All material prior to his reign is treated like a redheaded step child.
>>154137475/co/ are good lil Marvel Zombies aren't they?
>>154137475Because people who were working at Marvel during the time he was EIC, are still in charge. That's just it.
>>154140329The one honest person in /co/
>>154140329Pretty muchHe fired every even semi competent guy and gal and replaced them with his handpicked guys and sycophants. They've been running things based on his playbook and protecting his biggest fuck up for nearly 3 decades now.
The real answer is that he started around the time more modern art and writing became the norm and that’s simply more easy to market besides the classic 60s stuff.
>>154140774Thank you unpaid & overworked Marvel intern.
>>154137475which reign? he was on board in 2019 and jumped the sinking ship like a rat in 2022
>>154140900
The massive recency bias for modern marvel is truly depressing
>>154141238People are getting nostalgic for sleazy TMZ Marvel, It's weird.
>>154141275Surprisingly it's a lot less than I thought it'd be. Even people trying to persuade others that BND Spider-Man was good comics don't sound as convincing as before
>>154137475You have to have very low standards to read Marvel.
Imagine still caring about Marvel.
>>154141469Hey I knew Marvel was always an exploitation rag.
>>154141454Comic tubers push & shill 00's Marvel like it's going out of business.
>>154137475>Why is Quesada Marvel still given preferential treatment to this day?No it isn't, Marvel can't stop jacking off to the Silver Age, Frank Miller's DD, Claremont's X-Men and Jim Lee's costumes. Nobody cares about Bronze Age Avengers books and Lobell's X-Men because they were really, really bad
>>154141527I think the answer is right in your postAnd aren't people saying that Zdarsky on Avengers and Cap is basically doing something drastic like Avengers Disassembled and all that other 00s stuff?
>>154141682Maybe... Though we are still kinda stuck in a diet coke version of Quesada's days.
>>154141275What a vile era.
>>154137475The retards in charge aren't really fans of the comics.
>>154141454Another anon here, I still think BND had goos stuff going on, and even some Slott books, but no way I'm defending the quesada era in general, specially Spider-Man. You'd have good stuff made by Conway, but then you'd get shit like The Gauntlet.
The same fucking staff are still there. Of course nothing will change, and the wheels for change can't until personnel retire because they can't make it outside this niche's niche.Sunk cost fallacy, ego and refusing to see the writing on the wall that their handling of the character has been done with tennis racquet serves.
>>154142284When will the cronyism end?
>>154137475because its what a lot of us here grew up with
>>154142551Honestly? Never, so long as the industry as it operates continues. Who knows where we'll be with AI and the continuing annihilation of the floppy/hardcopy market in a few decades. The speculators are a very specific, niche and forever shrinking and aging group from a specific generation - enabling Spoffice without a need to course correct by dint of steering one of the worlds most popular Superheroes.Best we can hope is Cronyism of a new sort, if the BND coup was a self-selecting limited puddle pool of talent then the next one will probably be pissed off marriagefags holding an axe to grind. It's a generational thing, the only odd one out is Lowe by being the youngest in his forties.
>>154137475I'm surprised he wasn't given the Didio treatment. Banished, openly despised, mocked, and all of his mandates at DC gleefully changed and erased.
>>154142569Do think people will make pilgrimages just to piss on Quesada's grave?
>>154142591Because he selected a group of likeminded people, these people are still fucking there and still pretending they didn't gamble the house on a sinking status quo that was never real, and can't sustain a character in amber forever. It's the old saying, DC editorial is stupid but Marvel editorial is evil.
>>154142641>DC editorial is stupid but Marvel editorial is evil.I need this on t-shirts & bumper stickers.
>>154137475>>154141238The reason for Marvel 's recency bias is the simple fact that DC had way better writers in the 80s and 90s. And I mean it's not even close.DC had a bunch of good American writers as well as the British Invasion writing for both their mainline and their imprints.DC had top tier writers which lead to top tier runs and top tier imprints like Vertigo.Marvel had all the cool and edgy artists, but of course none of their artist driven works aged well.Meanwhile over on DC many runs from the 80s and 90s are revered to this day.
Do you think getting a new younger writer on Amazing Spider-Man and a storyline that reverse One More Day would help Marvel?
>>154143416It couldn't hurt. Fresh blood may be needed.
>>154137475Marvel was close to bankruptcy and Quesada helped turn it around in sales. A lot of the guys he brought in then are still just in their 40s and 50s. Things might start shifting now that sales are down, but it could also be a decade or more before there's a full turnover.
Guys like Joe Quesada and Mark Waid are 64 years old. It’s time for some new young blood to be in charge.
