Given how desperate they are for some easy wins lately what with them getting their arse kicked in sales and the success of the Nic Cage series how long till they try to milk the Marvel Noir idea again?
>>154166322They just recently had a Spider-Man Noir mini written by Erik Larsen
>>154166349I give it 2 months before Fantastic Four and X Men Noir.
>>154166422They already did X-Men Noir though
>>154166322The moment Midnight fails you just know they’ll do a whole specialized line for synergy
>>154166504They already did Spider-Man noir too. No reason to believe they won't try to do more of it.Dr. Strange Noir might be interesting. Lean into Lovecraft probably though I guess you could try a pulpy sword & sorcery angle?Dr. Doom Noir could be cool too.
>>154167314>Dr. Strange Noir might be interestingOh god please no I mean yes I need my fanfic to be the only canon
>>154167314Yeah I guess you’re right. Only hiccup I can think of is do we go with the version where they’re troubled youths or do we give them powers?
>>154166322Noir/Peni Comicunironically they NEED to give some of the more fleshed out alt universe spiders more time to interact with each other that doesn't include main universe spiders.
>>154167932I’d like Noir and Miguel (not just cause of Shattered Dimensions) but I like the imagery of a Spider-Man from the past teaming up with a Spider-Man from the future
>>154167314>Dr. Strange Noir being LovecraftianThat’s a thought I had too; that you could tie the Noir characters into a specific genre from the era>Spider-Man and Punisher: Crime and mystery>Iron Man: Adventure>Doctor Strange: Lovecraftian horror>>154167575>Dr. Strange Noir fanficI’d love to hear about that more. I had an idea for Peter and him to team up (with a joke about the shared hand symbol they use)
>>154166504what? that doesn't fit their oeuvre at all. They're an extremely 'it is the 60s, we had ww2 15 years ago' concept.>>154167314>>154167575Now see that works. In fact, if anything, it works BETTER set back then. Victorian Dr. Strange would be even better, and medieval better still.
>>154168021It would also be fun seeing a 100% Magical Spider-man with a 100% technological Spider-Man
>>154168473oh wow I looked it up, so it's not even X-men at all. It's literally just names slapped onto generic characters in a shitty noir story.
>>154168506Also they share the fact that their suits are made from regular clothes. Noir Peter made his suit from Ben’s fighter pilot uniform and Miguel’s is a Day of the Dead suit all he added was the cape
>>154168201>(with a joke about the shared hand symbol they use)Go read Spider-Man: Fever, it’s got all that and more>I’d love to hear about that more. I had an idea for Peter and him to team upSo, I actually had one too, and it was going to be an introduction to Strange in NoirIt’s a murder mystery revolving around a flaming body that just won’t stop burning and it involves a lot of clashing between Strange and Spideybut I’m seriously planning on fleshing it out into an actual fan comic so I’ll stop myself thereIn terms of Strange specifically, his Noir version is basically an exaggerated version of his existing utilitarian tendencies. 616 Strange already has a lot of sacrifice for the greater good, but 90214 Strange takes that further to the point of the ends justifying the means. He doesn’t particularly like using nastier means, but he can and will if he has to. He’s an actual necromancer in this reality, embroiled in a greater plot that involves a lot of extradimensional subterfuge and certain Barons collaborating with certain reichs, still subservient to the Ancient One but equally determined to protect the world. He’s so determined, in fact, that he’s willing to take on a secret identity as his old asshole surgeon self just to keep his fingers on the pulse of occult New York City (which, during the Great Depression, is mostly concentrated in the very wealthy elite). Wong is his “bodyguard.” Clea also plays a role, but it’s hard to elaborate on outside of her introductory story.
>>154168637Strange’s solo adventures would be a slightly convoluted blend of horror, actual Noir, and maybe some sword and sorcery. Strange would need to defend the world from powerful hobbyists tampering with forces they do not understand, greater organizations trying to summon the occult to do their bidding, global cults meant to bring about new ages as willed by the Old Gods, that sort of stuff. Somewhat more grounded than 616, still relatively trippy and very large-scale. I would love to go full extra-dimensional high-concept weirdness, but that’s what I have 616 Strange for and that guy already has loads of my own stories for him. I wanted to make 90214 Strange still distinct while fitting with the tradition of defending an unknowing world from unspeakable, incomprehensible evils. I have written a shitload on this and will almost certainly be making it into an actual comic sometime within the next year or two. I really need to brush up on my art skills (or get enough money for a decent artist) and give my outline a proper script. Won’t say more because when that fan comic’s finished I’m going to be posting it here.
