If and I mean if she's jean its only to get her existence established so the phoenix can kickstart the x-gene and undo battleworld or whatever at the end of avengers. So she can't look like jean grey or do any comic jean grey shit yet, that would be the reason to deliberately frumpify her so they don't sabotage the x-men with this random disconnected introduction.
