We know the normal genes are still there, cause they'll reassert themselves if you have kids outside the dammakhert.Duane's mentioned teaching a kid who had mutated to have a "smells like vinegar" aspect, but that could easily just be a Soud. I can't recall if Cope has revealed much about the other tacit cast families, and my recollection is that it was never supposed to be as much of a thing as the readers have made it. But it might mean something that the only ones we've seen in story are Soud, who aren't touched by the dammakhert at all except by negation.
