Can we all agree that the best nicktoons (besides early SpongeBob, Zim and Avatar) are the first 8 Nicktoons? Doug, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Aaahh Real Monsters, Hey Arnold, Kablam and Angry Beavers represent when Nick was the best.
>>
>>154259356
Were the Rugrats (the babies) tolerable at least?
>>

Admittedly, I'm also this way in a sense about the Cartoon Network original series. I still think the best ones that are considered CN original series are Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, Powerpuff Girls, Ed Edd n Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Sheep in the Big City, Samurai Jack, Billy and Mandy, Kids Next Door and Megas XLR. Nothing after Megas really came close to matching the greatness of these shows, even if I did enjoy some that came after Megas, like the early seasons of Regular Show and I did enjoy Flapjack and Chowder. Cartoon Network just felt magical from 1992 to 2004. It will never be topped.

None of the first 8 Nicktoons were bad though. They were all amazing. It's hard to even think of a flaw for any of these shows.

There was a time when literally every single Nick show was amazing up until around I'd say 1998 or so.

Hey Dude, Pete and Pete, Clarissa, Roundhouse, Shelby Woo, Space Cases, My Brother and Me, Alex Mack, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Nick Arcade, GUTS, What Would You Do, Wild and Crazy Kids, All That, Kenan and Kel. Just a stunning variety of excellent shows.
>>
>>154260318
Rugrats was a sublime show that was a clever commentary on parenting while also being a show that sees the world through a babies perspective.
>>
>>154259356
Yeah. Fuck CatDog for bringing everything down!
>>
>>154260638
I can think of several nicktoons that were worse than CatDog. I think CatDog was the weakest nicktoon when it premiered (even then, I can probably think of atleast 10 episodes I liked quite a bit), but its a masterpiece compared to shows like The X's, Tak and the Power of Juju, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Planet Sheen, Robot and Monster, Sanjay and Craig, Breadwinners, Pig Goat Banana Cricket, Bunsen is a Beast and The Adventures of Kid Danger. Most of these i've only watched like two or three episodes of.
>>
>>154259356
agreed, but only at the first season of each series, after dill rugrats went to shit, and even late rocko was getting kinda weird.

This is more my opinion, but here's how I viewed all the Nicktoons.

