Eastman by himself sucked so bad. That miniseries with Casey and Raph was something that should never have happened.
>>153968726
Huh? She was raised by five ninjas and a street brawler. What did you expect her to do, be a teacher?
>>153968790
>>153968835
>>153968953
Did you not read volume one? We already knew there were heroes. This is just continuing that story.

>>153968983
I didn't, actually. Eastman seemed like the crazy one having Casey and Raph get involved with a gang mellowdrama and using guns.
>>153970057
>>153974343
It is a time skip, but it is one that feels organic given how long ago the last volume was.
>>153973733
This was followed by a call back to issue #1 of the original series. It felt like Laird was saying, "we're doing something new, but the TMNT you loved is finally back." Like hugging a cousin you haven't seen since they were a teenager now as an adult.
>>153973818
It makes sense. They want to show that they are benevolent. I still don't trust them, however.
>>
>>153973790
It's pretty cool, actually. Even though I didn't grow up with them, I feel like I've aged with them.
>>153973995
Utrom are not to be trusted, and we need a cool fight scene.
>>153974159
Not in the slightest, unless you loved the crap Eastman was pooping out.
>>153974563
I think it's cool. It makes the city feel more lived in and has me wondering what other secrets it hides.
>>153975065
I will say, as much as I hate Eastman on his own, it does feel lacking in the grit department now. I'm wondering how I'd feel about it had Image did not completely crapped the bed.

>>
>>153989954
I think Splinter should have died at the end of volume one, frankly. I rewatched the first film recently, and it kept hinting at him dying, and they never did it. I5 wasn't that Laird wasn't doing anything with him, either. Splinter was in his old man phase, retired and living on a farm. Having said that...
>>153990190
Stockman totally deserved it.
>>153990551
>>153990798
I'm kind of confused about the purpose of Jay to begin with. It felt like there was build-up here, but then he just found out. Only Shadow isn't there, and then Splinter is killed off. I'm going to wait to see where things go, but it is confusing nonetheless.

The inclusions of Savage Dragon characters was easily one of the worst parts of the series and I hated that bitch. The pacing was terrible, too. Nothing had time to develop and breathe.

>>154010406
Having them be separate is cool, especially since, unlike Image, what is happening to them is actually interesting and not just edge slop or Savage Dragon crap. I really don't need them to all come together because this volume is about the Turtles being able to live in the outside world and independently.
>>
THREAD 23

>>154018332
This whole arc is what Horridus should have been instead of what felt like a Mikey dating a child. I'm finding a lot of what Laird is doing in this is similar to Image, but done correctly.

What the heck? This issue was good, and we even got an Evil Dead reference.

I'm realizing that you all just hate fun.
>>154022222
There's been plenty of excitement and action. It's just not grim and edgy.
>>154022309
I feel like /co/ isreally against TMNT being anything more than Eastman's vision of a gritty and grounded action movie. There's a place for that, but Laird isn't writing it, and you all are seething for it.
>>
>>154031874
Nah. Raph got to have an arc, and we didn't get edgy action for the sake of edgy action. The fight with Leatherhead was cool.

This was hands down one of the best issues of TMNT ever.
>>154035032
>>154035200
>>154047604
I'm really not seeing the issue here. It was a well told story that used existing lore, explained a long hanging plot thread, added to the character, and gave April an origin. The way you all were anti-hyping this issue up made it sound like it was some Trouble level disaster, but I found it to be incredibly moving and well made. This is one of the best and most craziest developments I've read in a comic in my life. The run has peaked. I have no idea how Laird is going to top this. Granted, I thought the same thing with the Leonardo micro-series issue and it got topped twice. This brought TMNT into my top five favorite comics of all time.

That's all I've gotten to so far, but hopefully that will drive some discussion to keep the threads alive
>>
Thanks OP. Be sure to know I am reading this thread when I'm free from work and other duties. I wonder of all Tales of TMNT are canon?
>>
Karai's portrayal in Vol. 4 is so strange to me. She once again refers to the turtles as her old enemies, but they've really only ever been allies. I guess something interesting could have happened in the lost year between Vol. 3 and Vol. 4, but really the main thing we know is that Donatello helped construct her combat simulator. Seems awfully neighborly for an "enemy".

Anyway, between inviting Shadow into the Foot and eventually stealing Casey's seed without his consent, Karai was up to some crazy shit in Vol. 4

Very arguable. Like I said, it may have been a cute horror short story unrelated to the TMNT. It has a King in Yellow feel, but doesn't do anything for the turtles except add nonsense and cockroach sex.

>explained a long hanging plot thread
What plot thread? Kirby's crystal? It didn't explain anything about it. It's just as unknown as it was before. April's infertility? Wasn't an issue until recently and honestly "the nanobots did it" would have been a better explanation.