>>154168637>Spider-Man FeverYep that’s where I got the idea haha but I will give it are readYou’ve got a killer idea and have put a lot of thought into it. I’m into the idea that he has a secret identity to be clued into the goings on of the rich and powerful (cause of course it’s them who are fucking with demons). You don’t have to explain because I want to read it for myself, but I do wonder if Peter and Strange will come to blows. Like Strange has to do something fucked up and Peter tries to stop him due to his own moral code
>>154168685Dude I am fucking digging this! It feels very much like a pulp Lovecraft story. I will be waiting patiently, but excitedly, for thisMy story would take inspiration from the JMS run with the main villain being a cult devoted to Shathra that are trying to summon her. I’m thinking Peter somehow hears about them through a job at the Bugle or a crime he’s stopping and goes to Strange. He doesn’t believe in magic but thinks he’ll give him a lead which leads to the team up. And a bit of totem stuff and Peter having to come to terms with magic being real and his own ties to it>Spider-Man how did you get your powers, if I may ask>Spider bite. A while back an African spider bit me, passed out and woke up in a cocoon. Next thing I know I’m crawling on walls>You had a vision didn’t you? Massive spider-like being?>Yeah… but that was a nightmare. It didn’t actually mean anything. I’m a man of science Doctor>Mr. Parker I’m sorry to say but you have more a tie to the mystic then you think>Doctor please->You claim to have been bitten by a spider and not die but instead given powers unknown to anyone. Now a cult that worships a demon themed after the spiders natural predator is making moves. Yet you still do not see your place in this. That or you simply refuse to believe it>…Let’s keep looking for clues DoctorThen I’m thinking Shathra does make an appearance and her and Peter fight while Strange fights the cultists or works on a way to seal her again>Strange said Anansi had a plan for me, that I’m your natural opposite. The only one who can stop you>Honestly I don’t care! Accident or divine intervention it doesn’t matter! All I know is that you’re going to hurt innocent people and I won’t have that!>Besides lady… I’m spoken for!(Peter and Felicia are together in my Noir universe)
>>154168201i wished they made noir ironman more like the rocketeer than whatever the hell they tried
>>154169353I thought it was pretty cool making him like an Indiana Jones type. It would’ve been better if his suit was smaller so he could use it more because he’s not even really Iron Man he’s Tony Stark: Adventurer (and sometimes he wears a suit of armor)
Most of the noir line was terrible
>>154167314Dr. Strange Noir would basically be Hellblazer but in the 1930s/1940s. He doesn’t do visible magic, wears a tux all the time because that’s the staple of mystical detective characters in this period (no turban though) and he’s a disgraced socialite (but keeps getting invited to parties because the infamy attracts rich people). Basically like an edgier version of the Saint who deals with satanic cults and other mystical shit instead of typical crimes. And the big twist is that he didn’t become sorcerer supreme as a student of the Ancient One, instead he drifted to Asia, fell down to the bottom even harder as a dope addict and con man ripping off other white people, and ultimately ended up selling his soul to Mephisto and now he isn’t actually saving people as much as he’s doing Mephisto’s bidding on Earth, hunting down Blackheart who’s plotting to use Earth as a staging ground for overthrowing daddy’s control of hell. So basically Strange’s heroism is mostly him either thwarting Blackheart’s plots to gain power on Earth or otherwise advancing Mephisto’s bidding. Like he’s instrumental in creating the circumstances for the creation of Noir Ghost Rider so that Mephisto has another servant on Earth. Stephen wouldn’t be tormented victim forced to work for a demon either, nor would he be completely corrupt and evil. He’s basically amoral opportunist, always trying to spin everything to his own selfish advantage, occasionally doing something genuinely good when he has a moment of humanity in him waking up.
>>154169844Kek
>>154170261why do people keep trying to make strange into constantine
>>154173463They don’t.
I just can’t take Nicholas cage face as a spiderman serious. All I ever see with him is his insane character from faceoff and shitty ghostrider. He’s also very fucking ugly to me
>>154166504Yeah marvel noir is form 16 years ago.
>>154174737I only read Spider-Man, X-Men and Luke Cage. Are any of the other Noir minis worth reading?
>>154174881Iron Man’s fun and both of Spider-Man’s first two series are good, rest is trash
Yeah , I think releasing 3 Noir ongoing (Wolverine, Spiderman and Captain America) would have worked better than the midnight label and would have been a case of good synergy
>>154166322knowing current day Marvel>5 (five) "series" and let's call it a "line">barely related to the original line but the name>everyone featured weren't there back in the day>it's actually not even in the same continuity>obviously none of the original creative teams are returning>oh by the way it's all minis actually
>>154175069Not trying to rain on the parade but isn’t part of the appeal of Captain America the “man out of time” thing?
>>154169501You know, i think you hit the nail, to be absolutely transparent. I have not read this story in ages and i believe i'm just unfair because of my lack of knowledge at that young age about marvel
>>154175466I haven’t read it in a while either but for some reason I just remember most of what happened in it. Anyways I think that the actual armor design is cool but again it’s way too big for him to actually use itIf they made it more in that same size range as a regular armor but like where he does have an extra foot then it works in the Iron Man elements much more easily. Maybe make it modular and the weapons or some parts can be switched out?
