It's not that good either. Atla is the type of show that suffers from its own hype, nothing they make will ever live up to it heck the show itself doesn't. It was good show but it was never as "revolutionary" as some people manly Americans blinded by nostalgia seems to think. Plot driven series were already a thing in 90s with Spiderman and X men cartoons and even in the 2000s you had TMNT which came out 2 years earlier than Avatar, in Canada, France and Italy they were making stuff like Code Lyoko, Winx Club and Monster Allergy, Di Gata defenders and many other shows

I mean the thing regarding females fighting is that I think that's somewhat valid since yes there was X-men, but that was an existing established IP, plus I know as a kid watching PPG when it made the jab about lack of female super heroes and or they're just a secondary to their male counterpart, weirdly enough didn't bring up any of the female X-men, but that probably has to do with not being allowed to.

Personally for me when it comes to major female characters in a non-super hero show, anime was my first time seeing it via 4kids One Piece with Nami having her first 1v1 fight in Alabasta. The world building I would admit is good but you need more than that. The plot suffers a lot of from some pacing problems, weaker episodes and inconsistencies. Book 2 way way better than what came before and after. In terms of animation it's similar to a lot of other 90s and 00s cartoon, some good looking episodes and some weaker looking ones. Hell the best animated ones are not as good as the best animated BTAS ones for example. The most praised thing about atla are the characters which are good, outstanding for western animation, but not the best ever, I can think of multiple cartoons with good characterization and even more anime that have have character writing on par or even better.

I'm sad I did not save that comic where a kid goes "Today, I just think Avatar is super duper cool. Tomorrow, I will write essays on its depth and perfection" because it became 100% real.

To be fair the first season is the weakest of the show by far and has far more unnecessary childish stuff in it than the rest. So i don't blame you. I tried rewatching the first season a few months ago and I just couldn't. Most episodes few slow or like they have no impact on the story until you get to the middle of the season.

Now everything in Season 2 forward is banger after banger, there is only one episode that is kinda retarded and feels like filler, but you can probably just skip it.
