How is anyone finding the strength to make comics in this current age? Audiences no longer give a shit about stories, they just want to whine about whether it fits their politics and then start doxxing you once they got bored of their new toy. There's also no way to market your shit or even just make people realize you made something, without getting entangled in algorithm bullshit that automatically paints a target on your back.
Not trying to be a downer on everyone else, genuinely asking for advice on finding motivation.

It's sometimes extremely crushing to work very hard and long on a comic page or a piece of art to just get ignored or overlooked by others. I've found that getting myself out of hair-tearing frustration from lack of attention is to really enjoy making my stuff, or take a break but work on something else that is creative (painting, drawing things that aren't comic related, etc.).
Falling in love with the process of making your art and your comic is so important because it often drives oneself to improve or be curious. The ability to create is a blessed skill that should be cultivated and grown, as an investment into yourself. It's your time and you should use it to make something you enjoy!

Is there a market for prison-themed webcomics? I don't feel like I've seen many around. If you know of any, I'd definitely like to take a look. I'm currently interested in creating a sort of 'fantasy world character winds up in a real world prison' story for a future comic. I would do it even if there is not much appeal for that, but I'm still curious!

Tighten up the spaced between the panels. Then the tighten the empty space around the outer edge of the entire comic page. Way too much negative space is drawing the eye away. Also, for your final panel, just do a long shot of the drink being thrown. Extend the panel all the way to the right, and draw the other character throwing the cup or having already thrown it.

May I ask for help on a conundrum I have?
I'm in the process of setting things up for a piece of writing I want to make, and my ass had the bright idea to make the main character the reincarnation of an ancient goddess, unbeknownst to myself that said creative decision is a common cliché. This is bugging me a fair bit, specially being compared to other pieces of media; removing this element from the canon would be the easiest solution, but I want to try and work around it, so I ask: Can somebody give me a list of things to avoid or derivate from if I'm using the "god reincarnation" trope?
Goes without saying that I'm being cautious of not making this MC a Mary Sue; I want to have a proper balance between traits and not undermine her struggles and achievements... I'm just lacking guidance on things that could lead me towards a pitfall or two.

I don't have many places I can ask this to, so I apologize if this is not the best place to do so.

Aside from self-insert fanfiction by middle schoolers and trashy urban fantasy, it's only actually popular in power fantasy manhwa and manga. Where the "fun" is either in the overpowered protagonist or the protagonist starting weak and quickly growing in power to his ceiling of being a literal god again.

Aside from these cases, I don't recall it ever being in anything actually good. And probably for good reason. I don't think this setup is feasible unless you're going for power fantasy or building some sort of mythological lore-based universe that we learn about alongside the (formerly) powerful but amnesiac or long-absent deity.

Also if it's something "easy to remove", why did you even need to have it in?

There are some hickups with pacing but I try to cut off as much filler as I can and blend multiple sequences that go on for too long into single pages, wich results in this. It doesn't help being an ESL with ADHD, but I promise that most pages don't look this crowded.

There's 27 other pages (some of the later ones flatly colored) already done and out in deviantart, you can look them up. The name is "Enforcement is Recquired". (Story is in development but is expect to wrap up at around 50-60 pages in a bi-weekly schedule of pages)

Basically, to sum it up, it's a one-shot comic of an autistic workaholic high ranking police investigator maned wolf being troubled by the prospect of not having a good case to solve after the biggest case of her career. Anxious over the deprivation of a hyper fixation to center her life around, she grows paranoid and starts harassing coworkers, she is forced to take a break because of it and tries to hang out and engage with civillian activities with one of the coworkers she harassed to try to make peace with him and adapt herself to a more calm and normie way of living because of the possibility of an early retirement when she's not needed in the police force anymore after a long career. Unexpectedly, she develops a close friendship with this coworker and the rest of the comic is the eventual outcome of this development and some of the bumps in the road before a standard conclusion with not much in drama, action, themes or subversion in the way, it's very low stakes and light hearted story that is also wholesome at points. That's basically all to it.

You shouldn't have to sum up your pages. They should sum themselves up. Write less text, use more image. A page should never have more than a hundred or so words.

Nobody is reading a whole chapter worth of pages if they're not spoonfed the basics of what to even expect from start. People are allergic to reading and too lazy to put in the effort to mine out new gems in the mountains of slop that pollute the internet, so If they find something that immediately puts them off or leads them to expect the opposite of what they're actually getting, they'll put it away immediately and move on to the next shiny object like spoiled little doomschrollers that think they deserve only the best piece of media ever made to catter only to their extremelly niche and autistically specific tastes, the only exception they ever make in their lives is for FOTM slop like digital circus because they don't want to feel left out because being cattle is all that matters to them in the end. Thats far from uncommon. Many people had similar happen. I've had similar happen, my most popular stuff were quick pixelated shit done on the fly instead of my more thought out jokes and more effort drawings.
Hell industry giants have had that sort of thing happen. The Simpsons was some shit Groening made up simply because he didnt want to give up the rights to Life in Hell, the creation he actually really cared about. And now who knows Life in Hell? Fuck all people, but Simpsons is known world wide.

Point being suck it cupcake, learn from it and decide whether you care more about that work or popularity.
Pivot if the latter, keep on as usual if the former.

It's a good idea to try to not get too emotionally attached to what you make and just have a bit of dumb fun with the process. It's best to try to put yourself in the shoes of the average user of the platform you post stuff to and guess what is it that interests them or what they're looking for in certain circles and contribute to the pool of content that's already popular with them. But making disposable art just for clout when you're capable of so much more is no way to be an artist, even if you make a billion dollars from it. I'd rather have no remarkable achievements or succesful works in my lifetime than be the author of an one hit wonder that's the antithesis to everything I value in art. Art should be for the artist FIRSTand FOREMOST, but this is just my opinion.

Been thinking of a better name for my comic. each chapter revolves around a different character. The setting is in the Appalachian mountains. The characters are all high schoolers. The general vibe is a bit of spooky mystery and some slice of life.

What I mean to say was "you should communicate with brevity, because the more words you use, the less impact each one has, especially in the context of a comic project where it's as much if not more about the visual parts of the art than it is about the linguistic ones." Using a lot of words belies either an inability to communicate through images, or an inability to write well. Neither of those are necessarily true, but it's what it communicates that matters.

Finished the fifth issue of my webcomic yesterday. I'm having fun a lot of fun making these BUT i'm wondering how does one gain even a small audience. I'm publishing on newgrounds, comicfury and xitter but all of my comics have maybe 100 views tops. Should I just keep going and pay no heed to the viewer count?
