The best slice of life cartoons take place in the Midwest and Northeast.
>>
What about southwest?
>>
>>154243855
We're sleeping on noncontiguous, it's a shame.
>>
>>154243855
For the north east probably Hey Arnold, I know it’s not a real city but the weather patterns suggest north east and it’s clearly inspired by New York or Philadelphia as a city. If that’s not close enough than Phines and Ferb it’s the Tri state area so that’s easily north east.
>>
>>154243855
>Midwest
Good, I'm sick of Cali hogging up all the glory. TLH is especially great because I can't think of many cartoons that take place in Michigan specifically.

The city in Hey Arnold was inspired in part by NYC but canonically takes place in Washington State.

My current theory is Ed, Edd n Eddy is set in Maine.
1. It is close to Canada so see the Canadian skyline is possible.
2. Creek is mainly used in New England States
3. There was a sign that said Peach Creek had a Beach yet the kids go to the watering hole due to most Maine beaches being rocky.
4.There is a "desert" in Maine due to desertification.
5.There is a sea side National Park area.
>>

Are there any on the Southeast region? I'm drawing a blank. I know some feature Florida episodes, but I don't remember it being the main setting.

>Virginia and Maryland are southern
Stop this bullshit, they're two of the biggest blue states in the country. Just because there's a holler of hillbillies in one corner does not make them Dixie

Craig of the Creek, technically. It takes place in Maryland. Surely there's a Disney show that takes place IN Florida or the Carolinas. Class of 3000 took place in Atlanta.

Nice anon, thanks

I dunno. NJ is pretty boring. I hate it here. And I'm always broke.
>>
>>154246227
>>154246192
I think it's confirmed somewhere that Edd Ed and Eddy is set in Georgia. Georgia is the Peach State and there's a million towns with Peach in the name
>>
>>154246227
Squidbillies is in north Georgia.

The main reason why Left Coast shares so much with Yankeedom and Appalachian is because that's where the majority of the settlers came from
>>
>>154244436
The Loud House is set in Michigan. Just outside of Detroit, apparently.
>>
>>154246192
it's pretty obviously generic Midwestern. Michigan or Ohio. considering Antonnuci is from Toronto (right across the border from Detroit), I'm trending towards Michigan.
>>
>>154246263
Maryland was fully colonised by Yankees in the 70s, and Virginia has been going the same way because of spillover from Arlington. North Carolina is starting to get colonised too.

>deliberate effort to not have anything set in the south, the sole exception is a show made in Atlanta by people from Georgia
really highlights the anti-southern bias
>>
>>154247532
People had to fight about including The Transformers movie on the original map. It is weird that almost none of The South has a show there. Was there no animated Beverly Hillbillies or Petticoat Junction series Hanna Barbera shat out in the 70s? You think one of these newer grifter online platformed would have made a show set in Tennessee at the very least.
>>
>>154247487
Rugrats is set in Cali? I thought it was in Texas. There's literally an early episode where they're watching some big football game where its the Dallas Cowboys vs The Houston Oilers.
>>
>>154247725
Hanna Barbera did a hillbilly show in the 70s, I don't think they named the state it was in though.
>>
>>154244436
>>154247487
Saying American Dad takes place in Virginia is %100 correct, but ever saying represents the rest of the state is just wrong. That's like saying a blade of grass speaks for a whole neighborhood. The beltway outside of DC is nothing like the southern or western parts.
>>
>>154247943
If we're going off that logic, most of these shows don't "represent" their state as much as they do a single city. TMNT represents NYC, not the entirety of New York state. KotH only represents Central Texas and not the plains or coastal parts of Texas. Steven Universe in no way represents ANY of Delaware.
>>
>>154247487
>Rick and Morty is set in my shithole of a state
>>
>>154243855
Why is "Pacific Northwest" not its own thing? What are we, California's colder little brother?
>>
>>154248116
the difference is the overwhelming majority of the New York population lives in NYC, and suburban Dallas is pretty representative of the rest of the state culturally.
>>
>>154248199
Seattle and Portland are exurbs of Frisco, yes
>>
>>154248116
SU shouldn't be on the list, while it's set in a real geographical area the state it's set in is entirely fictitious.
>>
>>154248218
Most of Tennessee's population is split between Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville, but none of them really completely represent Tennessee as a whole (Black City, Liberal Metropolitan, and College Town respectively). Also, the image of suburban Dallas culture is the version of Texas the state uses for promotional purposes. I doubt someone from Lubbock would want to be compared to someone from Dallas.
>>
>>154243855

All these regions should go to war against each other.

Aren't all our major nukes housed in the Rockies? Having these specific regions balkinize would just mean that the leader of the Mormons has the country (and world) by the balls.
>>
>>154244436
Did some poking around...
>An American Tail: Fievel Goes West is set in Utah
>Bless the Harts is set in North Carolina
>As Told by Ginger is set in Connecticut
>>
>>154248718
The bases have the nuke, but not the PAL codes.
>>
>>154248922
I doubt DC's going to want to become the new DMZ between New England and the Super South. I imagine the entire Federal Government immediately bugs out to Cheyenne Mountain and give the Mormons what they want.
>>
>>154243926
>>154243969
I’ve lived in all the cities Hey Arnold was inspired by (NYC, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, currently lived in the last one about 10 years) and to be honest Arnold’s city feels the least like Seattle. The brownstone type buildings that look like the boarding house don’t really exist out here, and there’s no deep religious Jewish community out here the same way there is on the East Coast.
I guess the closest thing is having ferries and islands, since we have Bainbridge and Mercer and stuff, but even then the islands in Hey Arnold always felt more like Governor’s island in NY or something, small parks and historical sites rather than places where people lived.

>>
>>154250137
no. States exist to reflect the cultural identities of the settlers who platted them.
>>
>>154250172
Regardless of what you think a state is, a state is an idea, while the land and people are physical beings even as their names and forms change.

When people picture America certain areas come to mind instantly. New York City, Hollywood, Texas, Las Vegas and ambiguous midwestern small town.

MD has at least three distinct cultures from each other and VA could easily have five. However, both states are fairly similar to each other, and less similar to actually Southern states.
