I thought they were kinda cool. And they got away with shit you couldn't do with U.S. cartoons at the time (Brits had more balls). And while they inspired Team America World Police and some obscure MTV parody show back in the '90s, in Japan they inspired Gundam, Star Fox, and Evangelion.

Seeing thunderbird 2, in Nadie secret of blue water was such a trip, which ironically is exactly what it was in the story too.

I haven't watch much of it, but what I've seen is pretty fun. A little slow paced but in a good way.

I still can't figure out why Thunderbirds never got picked up by American networks despite being deliberately built to appeal to them.

The music from that episode with the nuke in the car still haunts me to this day
Hell most of the music does, those end credit sequences were morbid

I don't mind that much, the show is very episodic so I don't mind it not getting a resolution in that sense.

At least make a comic with the blessing with Anderson estate where the Stingray find a way to break that stupid curse affecting Marina and her people.

There's a CGI Captain Scarlet reboot made in 2004 that is pretty alright in terms of writing and choreography, though the more realistic art style does not hold up with the model quality of the time. Anderson was directly involved in production and probably pushed for the CGI use in the first place because he always aimed to be at the forefront of technology. He only used puppets because it was cheaper to make props at 1/10 scale than to deal with full-size sets for human actors.

I watched Captain Scarlet for the first time via Tubi and Jesus fucking christ is a it dark!

It's impressive how well Gerry and his crew were able to do what they did with such limited tech back in the day. And the model ships and such still look great

Personally my favorite show of his is Space Precinct 2040, purely due to how utterly bonkers it is

>>
>>154168665
An entire Sentai series, Go-Go-5, was built to be their answer to Thunderbirds. Five siblings under the command of their father pilot specialist high-tech vehicles on rescue operations, taking full advantage of high-quality miniature effects.
Oh and also they fight actual demons along the way, because it's a Sentai series and they gotta punch something.
This series would be adapted in the west as Power Ranges: Lightspeed Rescue, which I honestly think is one of their higher-effort affairs.

>>
>>154167270
Nah the pacing is even worse then thunderbirds. It feels salvageable too but the editing really sucks. Scenes go on for too long and nothing happens for whole episodes. Its just really bad.
>>
How come Captain Scarlet isn't as known/rememberd as Thunderbirds?
>>
>>154171435
Probably because Captain Scarlet wasn't as focused on cool machinery like Thunderbirds was; the Thunderbirds vehicles are inherently toyetic and broadly appealing, whereas human action figures by themselves are a harder sell for a smaller audience. It's ultimately the merch that dictates staying power for longer.

No, he's 100% right, the Super Robot and toku traditions which eventually led to the vague idea of a "real robot" have a direct and traceable lineage to Anderson's work. As others have also said ITT Japanese loved (and arguably still love) Anderson's stuff and you can see its touch literally everywhere in relevant toku or mecha media.

It's giving kids a choice of:
>a). Captain Scarlet's SPV (personnel carrier) with missile you're definitely gonna lose under the sofa or between the floorboards, or
>b). Thunderbird 2 (cool jet) with swappable hangar modules containing Thunderbird 4, The Mole and Firefly mini toys.
I know which one I'd rather have had as a kid, even though I thought Captain Scarlet was a way cooler premise.

Praise for what they feel is absolute original idea, seated in a hate towards their place of origin. Tl;dr, they and some boomers and millennials too think Japan really is this paradise that anime mirrors somehow.
It would be nice if we could go back to these aesthetics, but they were a product of their time. Still, fuck the modern used future, over greebel look.