The first 8 Nicktoons were amazing. Some better than others, like Rocko and Hey Arnold are the two best imo, but they're all just incredible TV.
CatDog isn't amazing or anything and I wouldn't even call it a great show, but its decent enough. It had some really good episodes every now and then. It was a disappointment, but only because pretty much every show on Nick prior to its premiere, including the live-action shows were incredible
Wild Thornberrys was very good
SpongeBob was incredible for the first three seasons, seasons 4 and 5 admittedly I don't think are that good, but season 4 did have some great episodes like Krusty Towers. I felt season 5 particularly had a lot of bad episodes. Once it got to season 6, the show sucked hard. I may not love the early seasons as much as a few other nicktoons, but I still really do love those early seasons.
Rocket Power is overhated. Was it great? No. I wouldn't even call it that good, but it was decent. A nice, chill type of show with a nice setting. It just wasn't anything too special, though I can see why it was popular back then with the extreme sports craze. A product of its time, but a decent one.
I never thought As Told By Ginger was that great. It had some really good episodes and i'll give it that. It tackled heavy topics really well, but a lot of the show just felt eh. Not very good.
Fairly OddParents was charming and likable. Pretty quotable too. I never felt like it was as amazing as the first 8 nicktoons or early SpongeBob, but it was a charming and enjoyable enough show with some amazing lines. Once they got Poof though, the show got very hit or miss with some good episodes here and there, but mostly not very good episodes. Seasons 7 and 8 were mostly bad with many characters being sidelines and by season 9, it became insufferable.
>>
>>154262120
Invader Zim was incredible and still is a top 5 nicktoon for me alongside Rocko, Hey Arnold, Ren and Stimpy and one other.
Chalkzone I was massively disappointed by. I was expecting either a super wacky Looney Tunes-y slapstick cartoon or a wacky stylized Powerpuff Girls-style show. Instead, I got a laid back comedy cartoon that just felt rather forgettable. It's not bad, but its nothing special.
Jimmy Neutron I hate to admit, I never found that great. The first season felt rather repetitive and compared to early Fairly OddParents and especially Dexter's Laboratory, it always felt generic. I never really liked Sheen either, always felt he was annoying. The only character I found charming was Hugh and maybe Carl. Everyone else just felt like the most bland stock archetypes. It's a very 5/10 show.
My Life as a Teenage Robot disappointed me because I was expecting a show on the level of greatness as Dexter and Powerpuff, but a lot of it just felt very boring, with several segments feeling rather low stakes. I get that it's a comedy, but Powerpuff was too and it was a lot more exciting and fun. The only thing I particularly liked about the show was the visual art style. The backgrounds and designs were incredible.
All Grown Up is just a generic sitcom. Nothing more and nothing less.
Danny Phantom is a generic Spider-Man meets Ghostbusters type of show. I never understood the fascination about it.
Finally! a good one. Avatar: The Last Airbender is my favorite nicktoon ever made. Everything about it is incredible and it's bizarre how a show this good came out of Nick past Invader Zim.
Catscratch was alright. Admittedly, I did prefer it over many of the nicktoons of the earlier 2000s aside from Zim and Avatar, but it still wasn't that special. It was just okay. Nothing more and nothing less.
The X's sucked. Just boring, forgettable trash.
>>
>>154262204
El Tigre was meh. I loved the mexican influence and its attention to mexican culture, but the characters I never really liked that much. It was the best nicktoon of the late 2000s, but that's not saying much.
Tak and the Power of Juju sucked.
I never really understood the appeal of Back at the Barnyard. It always felt like an incredibly stupid cartoon.
The only thing I liked about Mighty B is that aside from Puffy AmiYumi, this is the only one with a female as the main lead (rather than co-lead) that is very cartoony and exaggerated. Aside from that, I never really liked it. I found Bessie annoying.
Penguins of Madagascar is nothing special and never really understood the appeal of it. I liked the penguins in Madagascar and felt they were the only good thing in the film, but they never really worked as main characters for a show for me.
Fanboy and Chum Chum is a contender for the worst nicktoon ever made.
Planet Sheen is also a contender for the worst nicktoon. It took a character I already didn't like and made him even worse.
Tuff Puppy is just a generic spy comedy with the same generic Butch Hartman humor.
Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness is a mediocre show based on a very good franchise (well, the first two movies were good, everything after that sucked).
>>
>>154262234
Legend of Korra was garbage for the first two seasons. It just wasn't good. The last two seasons were very good, but it never lived up to the amazingness of The Last Airbender.
Robot and Monster is forgettable trash.
Hate to say that I didn't like the 2012 TMNT very much. The anime-ness of it got on my nerves (aside from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teen Titans, it always felt cringy to me whenever non-anime shows did anime style gags) and I didn't like the CGI animation. The 1987 and 2003 TMNT series were way better.
Monsters vs. Aliens is a crappy show based on a crappy movie.
Sanjay and Craig sucks hard. It's just gross-out humor.
Breadwinners is a terrible show that's trying too hard to appeal to the Internet crowd.
Harvey Beaks is okay. I never loved it, but its a nice and cute enough show. I just never liked it too much, but I don't have anything against it.
Pig Goat Banana Cricket is awful. It's just gross humor.
The Loud House sucks. I never understood the appeal. It was gross and it just had this annoying feel about it.
Bunsen is a Beast is abysmal. It's up there with Breadwinners, Fanboy and Chum Chum, Planet Sheen and Sanjay and Craig as the worst nicktoon ever.
Welcome to the Wayne is a boring show with a promising premise.

Also, for most of these shows, i've only watched anywhere between 2 to 6 episodes, because I have better things to do with my time besides watching this stuff. The only one i've watched more than 6 episodes of is Korra, which I watched the entirety of.
>>
>>154259383
The first season of Rugrats is legitimately good. There's a real focus on using unique perspectives and concepts to show the world as a baby would see it. The pilot is particularly impressive in this regard.
>>
>>154262300
Kid Danger is an abysmal spinoff of a crappy Dan Schneider show.
Rise of the TMNT is also pretty bad. It desperately wants to be the 1987 show in how its a comedy, but it fails.

