>JTHM turns 30 this yearHave you read it? Did you like it? Do you wish there was more to the Jhonen-verse?
>>154206122I wish jhonen would get off his bean bag chair and stop playing vidya for two seconds to make another comic run of something, anything. He is literally one of my top 10 favorite /co/ creators and the man has done barely fuck all in years.
>>154206144Jhonen isn't into creepy/edgy/hot-topic type stuff anymore. Ironic since his work is still king of that sphere.
>>154206122I think it sucks, but in kind of an endearing way? Like it's ultimately just pure edgy teen trash, and I can't really get back into that same mentality as an adult. But I have fond memories of those times, and can appreciate the comic for what it is through that lens. It's almost nostalgic reading it now.I Feel Sick was the better work in every way.
>>154206176>won the hot topic bowl>looked upon his kingdom and wept for there were no more alt girls left to conquer>retired peacefullyHe won.
>>154206122i read it as a teenager, i fear that if i read it again i may die of cringe
>>154206356I think that what saves it is the fact that the work itself doesn't condones Johnny in any way. It makes it very clear that the guy is truly an asshole, and takes several jabs at the alt and both scene. It's a satire of edgy teenagers, not something played straight.
>>154206176Then make something else.
>>154207308Art isn't worth it if your soul isn't into it. That's when a work becomes slop.
>>154206122I'll echo the opinion of "it sucks", but in a way I'll love forever. The violence for the sake of violence that Jhonen pretends is satire, the interesting yet utterly wasted backstory of painting the wall to keep "IT" locked in, Satan as a cheerleader vomiting world-building for an entire issue, oh man it's such hot trash. Part of me wishes Vasquez would give it another go with a more thought-out script, but I don't think there's any want for that story to exist, especially from Vasquez.>mfw Nny kidnaps someone to tell him if his leftovers have expired
I'm afraid that it will never get a real ending even though IFS is already sort of a sequel
>>154206122"Somebody put shit in my pants!" Still makes me lol.
>>154208894I love how he still continues to make appearances after that
>>154206176True, but he is also the good kind of creepy edgy goth that laughs at itself and doesn't take it seriously. The good kind that is IRONIC in nature while also poking fun at the absurdities of real life society being indifferent and makes fun of people and movements that think's people should be as uncaring or as indifferent towards others.Laughing at selfish people with bugs up their asses that continue to shove misery in people's faces instead of bringing joy or laughter through absurd self deprecation humor.
>>154206122I've never read it. Should I?
>>154210829If you like Invader Zim, or something akin to that humor, then yes. It's a very funny comic series that ends too abruptly.
>>154210829It's pretty funny and if you're too lazy to read, there's a decent comic dub on youtube for all the issues
>>154206122I read it when I was on high school can't remember much but I think it was a nice comic. I like Squee and Fillerbunny better, tho.
>>154206122They should make a Johnny the Homicidal Maniac movie and keep it as edgy as possible. I think the modern edgelord Zoomer would find it fun.
>>154211366It should be as edgy as the og Evil Dead movies.
>>154211366Honestly with all the revivals coming out lately, I was hoping Adult Swim would adapt it as a mini-series
>>154211463as they shouldwith trash like Pickles the DogJTHM is far more Adult Swim territory
>>154206122 (OP)30 years huh. Time flies.I remember I read it around the mid 2000's. Thought Invader Zim's style was dope, looked at who the creator was, and decided to check his work.I liked it at first, the style is quite unique as expected, but I never finished it. I didn't quite enjoy edgy/gorey stuff, even back then during my angsty teen years.Still, It was nice, I wish he did more stuff.
>>154211621Don't worry, the author never finished it either. Despite the edginess, I always thought the comic was quite self-aware and used the gore to emphasize how douchey the goth scene really was. Even with the Wobbly Headed Bob and Happy Noodle Boy segments, you can tell that it was making fun of how melodramatic and hypocritical edgelords were.
>>154211250This is my first time learning about "comic dubs."That's pathetic.
>>154211680Eh, it's how all amateur voice actors get their practice in nowadays if you weren't a theater kid. Most of those are made out of passion for the source material, but unfortunately not everyone can act
>>154206122lost what little plot there was when he went to hell and heaven
>>154212198but the heaven part was kino
if you had to choose a voice actor to play Nny in JTHMwho would you choose besides Billy West or Richard Horvitz
>>154213997I can't unhear him as this guy. Ideally someone who sounds relatively normal and not doing an edgy guy voicehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHFCadKW98Y
Does anyone remember Lenore? I seem to remember Dirge and Vasquez being friends, wasn't there some overlap between their comics or am I misremembering?
>>154214188I think I literally watched this same video. He does a great job capturing the irony in his edginess.
>>154206122Johnny The Homicidal Maniac has always been one of my absolute favorite comics, but there’s definitely a reason it’s never been adapted. It’s violently politically incorrect, it’s really gross, with some of the most intense gore I’ve ever seen, and it peaks early with issue 3 of 7, but I would still recommend it to anyone who’s into that kind of shit.>IT HAS A BRAIN!
>>154206356>>154206685>>154206884Everyone I’ve ever seen banging edgy teen stereotypes about this comic is either a black guy or an antisemite seething about Johnny murdering a black activist in the café massacre.
>>154214516Roman Dirge worked with him on Zim IIRC
>>154214516
>>154208894Didn't Family Guy stole that joke?
>>154213997>nasel congestion noise>Well, y'know, it's a frighting world to be alone in, Pim.
While I liked JTHM, I enjoyed Squee way more.
