That's it?
This is the biggest indie cartoon of all time and it couldn't even hit 1/3 of what a live action indie horror could pull?
I was at least expecting $50 million worldwide opening weekend.

>the return of an extremely popular series of movies straight from Hollywood did better than the limited release cartoon movie for niche nerds
No fucking kidding.
I swear nobody on this site knows how to think of the wider world. They think everyone and everything that exists on an equal level of popularity just because they see a fandom or are in one. No, of course this “movie” isn’t going to make more money than Scary Movie 6. That’s a movie for normies and the mainstream. People who actually go on dates to a movie theater. Frankly this making anything more than 10 million is astonishing. It’s a niche film. Just because you get butthurt by the fandom online or get into a fit of autistic rage seeing a funko pop at Target doesn’t mean this is the next Star Wars.

>>
>>154117814
Kinda. This was a release specifically for a fandom. For people obsessed with a cartoon. Dedicated enough to pay money to sit in a crowded theater and buy tickets months in advance.

Scary Movie is for people who need something to do on Friday, it’s not something they’re going to be overly attached to or wearing cosplay to see. It’s a summer throwaway release, a movie made to have fun with.

Even the most mindnumbing seasonal isekai garbage is more aesthetically pleasing, better animated and better written than any of these troon therapy sessions masquerading as cartoons, and you don't have to buy a ticket to watch them. And this isn't even a defense of isekai, it's an indictment of western animation for being unable to clear such a low bar.

From watching Circus Shit, knowing that a ghoul made it. In fact, Circus Shit itself should be banned and Cooper Goodwin should have his channel removed.

Most peopel don't just walk in to check, they get a whim to go to the movies and check on their phones what's showing at the local theater at what times, order their tickets and then show up.
Same general principle though, if you weren't already planning on seeing TADC seeing its poster on a website isn't going to hook you.

Back in 1993, Batman Mask of the Phantasm, a movie that was only meant to be direct to video with a direct to video budget, was considered good enough to get a theatrical release and it only made the equivalent of 13 million in today's money. Yeah, TADC did great.

>>
>>154117774
NTA, but I’m more so surprised that that many people still watch Scary Movie. They were pretty stupid from the very first one.
>>
>>154125930
Early millennium sex and parody comedy was the slop of its time and especially before free porn was everywhere on the internet people saw those movies for the titties. We’re coming up on the 30 year point for late 90s-pre 9/11 so that stuff if coming back into style because of nostalgia.
I think they’re alright, but they’re the type of movies you throw on during a smoke sesh or small house party or something. You laugh at some of the jokes but don’t follow it as closely as you’re following the conversation in the room.
>>
>>154125929
I wish we could see data for how many people got refunds after the leak just to see how much damage that did.
>>
>>154125994
Why do people think the 90s internet were some sort of dark ages? There was tons of free porn. Porn arguably made the internet and pushed the tech. Shoutout to those who remember real media player.
>>
>>154126008
Doesn't really matter considering the number of pre-orders were absurd to begin with. Limited runs like this normally get less than half the number showings in total than what the last episode got for the opening weekend alone

I mean you have to remember these shows have massive teams of people working on them. Look at the end credits of the movie. You have VA’s for every single dub, the animators, the storyboard artists, the people who make the merch, editors, the actors who played the characters. Everything down to the guy driving the bus at the end.
When you consider all that 26 mil probably isn’t the win you think it is.

The money this slop made was entirely predictable from all the hype, build up, overexposure and astro turfing it gets on the internet alone. But it's telling that it made nearly all of it on the release date only and didn't make more on the weekend, meaning that it failed to attract new fans and probably disappointed half of the crowd that went to see it, since nobody came back for a rewatch and there was no word of mouth to bring in the more casual and more skeptical fans. The level of brand irrelevancy is so bad that it basically bombed overseas, because herd mentality is the only thing keeping glitch productions afloat. This is the best that indie animation could pull yet it got completely overshadowed by two indie horror movies and it doesn't even have the excuse of being made "for the fans" when demon slayer, chainsaw man, the mario and fnaf movies all managed to break the 9 figures and break the curse of audience expectations while not being normie-friendly properties or even particularly good movies.

What all of those money makers have in common that TADC doesn't is that they all are made to look the very best that they possibly could for a wide audience or a specific demographic in mind, a specialty of the industry that Glitch cannot win against because they cannot afford to and proved they could overcome with enough artistic merit alone, thus doomed to never replace the established "industry".

Indie animation lost.
