I feel like while everyone talks about Thick-Line and early CGI when talking about 2000s-style cartoons, no one talks about the "2000s toon" style that had appeared around the same time.>Spongebob>Catdog>Oggy and the Cockroaches>Tom and Jerry Tales>Catscratch>The New Woody Woodpecker Show
>>154171231You mean the early digital ink and paint era? Might as well extend that to R&S too, as MetroCel were behind the digital ink & paint of Carbunkle's S2 episodes.
>>154171268Well that's around 1992-1993. And even if it was from around the time, the writing wasn't as "2000s toon" as the examples(even if most were influenced one way or another by ren and stimpy)
>>154171274So it doesn't just apply to the look of animation during that era, but the writing too? Arguably debatable, as Space Goofs S2 had the strongest writing out of all of these.
>>154171282Ykw you're right. It's mostly the way it looks(though one would argue the way it SOUNDS plays a part too. As this era was notorious for mostly using Hollywoodedge sounds)
>>154171315>HollywoodedgeI remember going into a rabbithole, and it's shocking just how many cartoons use them.
>>154171331>that guy posting compilations of the fucking elephant sound.
>>154171231tom and jerry tales always looked off to me, like in terms of character designas a kid, whenever the bigfoot episode came on i was always repulsed by the guy
>>154171346I remember getting freaked out as a kid by the shapeshifting alien episode
>>154171346I think it depends on who made the episodes, some episodes like OP have the characters look normal whereas other episodes such as...>Flamenco Fiasco>Cat Show Catastrophe >Sasquatched(your example)...have these fucked up "raisin faces" as i like to dub them.I don't know if it was different studios or different storyboard artists but it's certainly something to look into.
>>154171420according to the wiki, those episodes were directed by Spike Brandt & Tony Cervone, who also produced and directed the shitty Nutcracker movie
>>154171449>only direct 12 out of 78 segments>make the characters so fuck-ugly that it irreparably ruins the entire show for most people
>>154171346Had the most babes, though. That kinda makes up for it, for me.
>>154171843Any standouts? I only really remember Toodles, the robot mouse girl and the human lifeguard who was one of the few humans that they allowed the face to be visible.
>>154171231I get where you going OP. Sadly /co/ is dominated by zoomers now who grew up fapping to bean mouthed girlboss lesbians and meta referencing feature films. They don't have a comprehension of cartoonism and the extensions of the non ironical artistic liberties animation provides.
>>154172788I'm a zoomer and I hate fucking shit like TADC and prefer a lot of classic cartoons over it
>>154172788Sorry man, I'm trying to be better
>>154171843A kangaroo, and a bunch of lionesses...unless I'm thinking of the wrong T&J series.
>>154172788Nigga I grew up with these cartoons BECAUSE I'm a zoomer. Most of these shows are from halfway through the 2000s.>Brandy and Mr Whiskers(2004)>Catscratch(2005)>Tom and Jerry Tales(2006)>Oggy and the cockroaches(1998, revived in 2008)>Spongebob(1999, revived in 2005)
>>154173932>kangarooNot as hideous but still a Brandt-Cervone character.
>>154175052a zoomer can be anything between 16 and like 26which one are you closest to
>>15417518425, turning 26 at the end of the year. I'm assuming you're using 1999-2000 as the cutoff year.
>>154171231I think one distinct difference here is that colored outlines were more common. Particularly in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
>>154176216I'd say this art style was most popular from 1997(Sam and Max: Freelance Police) to 2011(The Looney Tunes Show)
>>154176216hey Pink PantherI barely see the cartoons get talked about anymore despite being made by a lot of the same people that did a lot of the LT shorts
>>154171282Space Goofs seems to be somewhere between 90s style and 2000s style.
Season 1 spongebob>cel animation>slower paced>music is all over the place>more about sinking in the atmosphereSeason 2 spongebob>digital ink and paint>faster paced>music has it's own identity>more about the actual setting and comedyThere is no better and quicker example of this switch. Season 2's premiere "Something Smells" seems like it belongs in a nearly completely different show than Season 1's finale "Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy 2".
Catdog might actually be in the same camp as Space Goofs where it's in the transitional state between "90s toon" and "2000s toon"
>>154171393Fun fact: if you search "Tom and Jerry Creepypasta" most images will either be picrel or WB splatter.
