That said, there are only a handful of these types of posts, but that doesn't stop anons from pretending like it's his default mode of operating. Some people feel that it's unprofessional or makes the artist look bad. I personally agree that it's not a good look, though I don't find it nearly as egregious as some. Monkey Wrench does have a crew, but Zeurel does a shocking amount of the work on his own, so I think he tends to get run down.

Some people get lucky and score an internship right out of school which can provide a pathway to actual paid work, but for the rest of us shlubs volunteering on student projects or working for low rates on super low budget indies is a way to shortcut that experience/portfolio/network. And once you have a few projects under your belt, it's A LOT easier to get better paying jobs. It sucks, but the creative world is super saturated and when hiring agents can either choose to train someone on the job or hire someone who already knows what they're doing, they're usually going to go for the latter.
