I can't believe DC is putting Al in their comics now.>The story begins when a mysterious affliction sweeps through the Fifth Dimension, transforming everything strange, imaginative, and extraordinary into something painfully ordinary. As the crisis spreads to Earth, Mr. Mxyzptlk turns to Superman and Batman for help. Faced with a threat unlike any they’ve encountered before, the heroes seek assistance from an unconventional ally: “Weird Al” Yankovic.
>>154188589>I can't believe DC is putting Al in their comics now.Why not? He's been in several of their cartoons.
Oh yeah, out on September 2.
I'm just surprised Weird Al is considered relevant enough to do this kind of thing.
>>154188644I despise Spears' art so much
>>154188735He’s about as relevant as Kevin Smith, so… perfect for comics.
>>154189039Wrong cause I know about Weird Al but not whoever Kevin Smith is.
>>154188735Weird Al's ability to remain on the outskirts of pop culture relevance for almost 50 years now is something I have never understoodI don't hate his music or his whole schtick. It's corny but inoffensive I just don't understand how you build a half century career with a few moments throughout of mainstream attention (Fat, White and Nerdy, etc.) based on thatI don't even think he's part of the entertainment industry pedo jew cabal, which REALLY makes things confusing
>>154189360People just like him, I think. Not insanely a lot of people and they don't like him insanely a lot, but I think he's just a fun dude people in the industry like and people in general think is neat when they remember him or his shtick surfaces for them again. Also, one has to imagine every time someone makes a weird jokey mash up, Weird Al comes to some of the audiences' attention somehow. Either the algorithm brings it up or someone in the comments talks about him.
>>154189360He’s somewhat uncontroversial, appropriate for all ages, and overall likable. He also has a marketable rags-to-riches backstory that further promotes goodwill.
>>154189816>>154190444Sure, like I said I don't hate his schtick and I don't know that I've ever met anyone who really dislikes him. I don't begrudge him having success, as you pointed out as far as I can tell he's a nice guyBut if being a nice guy who's good to work and has an inoffensive brand were enough to let someone have a career in showbusiness for 45 years, there would be a million Weird Als.Maybe it's just one of those "In the right place at the right time" things, I don't knowI don't want to sound like I'm shitting on him, I'm not. I've got nothing against himI'm more commenting on how evil literally everyone else with clout in show business is, and how a guy who by all accounts is as clean cut and friendly as can be surviving in that wretched den of filth for so long is baffling
>>154188589Warner Bros has had em cameo in AT and I think he's also been in TTG so they are one of the places that still has him crossover. Not that surprising. But yeah pretty soulful to bring in Mxy. Fits Weird Al quite well. I think Weird Al voicing some a character bounced off Mxy in Superman TAS could have been fun. Not sure if he would voice an OC or voice someone else if that happened.
>>154188589>I can't believe DC is putting Al in their comics now.
>>154189816>they don't like him insanely a lot,Have you ever been to one of his live shows? That's where you'll see his most rabid fans, and they're nothing to sneeze at. I've been to 3 of his concerts, and I've got tickets to his upcoming tour near the end of summer. It's always a great show.
>>154188615It's just... kind of weird.
>>154190777>inoffensive brandThis is probably the riskiest joke Al has made besides poking fun at the Amish, but this was back in the 80's/ early 90's when his humor was a bit edgier.
>>154192493You don't say. /sarcasm
>>154192514UHF was such a fun movie.
>>154190777He didn't deal with the devil, he didn't snort the coke, he didn't touch the children and get blackmailed. He just wrote funny songs and did his best to be polite, genuine, and meticulous. That's the sort of thing that builds you a strong and loyal fan base for life, unlike so many flash in the pan bandwagon Fandom that supernova into being and die just as quickly. No, the Weirdness endures.
>>154190777Yes a good chunk of it was 'right place, right time' (21st century folks don't realize how fucking powerful radio top ten hits and MTV ruled the media landscape) plus a good work ethic. It helped a lot that everything was genuinely good humored, he always asked for permission (even though he didn't have to) and none of his stuff was mean spirited. He was very 'safe' and so he became the jester of the music industry long enough to be an institution and his career (and life) has outlived most of the artists he satirized.
>>154188589Nice. I fucking love Weird Al, saw him in concert as a kid.
What's the best polka medley and why is it Angry White Boy Polka?
>>154192570Conan The Librarian, classic.
If they ever used Mr Myx in a movie they should have weird al do the voice (or master shake guy)>gilbert Gottfried is dead:(
>>154188629>Composite Weird Al isn't neon greenGuys. Come on.
>>154193358Because you are correct and angry songs make the funniest polkas.
I wonder if Weird Al is a metahuman or something.
>>154188589It genuinely makes me suicidal knowing I will live to see Weird Al dieI listened to his parodies a fuck load in my teens and sill enjoy them in my twenties
>>154193775Dana Snyder as Mxy and Al as Bat-Mite
>>154195421You should try and meet him at least.
>>154195421I dunno man, he's fit and a vegan. He could last a good long time. By the time he goes, you might have experienced enough loss to desensitize yourself. That being said, celebrate his life, don't mourn his death. You know he'd prefer it that way.
>>154197512being vegan makes him more likely to die not less
>>154188615>implying anything other than a parochial American thing no one out side the USA is aware of.He did a thing in the 80s once, probably.
>>154199037Don't be silly. Veganism gives him access to psychic powers and the ability to play bass guitar.
>>154199277I feel like you're trying to quote Hank Hill or something, but Al is not just popular in the States, but also in Canada, Australia, the UK, mainland Europe and Latin America, and even has a niche following in other countries beyond that. Of course, the nature of parody music kind of limits his popularity outside of English speaking countries, but he IS known around the world.
>>154195171sure I guess
>>154195171>>154203922Well, he never metahuman he didn't like. *rimshot*
>>154189360He's not Jewish, but one played his in the movie.
This is definitely something boomer Mark Waid would write in 2026. Guy can pretty much do whatever he wants now.
>>154204286And one in Pretty Fly For A Rabbi.
>>154188589I've never come across a worthwhile crossover.
>>154188589Very much looking forward to reading this.
>>154206056Batman has like five good ones himself.
>>154188589This is ridiculous.
>>154190777Everyone in entertainment/business/politics isn't evil. Just enough of them are.
>>154206381Nope.
>>154188589Weird Al is already a DC character
