here's my spine tingling a24 slow burn spin on the amazing digital circus, the story starts out with caine repressing new members memories fully as they transition into the circus and all they can remember are contrived, fake digital backstories that would accentuate them being full-on cartoon characters. the fact that they were real people is treated as a major bombshell later on. abstraction occurs because caine only removed their memories not the neurological impact it may have caused, leaving behind members that may or may not feel trauma without actually remembering or grasping exactly why they feel like that, resulting in realistic depictions of panic attacks and irrational fear. it's established as a simple animated short about 5 characters in a game with the mystery of them being real in the past left for the viewer to solve as the show progresses
