Anyone know why the idea of Bombshell as Cyclonus pissed everyone off? Having him get promoted to second in command should be a cool idea more people embrace
>>
>>154184657
weren't their minds reformatted or am i imagining that
>>
>>154184657
Short answer, fan autism which says literal who's like Thunder cracker AND Skywarp need to be Galvatron's lieutenants because "OG GEN1 symmetry"

Long answer, is that Bombshells too cool of a character to waste turning into Cyclonus, who's personality is entirely defined as having an absurd loyalty to Galvatron even when he's ten sheets to the wind insane and forcing everyone else to suffer his incompetency because so long as Cyclonus is around, no coup to kill Galvatron can work
>>
>>154184677
Originally yes, but since the 00s most Gen1 takes on Scourge and Cyclonus say they remember their previous identies
>>
>>154184657
I felt Cyclonus was the real leader Galvatron was too schzio
>>
>>154184689
Yep, Bombshell just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would become the ultra loyal Cyclonus, where Skywarp makes more sense.

The Insecticons should've never been chucked out. It should've been Skywarp, Thundercraker, and a bunch of generics.
>>
>>154184689
Pretty much. I always was on the "Bombshell is Cyclonus" train myself, and let's be real here, that was likely the intent by the crew working on the movie after the story revisions. Even the storyboard panel shows only Bombshell in it with implications that HE becomes Cyclonus.
>>
>>154184677
One popular theory is that Unicorn flipped everyone's personalities when he reformated them. Megatron went from competent to insane retarded insane, Thundercracker went from being timid secret doubter to a big burly hunter killer loyal to the cause, and depending on your take on who became Cyclonus, Skywarp went from slacker prankster to super serious second in command (especially since Hasbro had Skywarp have the higher leadership stat of the original seekers) to Bombshell going from worthless glutton who doesn't give a shit about Megatron or the cause to Meg/Galvy's most loyal troop, combined with the fan canon that Bombshell is the fan preferred leader of the Insecticons
>>
Everyone knows Bombshell became Hizarmada

>>154184704
It's been years since I watched season 3 but I recall it being a lot more Ultra Magnus vs Cyclonus than Rodimus vs Galvatron
>>
Besides the popularity factor, Bombshell is a super evil shit and you never saw that with Cyclonus. Skywarp is enough of a blank slate to work but NOTHING in Cyclonus screams Bombshell in a new body
>>
>>154184730
Scourge never came off that loyal. Cyclonus was very loyal but Scourge just seemed to be going along with things.

Skywarp was loyal but kind of a goof. His brush with death would make him resolve to get his act together and be the best Decepticon he could be.

Thundercracker was never as sure of the cause. After getting tossed out for dead by his own comrades and the whole brush with death thing, I could see him just going total bitter nihilist. he doesn't give a shit about anything anymore. Just spreading pain.

Nobody ever fanons whatever happened to Shockwave. He was supposed to die but the scene was never done so he just kinda disappears.

I just love the Insecticons. They're like The Dinobots in terms of secret weapon. What they lack in strength they more than make up for in sheer numbers. Kickback, Shrapnel, and Bomshell just make a swarm of ravenous clones to overwhelm the opposition. Sure the clones are weak and cant transform, but they consume and spread like a plague

I came up with an entire prequel backstory/lore for that new whale Shockwave that's in production right now
>>
>>154184785
>Shockwave sees what Megatron has turned into and decides to quietly sneak off and retire
>>
My head canon is that the Autobots killed Shockwave right before the events of the movie and that was why Megatron was so kill happy in the shuttle massacre
>>
In some universes it's Skywarp, and in some universes it's Bombshell.
In some universes it's FIRRIB, and in some universes it's FIBRIR.
In some universes Shockwave is extremely loyal, and in some universes Shockwave is extremely traitorous.
>>
>>154184840
How does your headcanon work with Shockwave being in the movie and having dialogue
>>
What comics should I read if starscream and soundwave are my favorites? Megatron too if those two don’t have much stuff to get into.
>>
>>154184937
The first stretch of Skybound has some pretty fun Starscream
https://youtu.be/VC9B5ytTOUY

