it nearly enough.
>>
>>154056545
Yeah, I wouldn't say it's like Ragnarok/Love and Thunder where the bad humor colors the whole direction of the movie but the the bad jokes kept undercutting what would have been perfectly decent serious moments.
>>
>>154056141
>I don't even understand what the point of building up Adam as being a new more empathetic hero compared to the previous champions of Grayskull when all his Human Resources stuff was treated as a joke and talking to Skeletor was just a gag leading into He-man just kicking his ass.

>>
>>154050192
He is the best part of the movie.
>>
>>154056857
The movie at the final battle makes fun of the trouble backstory cliche by He-Man offering Skeletor his hand and asking him to open about his childhood but Skeletor replies he just loves to be evil because it feels great.

>>
>>154057292
They aren't bringing in She-Ra. They might want too, but it's too closely related to the Netflix show and will bring that anti-woke crowd too it.
And they can't spin it as a good thing that the anti-woke crowd hates it to sell it either because that only makes things worse.
>>
>>154057320
>They aren't bringing in She-Ra.
She's one of the after credit scenes
>>
Why did Skeletor mumble half his lines? He should be more eccentric and theatrical.
>>
>>154057320
She's in the end credits shut the fuck up.
>>
>>154057320
Despite the cult fanbase here, the Netflix show was a huge sleeper and Mattel has been perfectly comfortable with promoting classic She-ra and ignoring the Netflix show's existence for several years now.

I have a lore question to anyone who is familiar with general He-Man canon: Does anyone give a shit about Horde Prime? Smith, despite being a moderately well known and celebrated creator, knows when to bend the knee to hollywood.

Everything in the NETFLIX show has their fingerprints all over it. He didn't realize the one time he decided to fully capitulate to the powers that be would bite him in the ass.
When the backlash hit he decided to figure out what made he-man tik and create something for the fanbase rather then netflix product to push the narratives and company line.

Skeletor's line about magic to Hordak says a lot about his mindset I think.

>not a bomb like Mando
Mando's budget was 40mil lower and likely made more opening weekend than this will make total.
Now is it a worse movie? Yes.
Were the expectations higher? Yes.
But purely in terms of money made and merch pushed it's almost certainly going to make more than MOTU. Also Mando's main goal was to make people forget the sequel trilogy which it probably did.

Disney bought their own tickets and Mando and Grogu merch is going to rot on the shelves.
This franchise is a corpse and this movie is years too late to capitalize on it's name recognition alone.

Hordak was really cool in 200x even if he was just background lore. I actually thought they did the Snakeman takeover of the Snake Castle really well too. I never really watched the old cartoon or any comics though. (Except the Kevin Smith one unfortunately.)

Honestly i'm surprised at how health the theatrical market seems to be this year there's a wide variety of movies that are succeeding pretty well, even with Mandalorian doing meh numbers. Hell Scary Movie 6 is going to open to like 60+mil this weekend.

I honestly don't see mando merch going anywhere this christmas. The fact that it didn't open November should tell you something.
As for movies, people WANT a reason to go to movie theaters and be around real human beings again.
It's just that hollywood isn't giving it to them. Iron Lung succeeding in theaters should tell us all that the problem is that no one is excited for MSM movies anymore. They don't have a captive audience they can bully/manipulate into liking whatever slop they crap out now.
They HAVE to try to get people into the theaters.

>That’s more than the last 2 Transformers movies combined.
I don't really see how that matters.
If a movie has to make a billion to break even when everything is factored in (Not saying that's what Supes had to make, this is just a hypothetical) and it only makes 900 mill, then it's still a flop, even if it's more than 5 other movies combined.
A movie isn't a failure based on how much it makes at the box office, but by how much it makes for the studio that payed to make it.
>>
>>154061098
The movie is not just a vehicle to sell a movie.
It's a vehicle to sell merch and streaming services.
Don't you get that.
The studios are okay if a movie underperforms IF IT MOVES MERCH AND SUBSCRIPTIONS.
If it doesn't do that, worse if it damages the brand(if it has one)then it's a bomb.
>>
>>154061347
Unless they own the streaming service, a studio sees very little profit from streaming.
It can add up over time, but it'll take a long time when we're talking multiple of millions it needs to offset.
And merch is not nearly as profitable as it was years ago. And merch also needs to offset it's own production cost.

