The comics-reading audience was a lot smaller by the 2010s and Fear Itself was largely forgotten after it ended, like most other modern event stories. In 2015 by the time things had been filtered down from actual comics readers to Redditors and Youtubers to casuals and normies, it was just the idea "Cap can lift Mjolnir in the comics" that was known, not the how or when or how often, and overstated like it was a lot more important than it really was.