Bit of a shame he hasn't done too much lately
>inb4 some dork tries to um actually me
I know! I'm reading the same comic as you

It’s entirely cope because people see Skywarp as cooler than Bombshell and autism about him being the jet like Cyclonus.
Bombshell is SO prominent in the foreground of the reformatting and is like that on the storyboards, there’s no way that’s an error like people claim. The creators involved simply did not care who became who and chose Bombshell on a whim. Linking the pack and purple and blue jet to the purple jet and blue flying boat is only acknowledged by a toy manual because they’re in the same price bracket as the seekers.
Otherwise they lack the design cues of any past characters, whereas Galvatron’s design was clearly based off Megatron( his crown even comes from the Megatron toy’s head)
>>
>>154184657
Setting aside the arguments about whether Cyclonus and Scourge remember their past identities at all, and whether they were dead or just injured or in 'stasis lock' before the term even existed, because there's no fixed canon answer for any of that, which is the cooler idea? The guy who had loyalty to Megatron as a defining trait getting levelled up into a more powerful, competent and mature character who's Galvatron's right hand, and defined by his loyalty to his leader, or a sub-faction guy who was in about 6 episodes and had little real loyalty to Megatron, with his main character traits being hunger and malice getting upgraded into Galvatron's ultra-loyal right hand?

I like the Insecticons as much as the next guy, but this just works better. The whole scene is just a mess because the script didn't specify anything and it was left up to the storyboard artists, and the idea for Cyclonus' Armada was kept in that one scene by mistake even after it had been dropped from the rest of the script.

>>154184717
>It should've been Skywarp, Thundercraker, and a bunch of generics.
Or Reflector, who Sunbow were under orders from Hasbro to use as little as possible anyway, and would've worked as a template for the Sweeps.

On that note, the Sweeps should've had a different head and color scheme so they could've been released as a separate toy.
>>
>>154184657
Because the Insecticons were turned into the Sweeps. That’s why we have all those Sweeps because they’re Insecticon clones.
>>
>>154184785
he became a businessman with cancer, everybody knows that
>>
>>154186076
>>154184657
>>154187282
There is the massive G1 Canon issue that gets ignored in all these discussions: Insecticons can self reproduce and come in swarms. There are hundreds if not thousands of each one so it doesn't really matter.
>>
>>154184657
Hes the coolest insecticon tho
>>
>>154184657
Bombshell and the other insecticona aren't truly loyal to the decepticons. They are there out of fear and to eat.

Being hungry selfish dicks comes up in the orginal episodes. And modern media has fleshed out the idea that they are not decepticons first, insecticons second, but the reverse.

Though this can be said for many sub groups of desepticons. Mostly only the seekers, Soundwave, cartoon Shockwave and a few others are really the only true believers. Groups like the stunticons, combaticons, almost always wish they were doing something other than helping Megatron, mostly just tolerating him because he can make their life hell.

Its an interesting dynamic thats not as represented in later shows.
>>
>>154187861
I think that eventually gets reconned into drone creation, then finally dropped by late season 3

But most of the super power stuff gets dropped. In season 1, everyone had a special power. Season 3, Everyone's just a guu
>>
>>154184780
They really should make this repaint. It would be hilarious.
>>
>>154184730
nah, Bombshell got better
>>
It doesn't matter who became Cyclonus, the intent was that all the cons sans Megatron were dead, their bodies merely being materials for Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps.
Only Galvatron actually kept his consciousness when he was reformatted.
>>
>>154187861
The Insecticon clone crap from the cartoon kind of belittle how dangerous the three are (or to be frank, two of them are as Kickback has zero special powers).

See also how the Seacons are way fucking cooler as a bunch unique characters than they are a mindless horde or drones from Snapdragon to command, even with the meta element of the drones solving the issue of "you can kill a combiner by just destroying one of their limb bots".
>>
>>154189639
>Kickback has zero special powers
He kicks
>>
>>154184657
As a kid I found the Insecticons particularly nightmarish. The intro shows them swimming in lava, which is one of the uttermost lethal substances known to little kids. These guys were invulnerable. And they ate metal, which is what guns and robopeople are made of. They were feral, unkillable cannibals.
>>
>>154189646
Actually his power is that he's a really good blackmailer and spy.