>allNo, a lot of runs that happened during the Shooter run are still revered.DeFalco started running things into the ground as EiC and Harras sucked a lot more, that's just how it is.>Nobody cares about Bronze Age Avengers books Lobell's X-Men because they were really, really badStan Lee's Avengers didn't even get any good until the Cap's Kooky Quartet era. The Thomas and Englehart Avengers runs are classic. Then you have most of Shooter's issues (not #200) and the Stern run. That's as good as classic Avengers got. It was Bob Harras who turned it into a boring book, then Busiek kept it boring in that nostalgic way. Lobdell's Uncanny and Nicieza's X-Men were pretty good whenever the books weren't getting derailed by obligatory crossovers. They weren't great classics, but they were adequate, which is all most comics can hope to be.>>154142591Quesada's editors actually liked the guy. He was a comics artist who climbed up the ranks. Didio was some asshole from animation who was only liked by Levitz and other higher-ups but hardly by anyone who worked under him.
>>154138900Disney ruining Marvel Zombies caused me to check out of the MCU. Marvel Zombies was one of the first comics I actually bothered to get all the issues of and actually enjoyed. The series is just so shitty and ignores the core dread present in the Marvel Zombies books. Also using the series to push Ms.Marvel was a mistake.
I thought his name was quesadilla for years
>>154143681Eh. I wish the Avengers comics returned to that Busiek style now.Back when being an Avenger meant something.
Is he ultimately responsible for NOT sending Miles back to his own reality MUCH sooner after Secret Wars?
>>154144790Back in the 00s Quesada said that if the Ultimate and main universes ever crossed over, then Marvel had officially run out of ideas. His individual influence on the comics diminished after he was promoted up in 2011.
>>154142649But on the Dildio era, DC editorial was stupid AND evil.>let's take the smile out of superhero comics>this character isn't fully copyrighted, let's murder and replace him
>>154144925Well he did ruin Beast Machines by telling the writers not to watch Beast Wars.
>>154144947Pretty sure he also fucked up Reboot, but I think those two cases still fall on the retarded side, rather than malicious.
>>154143416It's beyond critical, they need a full fucking transfusion. Besides Spencer they have had the same goddamn circus troupe of writers since BND. All of whom sharing the same idiot philosophy that Spider-Man is about youth, not responsibility, meaning more and more of the character is being burnt away into this simplistic manchild shell. They keep repeating that anyone can put on the mask, Peter is becoming hollow beyond the mask.
>>154146401>They keep repeating that anyone can put on the mask, Peter is becoming hollow beyond the mask. That's a dope line.
>>154146401Watching Marvel double down on "Spider-Man/Peter Parker is about youth" and push multiple spider people at the same time is like watching some guy on Youtube do a "can I reenact the Monty Python "Mr Creosote" skit for real"You know it's gonna end badly, but you want to watch from a distance
>>154142284>>154140329This.When Diddio left, already many of his and Harras's cronies already left, so Wagner choose a new EiC that didn't give a fuck to continue Diddio work.
>>154142551Hard to say. People believed David Gabriel and Dan Buckley would still be there, since they've been at Marvel since the 00s. But they got pushed out or in the process of being pushed out. But there's also the danger of a different kind of cronyism caused by the incoming replacements
>>154142602I am know I will.I never travel, but I hate that fucker like you wouldn't believe.I hope his slut daughter gets raped, too.
>>154143416The problem is editorial.Nick Spencer tried and they gave us the Paul bullshit to spite him and the fans and (seem) to have blacklisted him since I haven't heard him on anything for like over 5 years now.Nick Lowe is an acolyte of Tom Brevoort who is the guy who started the "Spider-Man is about the platonic ideal of youth (and not responsibility) bullshit in 2006 as an internal memo the OMD/BND are all still there and loyal to Quesada.Even if Brevoort (finally) dies of a heart attack or stroke, it won't change much. The whole Marvel Editorial needs to be completely deracinated.
>>154147336>deracinatedI love that word.Thank you Darth Plagueis for introducing me to that word.
>>154143725>>154138900Ive always hated marvel zombies Playing that zombies mode in rivals was cathartic, fuck zombies, id pay top dollar for a comic where uktron disintegrates them all for being rotten flesh lol
>>154147452Marvel Zombies 3 was awesome, it was Machine Man going Ash on the zombieverse.
Short of a sword of Damocles falling and finally beheading Lowe and the editors for letting DC take easy win after win, how long realistically until we have a new regime in charge? A decade? Two?Lowe is the youngest in his forties, the rest are overweight bow-legged gen x'ers who have been out of ideas for decades, surely they must retire soon? One does wonder how things will go when and not if Midnight fails to make a dent on DC's Absolute line torching them.
>>154146768>Peter story is about youthTHEN WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT OF THE BAKERS DOZEN SPIDERS YOUNGER THAN HIM?
