Is the reason people make "He-Man is gay" jokes because Mattel designed the characters and lore to pretty much be "Conan the Barbarian meets the New Gods" but Filmation's writers pretty much did "Captain Marvel meets the Smurfs" and the result is superficially kinda gay and definitely campy?
it was literally gay and sassy leather daddy shit
He walks around in a pink shirt.
>why don't they make the male characters as skimpily dressed as the female characters.>show where they do>Heh, totally gay
>>154211096If you arent already a dyed in the wool fan of MOTU you will never get it. All anyone on the outside sees are the memes. That's it. I can only liken it to living in a world where all anyone knew spiderman for were memes from the 1967 animated series. All the underlying potential, all those great characters, all the amazing stories they've never been exposed to simply dont matter because "haha gay joke".
>>154211162
>>154211206It's torture aint it? Maybe I should be thankful that sword and sandals flavored sci-fi ended up so thoroughly obscure and overlooked but instead I'm just intensely depressed by the outcome. You see the same thing with Tarzan these days. Nobody talks about the novels or the comics, most only recognize the disney film if they recognize anything at all, and the conversation dies there.
>>154211096He Man got the gay accusations because come on, Adam wears effeminate colors. Even when he transforms his armor leaves too much exposed, Lion O from Thundercats despite having loose armor looks more covered up. And the reason characters that are similar like Tarzan don't get accused of being gay despite being half naked is because he has a good reason to be wearing little clothing, he's raised in the wilderness. And the reason Conan gets no accusations like He Man is because he's allowed to truly kick ass and fight seriously and brutally. He Man is censored by default. And another thing hurting He Man is the title of the character, that comes across as a parody of masculinity He Man. There was nowhere to go with this brand for it never had potential to be decent. And when I think of fantasy series stuff like He Man got replaced by Legend of Zelda.
>>154211096No. It’s because in the intro Prince Adam says “fabulous” powers were given to me.The word “fabulous” has since been taken over by Gay People. Like rainbows. So now that’s why He-Man is associated with “Gay.”

>>154211247The filmation colorist responsible for that color choice was colorblind and intended for the pinks and purples to be various shades of green. This is why most filmation cartoons heavily utilize pinks and purples. They had a colorblind colorist on staff who couldnt discern between reds and greens and nobody knew, so they just went with it.>And the reason Conan gets no accusations like He Man is because he's allowed to truly kick ass and fight seriously and brutally. He Man is censored by default.>And another thing hurting He Man is the title of the character, that comes across as a parody of masculinity He Man. There was nowhere to go with this brand for it never had potential to be decentThe mini-comics embraced the Conan inspiration but the runaway success of the cartoon ensured He-man would be eternally doofy. Now we cant go one single iteration without heya references.
>>154211461We can have nothing in this shit world
>>154211486Not by looks, but everything else about him definitely is. He fights, goes on adventures usually alone, even turns into a wolf.It just proves that anon's point further, it's not just that He-Man LOOKS gay for NO REASON, it's also that he does nothing truly violent like his character design would imply. His very concept basically is "here's a barbarian that doesn't really hurt people and mostly uses his sword as a wand", that alone is incredibly gay, without considering Adam's colors or his haircut or whatever.Things like the 2002 show tried to course-correct some of these problems, but they never even came close to the popularity he had in the 80s, so the old show is still the main point of reference for everyone, both the audience and the creators, even above the toys and comics.

>>154211701Adam and He-Man look the same because Filmation and Mattel weren't about to spend more money on a new character mold. That's the only reason why they look the same. Also Adam's vest used to be blue in the early comics but became pink because the producer of the show was colorblind and pointed out the color he wanted and no one questioned him. He wasn't told until it was way too late.
>>154211096oh, that's hot.best of both worlds. Get some oneeshota action going, but also some ojiiloli action too... Not bad.

He has a Bobcut. He wears Pink when casual, a skintight leotard shirt underneath and a leather X when not. And a Speedo and Fluffy boots everywhere. He says the word "fabulous" a lot. Filmation draws him with full kissy lips.Yes and that one internet video of him singing a song everyone thought was about a Closeted Gay Man. That played a part. The name is sus as well. Puts too much emphasis on the "men men men" part. If you called a Gay Club "He-Men" we'd all know what it was about.

>>154214335The average person will not be aware or care that the producer was colorblind, they will just see a muscleman in pink.
>>154214335It doesn’t matter why the vest is pink it still ends up making the show look gay in context to the 80s
Was all the lesbian dom bondage iconography iin the show for boys?

