It's moreso the tone of this villain and how he treats the origin and mythos as something lame when that stuff is as important as the characters. Like reverse Brevoort/Slott where all they care about is the surface level callbacks to shit like the spider-mobile while Ennis only likes the potential drama that ensues with a personality like Peter's or Frank's. I mean one is more important to the story but you gotta know how the batmobile works or what tropes it is known for. You don't necessarily need to know how the tires are pumped and what time of day they are pumped or whatever. Ennis can be a good writer. I like his Hitman and Punisher stuff when he isn't being cynical.