And I didn't say Supes was a bomb. I simply commented on the fact that it made more at the boxoffice than what two others movies made combined, have zero to do with wether it itself is a bomb or not.
A movie could technically make more than a billion transformers combined and still be a flop.

>Really, none of these culture war fags give a shit about little mermaid, i hate that disney princess singing crap. They only gave a shit and complained as another culture war battleground and another dumb hill to die on for them

It starts with some shit they don't care about like Little Mermaid or Star Wars (in that several billion dollar properties like those are "little"), then it moves on to something else they actually care about, then it moves on to education and law enforcement, then eventually you get fired from work because they passed a law that all jobs must have x% or women, blacks, trans, etc. (which will completely fuck over the profitability of everything because it will be impossible to find the same quality workers with that prerequisite, but that won't matter to asshole politicians who whore themselves for votes).

Zoomer here.
Why you guys think this, Thundercats and G.I. Joe never got the same "respectability" TMNT and Transformers got?
I know that's a weird word to use but it feels like the former examples still managed to attract an audeince across generations while the latter often has people stick their nose up and be used as an example of "80's cringe Gen X'ers can't let go off".
>>
>>154067244
Transformers had a classic like Beast Wars to bridge the Gen X -> Millennial gap.
>>
>>154067244
Transformers and Ninja Turtles have a stronger core concrpt and broad appeal that's easy to rework every few years to appeal to a new audience while still keeping long time fans happy (for the most part at least). He-Man is very much a product of its time, and Mattel diesn't seem to know what to do with it besides appeal to the nostalgia market. GI Joe has the same problem.
>>
>>154067244
Well for He-Man his whole aesthetic as a barbarian warrior was never super popular with millennials and zoomers. That's more of what boomer/gen x liked in there fantasy fiction what with Conan being popular with them. iirc the 2000s He-man show had difficulty getting focus test kids into it because they didn't understand why He-Man didn't wear clothes
>>
>>154067158
Actors doing their job isn’t vandalising.
>>
>>154067462
Not a single person blames the actors for it, goober
>>
>>154067244
Robots have been a popular with children since at least the 1950s, and the basic transforming gimmick is simple but open to countless iterations. There's also the fact that Transformers and TMNT have hadca more consistent presence on toyshelves over the last four decades than He-Man has, with far fewer gaps, so they never faded out of the public consciousness. Even at their respective low points (Generation 2, Next Mutation) kids still knew about them.
>>
>>154067244
Not as familiar with TMNT, but Transformers is good at re-inventing itself, and also got a big shot in the arm from the Bayformers, even if that had numerous downsides. The concept of alien robots that can shapeshift into vehicles while fighting an intergalactic civil war is also just very solid and can find an audience no matter how much time passes.
>>

>>154066055
I think I know where the discrepancy is. See they DO call everyone by name but since Adam was a kid and didn't personally know all of them, those were all the names he came up with that he thought sounded cool at the age of 10. Everyone just sort of adopts the nicknames at the end
>>
>>154056545
>>154056576

The nu animated Masters of the Universe was genuinely one of the worst animated cartoon media I have ever seen.

Is the live action movie actually any better or is OP just a shill?

How come the original He-Man is still the gayest Master of the Universe show despite Netflix She-Ra having a cast entirely made up of cocksuckers?
>>
>>154070684
It was 80s gay, like they didn't outright have men butffucking each other but it still came across as extremely homosexual but an inside the closet way, which made it comically stand out more.