>>154211096Nah it's because gays try to infest and take over everything they see and make it about them shoving their dicks into each other's asses. He-man was just tragically one of the first victims.
The undertones are homosexual and a lot of the jokes are gay flirting.
>>154215626Anon, why do you keep thinking about shoving dicks to people’s anuses so much?
>>154213749But he doesn't need to say that to use his powers. If you try to shoot Clark Kent in the back of the head, the bullet would still bounce off if he didn't already know you were coming because he could hear your heart beat or something. Try the same with Billy Batson and him having time to say "Shazam" is all that would prevent his graymatter from turning into blood flavoured jelly splattered on the wall. What do you think would happen to Prince Adam?

Gay accusations just used to be the most effective, low hanging fruit insults.
>>154214335The colorist being COLORBLIND just makes the show seem even more slipshod and pathetic lacking any real care or attention
It's pretty much all because of Adam's design in the Filmation cartoon. It ruins the plausible deniability that everyone is ripped as some show of larger than life power, since Adam is not supposed to be powerful or large than life, and reframes it as everyone being ripped as if it's simply someone's preference. Now in reality this is probably Filmation trying to accommodate for 80% of the characters needing to be represented by the same toy mold in the toyline, but it can easily read as someone behind the scenes having a "type" if you don't have that knowledge.
>>154211096I'm not surprised the movie is doing bad, but I'm surprised it's on track to be "one of the biggest bombs of all time." They needed to chill with the jokes every two seconds, and some of the stuff about how only a 10 year old would use these names was cringe ("He-Man? You called yourself He-Man?" right before the end...), but for the most part it was... fine. I suspect they would have had more success if they'd gone the route of the CGI show or Dreamworks She-Ra and made the lead a teen, and the story "lighthearted adventure (with some more serious parts)" vs. "it's a comedy, with action bits!"
This movie bombing means Warner Bros will never make a Thundercats film.Sadge.
>>154211149If you look at physically fit men and immediately think it's gay, you are just projecting
>>154211096No, the reason people make "He-man is gay" jokes is because they're gen x assholes and all they know how to do is call shit gay or make pot references.

>>154217999I just don't get why they literally gave it a higher budget than Barbie. He-man has NEVER been bigger than Barbie. It was always going to fail with expectations like that, even if it did okay.
>>154218333Or maybe it's because the show is legitimately fucking gay the way other 80's cartoons weren't.

>>154218447>I just don't get why they literally gave it a higher budget than Barbie. Because the movie that had locations like "Snake Mountain" & "Castle Grayskull" and characters like "Man made out of moss" was always going to cost more to film than the movie with locations like "beach" & "beach (LA version)" and characters like "Midge."

>>154223633well either because anon is full of shit or because filmation had pretty shitty standards
>>154211149You're a faggot seth
>>154211096the whats going on video popularized the gay He-man jokes. Also the haircut in the 80s cartoon looked pretty gay, that's why all the reboots change it.
>>154223720This. They had Skeletor kill King Randor one minute, and were back to joking around with Human Resources gags the next.It felt like it wanted to be jokier than stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy while still having serious elements. Fair enough, but they overshot the mark to the point where it was neither a good comedy nor a good adventure film. It wasn't terrible, but there's no getting around how awkward it could be at points, both in terms of not allowing the serious moments carry some weight, and overdoing the "Boy, there sure is something childish and cringe about He-Man, isn't there?" parts.

Even if I reclusively retire to my own projects alot of what's being made still sucks dick.
>>154223558Such has been the case for decades. I grew up on the 2002 series and even then that was the take away. People didnt get it and assumed it was gay, boring, or both. >>154223633Because Filmation was the lowest rung fly by night animation house in America up until they shuttered their doors. They were the last guys doing everything domestically too. Despite that people still turn their noses up at their cartoons. Besides their crumby Dick Tracy adaption I still get a kick out of alot of this stuff. Whatever, most people cant appreciate shit older than them. That's life.>>154223744Irvin Kaplan. Look it up.
>>154224851Thanks for these storytimes. It makes this dying website moderately more tolerable.
>>154227324Posts like yours make me happy AI is bulldozing this industry. Nobody here deserves shit.
>>154227018Holy shir that explains a fucking lot, specially considering game studios nowadays touching older IPs and the self insert models
AND I CRY SOME TIMES WHEN I'M LYING IN BED
>>154227964Relax, son, it's just a drawing.
>>154227964trans btw
Just watched the movie todayI found some gags funny, but in general it was way too constantly self-aware for my liking, to the point it was a detriment to my experienceThat said, I liked the action and the story (even if others would consider it basic). The movie felt earnest in those regardsI give it 6/10 (feeling generous, 7/10)
>>154227324I'll entertain that, cause it's hilarious if those 20 something guys sabotaged this entire series' reputation because they had a giggle from him looking Gay
>>154228053I don't think it helps either that the movie is titled Masters of the Universe. An unaware moviegoer would probably think it's a generic action flick for little boysThey'll throw their money to the upcoming Spider-Man film