>added to the character, and gave April an origin
Pointless, she already had both. "Baxter Stockmans ex-employee" is plenty origin.

>it sound like it was some Trouble level disaster
Not the same level, but still a disaster. Pretty much a thinly-veiled reason to write April out of the story. Again, nanobot induced infertility could have achieved the same goal.

Laird should have been slapped upside down the head for this one. Seriously, how can one decry Image era as dumb, edgy and cringe and then praise magic drawing April?
>>

It's entirely possible for you to like something and the criticism of that thing to be valid at the same time. And it's okay.
Also, shitting on other things does not invalidate the criticism either. Most of what you wrote in defense of v4 was tu quoque at best. You can rail against Image all you like (and most of the folks criticizing v4 have also called it stupid and shitty) and it can be true, and yet that still doesn't make v4 any better.

Like, how do you defend awful writing decisions like resolving a potentially exciting and interesting plot setup like "Oh no, Raphael's turned into a berserk monster! What are the turtles going to do to save their brother?" with a nothingburger resolution of "Oh, nevermind, he's okay now" ?
>>
>>154130164
>They drove it home.
And promptly forgot about it. They didn't turn it into a turtle van, there was no follow-up to the heist story, the dead robbers didn't haunt their lair. They don't even drive it around. The van just stopped being a thing.
>>
>>154130164
Regenta isn't any better written than Horridus. Arguably it's worse, because v4 Mikey is in his 30s and really should have known better. With Horridus they're both teenagers and act appropriately. And the relationship is less abrupt, they actually go on several dates instead of a swim and a fuck. Not to mention in Image th3 chaperones are actually doing their work instead of ceasing to exist for a few issues so the plot can happen.
>>
>>154127452
>I'm not attracted to drawings, anon.
Yet you went out of your way to shit on Horridus to defend Regenta against criticism that, as far as I can see, nobody in the storytime ever actually made before >>154132421 posted just now, which just makes you look really hypersensitive about her character. So I'm not sure I buy it.
>>
>>154131646
If Laird wrote the Bat!Splinter storyline, Splinter would fly off, eat a cow, meditate for an hour and come back in rat form within two issues, without any of the turtles being involved.
>>
>>154133565
Worse, he'd come back like "Hey, I'm a bat now, so I can fly! Isn't that cool? I bet we could have some interesting adventures around that! But we won't."

He wasn't just okay. He had a massive fight and returned home where he had hallucinations of Splinter. That is why he calmed down. If you don't like it, that's one thing, but to say nothing happened is completely false.
>>154132135
Why do we need to see them use it every single time? If they've gone somewhere, we know they've used it. Do you complain every time Spider-Man just arrives somewhere else that we didn't see him swing there?
>>154132421
You have to be 18 or older to post here. Or worse, you've never experienced a real love because Regenta was written like an actual relationship.

Because Horridus is a poorly written character that behaves like a child. I complained about the writing, anon.

NTA, but where in volume 3 is that stated?
>>
>>154139499
It wasn't. Savage Dragon readers are seething because I'm upset that this shitty TMNT run didn't inform the readers on the lore they were using.
>>
>>154137459
>He had a massive fight and returned home where he had hallucinations of Splinter
He injured Raptarr, who conveniently recovered off-screen before he was needed again, and fought with Leatherhead, who hasn't appeared in vol4 before or since. Like the turtles aknowledge that Leatherhead was probably badly beaten up, but no thought is spent on actually checking up on him. So what was the point of that aside from key changle?

>Do you complain every time Spider-Man just arrives somewhere else that we didn't see him swing there?
Confirmed for never having read a Spider-Man comic. He's very often shown either arriving or leaving a scene by swinging, people watching him swing or him having an internal monologue while swinging. And there's literally just one page of him making the web-shooters. How much time is spent on setting up the armored van in TMNT? And yet we're shown them either walking, using the sewers, rooftop jumping, getting lifts by Utrom or even taking a fucking bus rather than do anything with the armored van. For all we know it just broke down again and was towed away.

>You have to be 18 or older to post here.
Right back at ya, I was an adult when v4 was coming out. You sound like someone who liked modern Star Wars. Because a lot of what you write sounds like "why do people care who Snoke was, he's dead!"

>Because Horridus is a poorly written character that behaves like a child. I complained about the writing, anon.
I'd say she's written adequately, you just don't like that she's from Savage Dragon. Which is fair, the Image era shouldn't have shoved the turtles into the Savage Dragon universe, previous crossovers could have been treated as non-canon. But at the same time Renet and Savanti Romero were introduced in a crossover with Cerebus and the two became important TMNT characters. Your favourite story couldn't have happened without the Cerebus crossover, so I'd ease my sphincter on crossovers if I were you.