I know the production bible of the original show had an outline for an origin episode (in which Skeletor pretty much has the same backstory as the White Witch from Narnia and his minions are mutant astronauts), but no such episode exists in the actual show, why exactly?

Have you ever read Magician's Nephew? In that book, it's established that the White Witch came from a world named Charn which she had left in ruin because she failed to conquer it, so she put herself in stasis until she could be rescued and when she did she proceeded to try to rule other worlds. Skeletor too came from a ruined world awaiting rescue, only he encountered astronauts from earth, turned them into monsters and went to Eternia in an attempt to find a new world to rule.

You need to go deeper and read about the toy designers unused lore where Skeletors mom and Hemans mom were going to be in Randor's Harem and Randor would throw babies in the pit in the basement to summon monsters. And the castle was founded by ancient alien. And it was a dead giant's corpse used its corpse to make a castle. And had time portals from every era and would have raiders from every time period and it would slowly drive you insane. And in the moat for this castle a baby was thrown in and that was skeletor. When he emerged he was all grown up and a skeleton wizard who took a dragon's eyelid for his hood. And his mom saw what he became and killed her entire village by nuking it with magic

Mattel didn't use any of it but the ancient aliens monster pit and moat are still in the toys.

Subtle trolling has been a tradition of the He-Man franchise:
>Weirdo televanglists complain he's too satanic
>Have an episode where Heman confronts the devil, if not naming or showing him directly.
>New Adventures of Heman has him be incredibly unchristian. He seeks out war, he does not forgive his enemies, and HE IS RIGHT EVERYTIME. Worse, skeletor becomes the old testament devil: He can only be charismatic and manipulate a stupid, ugly warlord into attacking Primus and this version of Skeletor is even more magic reliant.

>He-Man is thought of as a dumb kids cartoon
>Adam is even younger and they get McFarlane's toy team to redesign everything. Brown tints everywhere and He-Man is deliberately doing things to make him look stronger than any other superhero: Lifting Mountains after cutting them through, throwing stone towers into the sun, every goddamn master of the universe has his own kingdom with complex politics that only the people reading about the toys get to know.

>3D He-Man
>Literally make every character the complete opposite of what they were originally and somehow no one is offended. Teela is a black ghetto nerd, ram-man is an 85lbs girl on the rag, Cringer raise adam, Adam is now fraught with doubt and so is duncan who has the -tism. Orko is a robot that is competent sometimes, Skeletor is high on cocaine and likes Beastman, Beastman abuses the shit out of animals, Evil-Lynn is a giant stick with DSLs.
>>
>>154078030
>Nobody blames the actors!
>Well okay they do but that’s normal! No I won’t admit the contradiction because I agree with the racism!
>Also they have to be lying that they get death threats because then I really would look like a bad guy!

Personally, I think it's because GI Joe is about modern American military operations and that makes it too political. I think its because Them, ie elite London based banks and other organizations from there, wanted and continue to try to push youth to be unpatriotic or to hate the American government and it's military. It's better to support cartoons about exploring other cultures or fantastical scenarios than a cartoon if ever slightly touching a real life topic of military intervention, corruption, and the avenues terrorism can affect the world.
>>
>>154078037
They should lean into the politics and danger with a new he-man.
I mean every kid knows the politics of the naruto world, the rules of the death note, and knew all 150 pokemon by heart.
They'll understand.
Can even teach them politics and how to deal with different people and ideas. Suits will try to make it into a techarchy or worship of capitalism. But they can slip something about how worthless they actually are in there under their coked up noses.
And call out the projecting queers who want to make it into a homo show as well.
>>
>>154078030
I think its kind of what they want when they become celebrities. They love the strange life it leads to and would gladly bend over for the opportunity to have such attention as to represent a movie. You don't see the editors going to these talk shows despite 90% of the film relying on them.
>>
>>154078118
>Actors want death threats, actually. They hope for the day that they get targeted for unhinged hate campaigns!

