This is all your fault! You should've bought the rights to road to El dorado instead of gooning for chel! Not even sure what movie that is in the bottom left but I'm sure it was a literal masterpiece, you Shrek loving fucks!!!!

No.
Hollywood can't make good adventure films anymore, and even less animate them well.
And bottom left is so far the worst Simbad film.

El Dorado was barely advertised here when it came to theatres, if it did. I tried to watch Sinbad, but I think I missed the time of the showing. Either didn't have much money or wasn't all that interested in the other two.

Treasure Planet and Atlantis are two of the greatest post-Renaissance Disney works to this day, and El Dorado and Sinbad are by no means "mediocre." It just sucks that all four had to compete with CG, the flashy new technology at the time.
>>
>>154247411
But putting all the ironic memes that came much later aside, the first Shrek film was also good.
>>
>>154248514

It never died, it just stopped getting coverage.

it's back now and growing in strength. A lot of 30 and 40 year olds who used to mock it are joining it now that they have kids and the "gays" are coming to corrupt their kids.

I'm almost 40 and I see people my age suddenly going on about being church goers at some megachurch paid by rich people.

Where do you think all these censorship laws are coming from?

As a kid I watched all these movies and they all lacked a certain energy and charisma to really hook me. The closest was Road to El Dorado, but even that movie lacked a strong enough hook to make me say "Yeah I really liked that film", they were just all 'ok'.

Re-watching them as an adult, they're a little more bearable, but I still feel like they lack things to really grip an audience...The animation is good enough and they have attractive leading women design wise, but none of the male leads are cool, none of the sentimental moments stick with you or really land, the mechanical design work is meh, the scripts feel lacking in content.

Treasure Planet as an elevator pitch sounds like it would print money, but you actually watch the movie and nothing lands. There aren't any memorable/iconic moments or lines or (outside of the female lead) impactful designs.

The main characters all have the same smarm-quick wit charisma...idk It just feels like a very shoddy era in 2D animation and it unfortunately came about when 3D was really hitting its stride. I would pick Shrek 1 over any of these movies any day (probably every time).

I’m really curious why you think none of the emotional moments land or that the scripts are lacking.

>Treasure Planet as an elevator pitch sounds like it would print money, but you actually watch the movie and nothing lands. There aren't any memorable/iconic moments or lines or (outside of the female lead) impactful designs.
You don’t remember Silver’s cyborg design, nor think his relationship with Jim was sweet?

>The main characters all have the same smarm-quick wit charisma
The only ones that applies to are El Dorado and Sinbad, and even then in El Dorado, they both have quite differing personalities (Miguel’s more optimistic and a dreamer while Tulio’s more cynical and pragmatic).
>>
>>154248763
I think you were just low test, I've seen half as a kid and half as an adult and they defined my expectations for animated movie adventures, everything else feels like an overly safe contained formula that never goes anywhere with the same beats every time

To me all other animated movies feel like they're spinning their wheels in place, but I rank these among LOTR and POTC when it comes to the feeling of adventure
>>
>>154247411
I liked all these movies. I'm not sure if i saw Sinbad. El Dorado will always give me fond memories cause of all the great things that happened during the time it released. Also it felt the animators had a lot of fun working on the movie. Litterally nothing to get mad at.
>>154247907
Maybe but that says more about the overcorrecting on DEI trash than the "retards".
But it would mainly have been done by false flaggers and a couple of schizo's cause the characters were all fun or cute.

Visa and Mastercard banning adult content and acting like a governing force have a lot of religious influence backing their decisions, a lot of the same kind of groups that wanted pokemon and japanese things banned from western markets are behind those bans and shutdowns too.

Look who lobbies for laws pushing censorship. comes from christian groups.

The age verification stuff though, comes from Mark Zuckerberg because he's ruined if one lawsuit can prove that he allowed children access to adult content or allowed them to be exploited by sexual predators. If he can make world governments track and silence people. He can say he's compliant with these laws and not get sued or get things thrown out under the guise that there were not adequate protections at the time to stop those children from accessing his services and it wasnt his fault.
>>
>>154247411
The road to Cheldorado is my favorite, Mostly after cutting out the scenes that don't include Chel. She's the only good thing about the entire movie. They even have her giving head to one of the protags off camera.
They knew what they were doing.

>The only ones that applies to are El Dorado and Sinbad, and...
It's not so much their overt personalities, it's how they interact and communicate with the people around them. It's similar to how even though it's true Finn and Jake have 2 very different personalities, the writing FEELS like it's coming from a singular voice.

>You don’t remember Silver’s cyborg design, nor...
The way they animated the arm and the character acting was technically very well done, but I didn't walk away from the movie with a lasting impression. I remember watching Spirited Away around that time as a kid and No Face's design and the scene where he's chasing Chihiro down that corridor and then he's throwing up all the gold and shit. That stuck with me, when I left the theater I'd scramble up the fucking stairs like some autist mimicking that scene, treasure planet just failed to impart that same lasting appeal for (probably a bunch of) reasons..
>>
(2/2)
>>154248859
>I’m really curious why ...
Emotion wise the main characters I think failed to appeal to me as a kid in the sense that I never saw either myself or someone I could see myself close to represented. So while I could understand the characters, and feel some sympathy for their plights, it never quite 'connected'. In my experience, people who like one of these movies tend to be very fond of them all, so there may just be a kind of person these films appeal to and I'm not part of that group
Script wise they tended to feel lopsided, or focused on things I was less interested in.
> El Dorado doesn't do all that much with the Mayan set dressing, the badguy is forgetable...it relies entirely on the banter of the main trio
> Treasure planet feels a little meandering in the way it frames its set pieces, like I know we spend a good chunk for the first third building up his relationship with Silver so that there's motivation for his redemption in the final third but it's at the expense of spending a good chunk of the movie on the ship... and we spend another good chunk of the movie on Treasure Planet which honestly feels a tad underwhelming. Like on paper an artificial planetary pirate hideout sounds sick, but on the screen it felt so average.
> Atlantis similar to above, but the start and end feel a little too quick instead.
> Sinbad I'm a little fuzzy on because its the one I saw the longest time ago. (I will say though, the way Eris moves was really fun, that stuck with me)
It also doesn't help these films are pretty drab in the color script department, which as an adult isn't so bad but as a kid does render some things less magical and ""exciting"".

>>154248865
>everything else feels like an overly safe contained formula that never goes anywhere with the same beats every time
I can't think of a single 'surprising' moment in any of these films...they're all very standard scripts plotwise. It's the pacing or what the films focus on that loses me.

I don't get it. We had movie after movie with perfect art. Black cauldron, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast. That's how you draw faces. Why did you change? Why did you decide Picasso is now your favorite artist, not Miyazaki?
Atlantis was almost okay in parts, but.. it was straining, trying to be uglier.