It was fun. You do remember fun, yes?
>He's very often shown either arriving or leaving a scene by swinging, people watching him swing or him having an internal monologue while swinging.
I've read every Spider-Man comic ever made, which is why I know that he is often shown, but not always shown. I can only assume in those cases that you complain?
>You sound like someone who liked modern Star Wars.
Only The Last Jedi.
>abandons r2-d2
>either never looked for or gave up trying to find his father's lightsaber
>ran away while the galaxy was taken over
>hides while his nephew turned evil
I don't envy Rian for needing to fix Luke after JJ came in trying to destroy everything, but he managed to make him the god tier Jedi we always imagined him to be while moving Rey and Ben into a much better position. Of course, JJ just had to come back to destroy Star Wars once and for all.
>horridus
Again, I've never read Savage Dragon. I had no idea she was supposed to be developmentally disabled. A lot of the interactions make more sense now, but that's never mentioned in the comic. My issue is not crossovers, and I have no idea why you think that. My issue is poor writing. If you're introducing characters from another franchise, you have to explain them, justify why they are there, and use them. She is there to act like a child and be Mikey's cocksleeve. It's gross.

Hated it since the day I saw it.
But it explains how you don't understand basic plot structure and like random things because they're "fun" even tough they either don't add to the plot or directly harm it.

>>154142249
>you like a film therefore you can't understand that there are things wrong with it and see it as a perfect movie
What lol
>>
>>154142315
I mean, you seem to not aknowledge any plot issues with v4 or dismiss them with head-cannon (like the van*), your main issue with v3 is "it's cringe/I don't read Savage Dragon" and main defense for v4 is "it's fun/it's new lore".
And then you shit on TFA (which was ass, but at least had some sort of a plot going on, even if it was lifted almost wholesale from The New Hope) and you claim that Rhian "Subvert Your Expectations" Johnson was the one who had to *fix* Star Wars. The guy too busy being "clever" to refine a first draft of the script into something actually coherent.
I'm sorry man, but clearly you just want aliens and monsters waved in front of you and you're upset if they're, I don't know, too edgy or unfamiliar or something. You don't actually care for the story.
You'd be better off reading D&D Monster Manuals than comics.

*About the van, funny how in the Image run the turtles had a flying car, it was explained to be a Triceraton vehicle, it was used constantly, including the remote control *and* actually drew the Triceratons to Earth. Even the turtles flying and parking it a bit too carelessly led to their lair being discovered. Sorry, but "they spent a lot of time fixing a car, drove it home and we have to *assume* they're using it later" is just bad writing and cope.

I know v4 has problems, they just don't bother me, anon. Yes, plots go in and out of the book, there is a lot of fan service, April didn't need a backstory but got one, a lot of similar stuff in v3 happen in v4, and Laird himself admitted he was burned out. I'm having too much fun to care. Which was the same in v1. I didn't love every issue, but they were still fun. We had a whole issue that was nothing but a chase scene, but it was still well drawn and fun to follow.
v3 was a complete slog with characters I didn't know and the writer didn't care enough to flesh out, the changes made to the Turtles seemed to just be there for sufferporn, and everyone felt out of character. It wasn't fun to read. That's the difference.
The fact that you all are crying because I'm saying I didn't like it, while you all constantly crap on v4 is pathetic. Lord forbid someone has a different opinion than you. Especially since a lot of your complaints apply to v3 or are so out there like whining about a single line mentioning cockroach sex.
>thinking tfa didn't completely destroy star wars and that it was rian that broke it
You claim that I don't understand storytelling but think this.

>a lot of similar stuff in v3 happen in v4
You;re starting to get it
>or are so out there like whining about a single line mentioning cockroach sex
Aaand you lost it.

V3 and v4 are equally stupid BUT v3 is slightly less frustrating, because the story structure is better. How many times do you need that repeated?
Would you like v3 more if instead of the shark guy it was Leatherhead, the cyborgs were Baxter Stockman's creation and Horridus was a Styracodon?
Fuck, you're going to make me defend Cyborg Donatello: as opposed to vampire Raph it actually means something and isn't resolved with a single conversation with ghost Splinter. You may say it's misery porn, but it's a lot more compelling than the characters just going "I guess Raphael is a vampire dinosaur now". Or the almost total lack of concern over Mke being missing.

You say things like Leatherhead having one appearance is "fun" or "fanservice", but I have a better word for it: FRUSTRATING. Because I want to see Leatherhead have a role in the story. I like Leatherhead. I hate to see him treated worse than Chewbacca was in TLJ (glorified chaffuer). Leatherhead wanted to build a transmat to live with the Utroms on their planet, now the Utrom have built their own transmat right next to New York and Leatherhead isn't there? Bullshit.

It's nice that you like it, but don't pretend like what people are complaining about is nitpicking or "applies to v3 as well". V3 is at least better executed.
