Controversial opinion... I like Shrek 4. I really liked the idea of parallel timelines/universes; it's very different from what we saw in the previous films, and I really liked the butterfly effect that happened due to the simple fact that Shrek was never born, how different things could be. That's a really cool idea. I didn't really like how Shrek humiliates himself for Fiona and her feminist attitude she could have had a "sweet" personality while participating in the rebellion. Overall, I like this movie. It's a fun movie, unlike the third one at least.
>>154235036So much for being ogre
>>154235110Same...
>>154235036I also think the hate is sometimes a bit exaggerated. It's not even comparable to how awful Toy Story 4 or even 3 is. The problem with this movie is that things happen too fast.
>>154235159>The problem with this movie is that things happen too fastAll the four Shrek movies don't last more than 83 minutes if you remove the credits
>>154235036What happened to Fionna's timeline? Did she "die"?
>>154235036It didn't deliver as much laughs, but it was still a fine movie and much better than 3. A shame both are grouped together so often.
>>154235676Perhaps the Shrek universe has multiple timelines like Diagon Ball Z or Marvel? Maybe there's a timeline where Shrek never rescued Fiona and remained in his swamp until the end of his days, one where Fiona married Farquaad, or one where Prince Charming won. Who knows, maybe Rumpelstiltskin has knowledge of this and uses it to his advantage?
>>154235835Exactly. I think both Shrek 4 and Toy Story 3 were quite "depressing" at certain points.
>>1542350368/10 My favorite part is when Shrek talks about his children with this new Fiona and gives her the doll. It kind of "died" if it weren't for the script

>>154235036It's not exactly a controversial take. Anyone who's seen 4 agree that it's actually pretty decent and had a few good things going for it. It gave us Butterpants and all he did was say one line multiple times and everyone loved it. The problem is that it came after the poorly received 3 and suffered all that backwash.
>>154237561>The problem is that it came after the poorly received 3 and suffered all that backwash. What?
>>154235110Shrek 5 honestly pisses me off than most cashgrab animated legacy sequels. Forever After (alt titled The Final Chapter) actually felt like a definitive closing of the main franchise. I wouldn't've minded a couple more spin-offs or whatever, but literally doing 'More Shrek Just Because' pisses me OFF
>>154238961You lost bro
>>154235036Its not complete shit like 3. And it has one of the most soulful credits sequence in film
>>154237561Well put my friend
>>154235036I don't get why it has like a 50% on rotten tomatoes. It has a strong emotional core, plot is fun and sprinkles little set ups for later like Fiona teachering Shrek to tie knots and Shrek's daughter's doll. It has a great pacing and I like the songs and animation. I really think it deserves an 80 or even 90. Shrek has such a good arc in this movie.
Hating on this is 200% justified because nobody wants to watch a Shrek movie for the existential horror and deep character introspection.
>>154239104This. Maybe 80% >tomatoesBiased crap
>>154239192>Hating on this is 200% justifiedFor example?