>>154147876Anyone can be Spider-Man, chuddie. It's not just a toy for toxic cishet white boys anymore.
Ground zero for White replacement? Hurm...
>>154147842Even leaving aside the problems with the Spider-Man books there's problems going on with Marvel that aren't really addressed, so I imagine there's going to be changes within the decade, especially since they're replacing Buckley with a guy from Marvel Studios and a guy who worked in Disney music. Now whether that's a good or bad change, I'm not sure
>>154147876This is all post-Brevoort Spider-Mismanagement. He kept Peter young, he didn't have a bunch of other spider-people running around. Lowe's the one who messed things up by deciding Peter's now a 28 year old loser and approving the "Web Warriors" or whatever they're all calling themselves now.
>>154148361I love these guys. They’re the only reason I read Spider content these days.
>>154148504Dan please.
>>154148361Brevoort still hangs around and if he wanted to, he would get Lowe to follow his lead anyway. They are all apathetic losers.
>>154143236>The reason for Marvel 's recency bias is the simple fact that DC had way better writers in the 80s and 90s. And I mean it's not even close.Busiek was the goat Avengers
>>154149323Dude don't bother, that poster was just talking out of his ass.
>>154148246>Mephisto hands typed this postYou know that you were made irrelevant in Slott's BND right? No more spider larpers.
>>154150746Someone please please please rip Mephisto away from Spider Office, these hacks can't be trusted to keep such a Diabolus ex Machina on hand to get them out of their bullshit. We're so far removed from Ghost Rider consequences.
>>154150746>No more spider larpers.>there's probably more spiders now than around BND>there's so much of them now half of them are in editorial limbo unless there's a Spider-Verse 67 happening
>>154151025Maybe Morlun really was right.
>>154151062I miss the Inheritorswhere are my not-victorian vampire waifus
>>154137475Because it "saved" the company even though when you actually look at the totality of everything it was Jemas and things fell off the second he left and Quesada was the sole guy in charge and was able to do all the retarded shit that ruined the comapny. Jemas had ideas and wanted to expand the audience and reach outside of the core nerds but did that mostly by pushing for different styles and types of books. It didn't always work and some times the books could suck but there was still genuine experimentation and energy in that 2000-2004 period. When Jemas got pushed out, the comics killed a lot of that and went back to being more impenetrable while also introducing a lot of stupid shit: crossover event revivals, Quesada's Three Genies, the constant new #1s and all that. It says a lot how bad things have been for like 15 years that this is still preferable to what we've had under Alonso and Yoshida.
>>154140900Quesada hadn't done shit at Marvel since he got "promoted" in 2011. 2011 to 2022 Quesada was basically the role Stan adoped after moving to California in the 1970s where he was more just a public face and PR guy than anything except not even all that much because Quesada doesn't have even a fraction of the likabiliy and charisma tha Stan did so he wasn't trotted out nearly as much.
>>154137475He reminds people of quesadillas.
I heard he got the name Quesadilla because of dickcheese, confirm or deny?
>>154144947That was policy for S1 Beast Wars too.
>>154151198>Quesada hadn't done shit at Marvel since he got "promoted" in 2011.Not at Marvel's comics division but he did have a major hand in that Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon
the smoking ban was dumb. Especially with how much more violent the comics were. You can have sentry rip a dude in half but don't show a cigarette
>>154148504Hot spider chicks. I love it!!
>>154137475Quesada did more damage than good stuff, screw marvel knights.
>>154150917seriously why is every spiderman need to have a deal with mephisto>Peter did it>Ben did it>Miles did it>Otto did itand if you wanna count him>Norman did itThe only one that hasnt done a deal with Mephisto is Kaine.
>>154160175Probably an injoke, faggots over there think it's funny to meme on that.
>>154156781Smoking is "imitable" behavior, ripping a person in half isn't.
>>154160175https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg-qaeIcuyI
>>154160175>>154160278Looking at the editorial credits Lowe is the one overseeing the Ben, Otto, and Norman ones and Brevoort was the one overseeing the Miles one
>>154160319>ripping a person in half isn'tYou don't know that.
good artist
>>154160175To make selling your soul to marvel brand satan a cool hip thing that all the spider-people are doing so the one horrifying morally unjustifiable IP killing decision seem not as bad or share in the bad decision. To be a spider-person you have to sell your soul to satan. If it was a...I don't know...way to talk about selling your soul for power/fame etc and they show them having horrifying consequences then yeah they could have a point. But they don't. They just say LOL ITS COOL AND EDGY GUYS LOL and that's it. It's fucking terrible.
>>154162159The only two films of his that you need to see are Citizen Kane and Transformers. And the Frozen Peas rant.