Ironically even Hasbro knows this, which is why they made Kickback also be a kung fu master in his WFC toy figure bio
>>
>>154189843
That reminds me of how Tarantulas is supposed to be a ninja according to his Hasbro bio.

i mean he was supposed to appear in season 3 but his role got taken by blitzwing
>>
>>154190611
yep, the execs said he was written out. I don't know if they were looking at the script that showed him dying or just considered his toy too old (though Soundwave kept making appearances)
>>
>>154190762
>(though Soundwave kept making appearances)

>The earliest releases of Soundwave had solid upper wrists, while those in later assortments have a rectangular gap at the base of the wrist (as shown in the picture to the right). Hasbro re-released Soundwave in 1985 with even more changes. The most immediately-noticeable is that his tape door has a heat-sensitive rubsign instead of the foil Decepticon sigil that was there before. However, there were also a number of other mold changes made to the toy, which got their start in the Japanese Takara release (detailed below).
>The popularity of Soundwave and his interactive tape gimmick was evident from an early stage: his toy continued to be sold up through 1986, after the vast majority of his 1984 brethren had been removed from toy shelves; Mini-Cassette partners continued to be produced for him even after this, through 1988

>>154190611 is confusing shit. Blitzwing was supposed to be the main character of Starscream's Ghost with the original script going to Japan for story boarding (hence why Japanese magazines explicitly had him listed as the main character and one having a storyboard image featured to promote the episode) but at the last minute, Hasbro ordered the episode changed to feature Octane instead to promote his toy instead.
>>
>>154189843

>Actually his power is that he's a really good blackmailer and spy.

And Insecticon leader. Apparently.
>>
The sad thing is that Cynclonus=Bombshell could have made Cyclonus interesting

>>Cyclonus is a gluton

>>Constantly forgets he doesn't have mind control powers anymore

>>Openly insubordinate to Galvatron

>>Just wants to be a hedonist with slaves
>>
>>154192388
I always head canoned that Bombshell let's Kickback THINK he's the leader but Bombshell really runs the show
>>
Why haven't the 3 other lesser known Insecticons featured in more media? You'd think Chop Shop, Venom, and whatever the third guy's name is would be seen more to at least mirror The Dinobots
>>
>>154192497

Back in G1? Because Hasbri didn't make them and had little incentive to advertise them too much.

Now? Who knows.
>>
>>154192497
Chop Shop, Venom, Barrage, and Ransack
>>
>>154191740

>>
>>154192497
The deluxe decepticons and the "deluxe" Autobots (Whirl and Roadbuster) were Bandai toys from two different failed that animes that Hasbro bought the US rights to. Hence them being embargoed outside of Marvel UK

Since then Whirl and Roadbuster have new designs that are usable while the deluxe Insecticons don't get used because a lot of people hate them.
>>
Annoying question: but have the human/Nebulon forms of Siren and Nightbeats headmasters ever been shown? I read somewhere that the sub club conic revealed Hosehwad's headmaster was black.

Has anyone ever storytimed the GI Joe and Transformers Sub Club stories?
>>
>>154192388
I don't remember him ever being described as the leader. He was supposed to be the charming one. That's how he suckered people in divulging their secrets for blackmail. Shame we never saw a story with that in action
>>
Why doesn’t Optimus join the decepticons? He’s too cool for how lame autobots are
>>
>>154194288
what like seducing the foreman of an oil rig to learn its secrets while megatron's planning a decepticon attack to steal the oil from the rig

Because they already have enough nerds in Decepticon command and don't need a library specific one. He's the kind of nerd other nerds bully, that's HOW he came to start the Autobots in the first place. Truefacts.
>>
>>154194378
Prime was a cop/librarian for the Cybertronian Senate, so he was defacto a force to reform the status quo not burn it down
>>
haha dinotaint
>>
>>154194623
Most likely, he would sucker a Decepticon into giving up secrets so the Insecticons could raid Decepticon headquarters