The mental gymnastics you see on this place…
>>
>>154078073
Yes I'm sorry you don't understand how human discussion works but something can technically happen and still not be a big deal or be actually dangerous. Now share some examples of one these actors having a legitimate attempt on their life for one of these roles and not just some mean letter or tweet
>>
>>154050078
Sorry, I just finished watching it, but I was too busy staring at Teela's ass in those tight pants to remember if the movie was fun or not.
>>
>>154078118
This is true too. They don't want legitimate death threats but that attention they get from being able to say someone said something mean to them is definitely a dopamine rush actors love
>>
>>154078164
When you have to keep moving the goal posts every minute it really shows how correct your argument is

>See they DO call everyone by name but since Adam was a kid and didn't personally know all of them, those were all the names he came up with that he thought sounded cool at the age of 10. Everyone just sort of adopts the nicknames at the end

If that's actually in the movie, that's a pretty fucking neat plot point.

I thought it was pretty decent overall. The earth stuff kind of lame and felt like it dragged on a little too long but once he actually went back to Eternia it was enjoyable until the end. Didn't feel like they went too overboard on the quips either.
Anyone who says they emasculated Adam or tried to make Teela a girlboss who has to constantly save him literally didn't watch the movie. After he transforms for the first time it becomes a straight up power fantasy of Adam kicking ass all the way to the end. The final fight against Skeletor is great.
>>
>>154078094
none of you paranoid schizophrenics can actually answer the question 'why would they do that?' in a way that doesn't double down on the paranoid schizophrenia.
>>
>>154050078
The MOTU Skeletor runner is a cute time-waster.

EVIL PASS is a total scam. So fitting.
>>
>>154062311
Revelation was a badly, amateurishly written adaptation of Death of/World Without/Return of Superman because Kevin Smith wanted to write Superman, not He-Man. Many of the first season's weaknesses make more sense if you consider he has never moved on from losing his one shot at writing Supes on the big screen.
>>
>>154080271
My only real complaint is that it just moves super quick at points, like things just happen to happen, I really thought they were gonna give Adam and Man at Arms a little training montage or something after they crash that ship in forest when he starts to get his shit back together so he's ready to actually fight at Snake Mountain.

The fights at the end were great though, love that Adam just immediately starts dismantling Skeletor when he takes things seriously, and that all the character names being kind of goofy just came from his imagination as a kid. It feels like the kind of movie that could have been truly good if they let the serious moments linger for just a bit longer though.
>>
>>154080741
Yeah, that's pretty much my thoughts as well. I feel they should have shortened the Earth stuff and added a scene between the forest and Snake Mountain.
But those complaints aside, it was a really fun movie.

The problem is the money they spent. They did not need to make the movie as long as it is, had they cut it to an hour 40 or 50 it would have made its money back. Instead they spent a whopping 200 M for something that does not justify that investment.
>>
>>154082839
The problem is modern Hollywood can only make cheap horror flicks or 200$ millions productions

>>154081876
>Toy line which was just revived for the movie
I didn't realize that a line running since pre-Covid yearly was "revived". The first Origins figures from the relaunch were in 2020, but the body they used was first released in 2019 with Masters of the WWE Universe as a way to split the production costs of the new bodies. He-man debuted shortly afterwards and then MotWWEU switched to WWE Superstars as straight up Origins style wrestlers instead of being altered to fit the MotU theme.

>I don't even understand what the point of building up Adam as being a new more empathetic hero compared to the previous champions of Grayskull when all his Human Resources stuff was treated as a joke and talking to Skeletor was just a gag leading into He-man just kicking his ass.
I feel like the moral of the story is that being a super strong man that can beat the hell out of people is very important, but being able to work with others and understand them is equally as important.
>>
>>154082839
That's the main issue this is a movie made for a market ten years ago

It's too long and cost too much and China is not gonna be there to bail it out
