Does anyone remember this era of PBS Kids and does it surprise anyone that there were actually very few cartoons that aired on PBS in this era?

I do. I lived through it. They were known as the P-Pals. I recently re-watched some the old bumps because I was feeling nostalgia. I had no idea there was a even a lore of these little guys. They even made little mini-episodes of the P-Pals alongside with the bumps. PBS Kids of the 90s was truly something else.

Me. I’m 47.
PBS to me is Sesame Street, Mister Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, 3-2-1 Contact, The Electric Company, and Reading Rainbow

37, I remember all these shows except the last two. Wishbone is my favorite of them. I only had basic cable growing up

It’s not surprising, animation is expensive so being publically broadcast television they had to go with what was in their budget.
It’s only after they were funded with USAID(S) to promote gay race communism did they have animation money.

No love for Square One TV and Mathnet? For shame.

I wanna make sure I'm not crazy:
In my area they used to play bumpers between shows on PBS Kids and it was just video collages of kids playing. There were two different versions; one with Bette Midler's 'Friends' playing and the other with Dionne Warwick's 'That's What Friends Are For'.
Did ANYONE else remember seeing them? Because I've tried to look them up and I cannot find jack shit on it. I'm starting to wonder if it's either a different network entirely or I just made it up somehow.

For a time, the only cartoon on PBS if i'm not mistaken was The Magic School Bus.

>Does anyone remember this era of PBS Kids
Before my time, but it's an audio stim for me.
>This is P-B-SSSSSS
>Woohoo
When I first looked it up, I was surprised they bothered to give it a name. P-Pals. I don't know if the dog counts as a P-Pal.
Anyways, do you think there's gijinka of that logo? Do you think it's porn? One of them is white and another black, as was the style in the 90s I think, but what is the third one?

40. just the right age for the most kino PBS kids show ever:

I distinctly recall Ghostwriter coming on right after and...turning the channel ASAP, fuck that shit.

My memory once told me that Widget the World Watcher was a "PBS cartoon" but no it absolutely was not...have been the local FOX station for year or so. Otherwise plenty of preschool memories of plenty of Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow.