>>154175904I’ll admit though, the armor turning into a giant motorcycle is sick as fuck
>>154175904>>154176124Pretty cool but at the same time I feel like he should be a chucker MK1 with later MK capabilities with added mobilities.
>>154175279When they rebooted the character in the 60s.In the 60s, prior he was just a WW2 fighter or an cold war fighter
>>154176857I see. Now I wanna see the Noir Avengers>Alright let’s see here… we’ve got>A twenty something year old who can stick to walls and shoot webs>A playboy adventurer with an advanced suit of armor>A trained vigilante in a skull mask>I think I can work with you boys if you can with me and, more importantly, each other. Let’s show the Red Skull the Avengers mean business!(Didn’t include the whole Noir lineup of characters cause I only read Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Punisher)
>>154177026The mission’s barely started>What the hell Frank you just hit me with a jeep!>Quit your whimperin’
>>154167889Yes I don't think a return to X-Noir would continue the previous version where they are all just 'normal' people trained as criminals. I don't think modern Marvel is capable of writing with the subtlety and restraint that it would take to do that instead of just giving them powers.>>154168473There's Elizabeathan Strange in Marvel 1602 and it's okay.Victorian Strange would be just a Penny Dreadful story and could be okay but I do think that leaning into either the Weird Fiction pulp stories and/or hardboiled stories makes for a more unique and interesting approach to the character.>>154168524That is the noir universe Anon. It is understated and not full of superpowers. Daredevil and Spidey are the only ones I can actually think of (arguably Norman I guess but that's more a 'deformity' than a superpower). Sandman is just a muscle man that is called Sandman because he 'puts you to sleep'. It's not meant to be canon to the original stories, it's a What-If style other universe.>>154174881Daredevil is the closest to being a regular Daredevil story. I think it's the best of the bunch.>>154170261I think I like him more as a classical Lovecraft protagonist rather than an actual detective. Have him be a doctor who gets wrapped up in some cult murders or something. Cultists attack him and through some ritual fucking up he gets 'touched' by Agamotto or some shit and has to intervene against the other members of the Vishanti and/or their avatars (in the Noir universe they are all fucked up Old Ones). Have him be constantly paranoid/freaking out about the overwhelming horror of the cosmos and turning to opiates or something to try and deal with it. The arc is him first being pursued by other aspects of the Vishanti and being 'forced' to interact with magic but as he begins to understand what is at stake he faces his fears and grows into the hero/sorcerer supreme and protects the world from cosmic forces.
>>154178462Noir Sandman does have a power. Sorta the reverse of his powers where he can manipulate his internals. It’s why when Peter punched him he barely moved and Peter thought it was like hitting granite… didn’t stop him from getting shot to shit though
>>154168524It was the first book to be published, so it’s pretty weird in comparison
>>154179181Finding their footing I guess
>>154175904I think he just needs more classic ironman elements, funnily enough while I tried to search for this image I realize that in the covers the armor is much more slim than in the issues.
I like that we’ve got four interpretations of Doctor Strange Noir>Pragmatic necromancer infiltrating high society>Mostly calm and collected sorcerer acting as spiritual guru for his new friend Spider-Man>Amoral, basically evil, servant of Dormammu. With the occasional glimmer of humanity>Paranoid victim of the occult going on an arc to become a heroI guess the idea is just that good
>>154180587Same because the idea is cool but it needs like 45% more Iron Man dressing up. Like an arc reactor and the slimmer look from the covers. It can keep the silver look though I like it
>>154180625I feel that it's the only aspect not touched in noir line, because most take the action routes like spiderman or punisher ironman and Deadpool are the only ones that take a different type of story from that era.I think the fantastic four would be another good choice for this universe since you can touch the space side of the 40's stories
>>154181703Fantastic Four Noir would be pretty cool. Like those “Weird Science” stories, maybe a little Edgar Rice Burroughs and Jules Verne too
>>154180625It seriously baffles me that they introduced magic with Spider-Man and then just never added Marvel’s main magic guy. Was he really so unpopular in the 2000s/early-10s that they didn’t think he could sell a miniseries?
>>154177605>Alright guys no need to thank me but I got our intel>Good job Stark. But you didn’t need to sleep with the informant>We all know I did Cap
>>154182725Peter looking at pictures of Felicia and May>Hey Peter. You missing home?>Yeah>Your mother and grandma are very beautiful, son. They’re lucky to have you>…That’s my girlfriend and my Aunt>Oh. She’s a little old for you isn’t she?>Yeah. I think I’m done with this conversation
>>154180587Always loved the jet turbine on the back
>>154176124>Ok Rhodey I’ll get the fuck you sized armor that can turn into a motorbike. And you can have the one with a big gun>…Fair I do like the gun
