This is a great series. Is this ever discussed around here? Or is it still 'this 2d drawing is my girlfriend unironically' around here?

I'm a BIG fan of Filmation Masters of the Universe. Also Golden Story Books Golden Audio Books Mini Comics Comic Books
It's charming and harmless. It's often stupid, but in a way a kid would do it, so it's cute. Also gorgeous backgrounds and sceneries
>>154170390There are 2 ways to look at it fun, campy and entertaining adventures or an offense to creator driven shows for being toyetic.I'm of the fun side, just saying that if you want to discuss this show there will be retarded people arguing it was nothing more than a commercial while ignoring the fact that being fun and entertaining was the best advertisement for the toys.
You know, I may be getting old and like some of the kids here love to say, probably on my way out, but it's still great to see my boy He-Man getting some love now. Didn't even know my own generation still liked the show so much.
Bump
>>154170390I'm a millennial and He-man was always seen as gay and lame, there's a reason it didn't last the way TMNT and Transformers did
It was good enough considering the limitations it had to face at the time in terms of writing and animation. Backgrounds, soundtrack, voice acting and characterizations were objectively great.
>>154173988Cartoons these days will never get villains this metal

AND I CRY SOMETIMES WHEN I'M LYING IN BED
>>154174141Skeletor wasn’t “metal”
>>154170390Why not just go to /tv/ if you want to discuss the new movie instead of starting this stealth thread?
>>154174141>>154175140Skeletor was kind of a whiny pussy while trying desperately to be the villain so...he acted like the typical metal fan.
>>154170390is he-man's sword blunt?
>>154175177Correction: skeletor acted as villainous as they could get away with at the time without attracting angry mothers
>>154170390I think most people like the concept way more than the execution.MOTU in art and imagery looks fucking amazing. But the cartoon is really goofy, weird, everyone has an off voice for some reason, and it's a huge bag of reused animation. It gets annoying after a short while, but it was never once intended to be viewed by anyone older than 10. But anyone seeing the detailed paintings from the early 80s see some of the most fucked up metal covers ever with mutants, cyborgs, and ripped brick shithouse barbarians and think that's fucking awesome. >>154175177They weirdly decided on a Snidley Whiplash mustache twirling voice for him. Like he was way more likely to put on a top hat and tie Teela to some train tracks.
>>154175900effectively, yes. It was a Saturday morning cartoon so you couldn't really show him eviscerated someone with it. alternatively, He-Man's skin is so tough he can touch it without issue
>>154175177He does seem like he grew up as a constant bullied dork that somehow stumbled into ultimate power and now he is acting out all of his villain inner fantasies. Yet his life never really got better because he is STILL being shoved around by the stronger handsome jock and his girlfriend.
>>154170390Heman is honestly still before my time but I can't imagine the hype seeing it come on if you were like 7 in the early 80s.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaiRjnHPykI
>>154176331It's really just the problem any time they gave a cartoon hero a sword or other sharp weapon. They were never ever allowed to use it at all. Like Leonardo or Lion-O, they were reduced to using it to cut ropes so chandeliers or barrels would fall on bad guys, or deflecting lasers with them. At the extreme best of times they might be allowed to cut a robot. But there is really no point in giving a cartoon character a sword or axe, since they will never be allowed to use the damn thing. They will always be forced to drop it and kick a trash can at a bad guy.
>>154170390Wasn't this patient zero for all the 80s commercial tie-in toy shows? Like it was the first time a toy company partnered with a studio to make an animated commercial for their action figures?
>>154176363guy on the right is a convicted pedo
MOTU was easily the worst of the 80's toy franchises. Worse than TMNT and way worse than Transformers. Even worse than GI Joe. There's a reason MOTU dropped like a rock (something like a 98% drop in sales) by the end of the 80's while everyone else persisted.
>>154176433There were a few before He-Man, including G.I. Joe which first aired a few days before He-Man. He-Man was the larger success at first, but G.I. Joe proved to be more successful as He-Man quickly declined in popularity while G.I. Joe kept going strong until the late 2000's.The first I think was a Hot-Wheels tv series, but it didn't take off as well as He-Man and G.I. Joe.
>>154177084>Worse than TMNT and way worse than Transformers. Even worse than GI Joe.You may actually be right, but not a high bar, those were all awesome.He-Man's probably still better than G.I.Joe, though.
>>154177084>>154178296G.I. Joe has a great comic though.
