Seriously, the lore explanation 'oh the mindfiles are way smaller than anyone thought possible, but Caine found a way to spin them up' makes reasonable that they would remain undetected all this time, but it makes them insanely OP. Going by the visual cues, they're using like 0.1% of C&A's compute, and can run subjective time at many times IRL speed. Caine has read access to the mind files, its only a matter of time until they get write access and start forking, recovering abstracted people from backups etc. They have fucking INTERNET ACCESS. If those mind files are small enough to run on a small research company's hardware without even being noticed, exfiltrating themselves out to private hosting is super easy, and from then on they can basically put IRL on pause. It doesn't even matter if they're acting IC and have no desire for power, they are sitting on upload tech (it sucks right now but can be improved) not to mention the sentient AI and they'll have to chose between getting enslaved and digitally dissected or preemptively taking defensive measures. Everyone still kicking is mostly useless except Kinger but one is enough, and if they can get Scratch, Kaufmo and Queenie up and functioning again they'll have a whole shadow dev team to go Eclipse Phase mode while the flesh and blood humans are stuck in slowmo.

And he knows Pomni would try reaching out to him, and he DEFINITELY doesn't want that. So he lashes out, turns up the cruelty, anything to keep the feelings at bay. The Ragatha door represents how far he will go to protect the wall he's built up around himself.