I haven't watched anything afterwards, except for the Rugrats reboot, which is garbage. I tried Faitly OddParents: A New Wish as well, but that wasn't very good either.

Honestly, once it gets to the 2000s, the only ones that are at the very least decent (basically better than just okay/just alright) are early Fairly OddParents, Invader Zim and Avatar: The Last Airbender. That's very pathetic.

As for the live-action shows, once it gets to 1998, they all become garbage. Shows like Clarissa and Pete and Pete didn't talk down to kids, but stuff like Drake and Josh and iCarly always felt insufferable to watch.
>>
>>154262353
and now for the top 15 best Nicktoons ever made.

15.Rocket Power (and even then, its just a 6/10 show. It's decent)
14.CatDog
13.The Wild Thornberrys
12.Fairly OddParents (seasons 1-5)
11.Aaahh Real Monsters
10.Doug
9.KaBlam!
8.SpongeBob SquarePants (seasons 1-3)
7.Rugrats
6.The Angry Beavers
5.The Ren and Stimpy Show
4.Hey Arnold!
3.Invader Zim
2.Rocko's Modern Life
1.Avatar: The Last Airbender

Legend of Korra has some really good stuff, but the first two seasons were so bad it doesn't deserve to be on a top 15 best list.

When it came to Cartoon Network original series.

Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Powerpuff Girls, and Ed Edd n Eddy: Amazing. They're all masterpieces. I particularly adore Dexter, Johnny Bravo and Powerpuff.
Mike Lu and Og: This was the first one I didn't like that much. I didn't really care for the characters.
Courage the Cowardly Dog: This was outstanding. One of Cartoon Network's best.
Sheep in the Big City: I don't get why this didn't catch on. This was such a fantastic show. I loved it so much.
Time Squad: This was a great show that should've gotten more attention.
Samurai Jack: Cartoon Network's best show ever made. Every episode was incredible, which was why I was so disappointed by the season 5 revival. I only liked the first 2 episodes for season 5.
>>
>>154262473
Billy and Mandy: This was a fantastic show. It cracked me up so much.
Evil Con Carne: Not as great as Billy and Mandy, but I felt this was also a great show.
Robot Jones: I thought this was a great show. It had a phenomenal 70s aesthetic to it that I loved.
Codename Kids Next Door: One of the last truly great Cartoon Network shows. I loved the creativity and imagination for this one.
Star Wars Clone Wars (2003): This was incredible. Way better than the 2008 one easily.
Megas XLR: This was the last truly great Cartoon Network original. The comedy and action were basically perfect in this one.
Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends: This was a massive disappointment. I actually really liked the early episodes for this show. It was setting itself up to be a really charming and fun show. That all went out the window when it became just Bloo being annoying for 22 minutes. The worst Cartoon Network original series up to this point aside from Mike Lu and Og.
Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: This show was just generic trash. I never liked how desperate it wanted to be like an anime with all the anime gags. There's way better comedy anime out there like Nichijou.
Juniper Lee is forgettable and dull. I only ever watched the first 3 episodes when it came out because it was such a slog.
Camp Lazlo sucks. It is such a disappointment,. I always compare it to Rocko and when you have Rocko, there's just no reason to watch Lazlo when Rocko does what it does way better. Lazlo is just watered down Rocko.
My Gym Partner's a Monkey is garbage.
Ben 10 is just a generic action show.
Squirrel Boy is dull trash.
Class of 3000. Okay, this one I actually liked. I found it charming, very likable and entertaining, even if it was nowhere near as good as the stuff from Dexter's Lab to Megas XLR.
Out of Jimmy's Head: Fucking garbage!
Chowder: I enjoyed this show, particularly the first season. After season 1, it was still decent enough, but I feel season 1 was when it was quite good.
>>
>>154262604
Ben 10: Alien Force: I gave it a chance for 3 episodes because of the more serious tone. It sucked and I haven't seen any of the other Ben 10 shows. Why should I even waste my time?
Flapjack: I enjoyed it. I think it was more consistent than Chowder. Just like Chowder, it wasn't as good as the Cartoon Cartoon stuff, but still good.
Secret Saturdays: It was meh
Adventure Time: I enjoyed the first few seasons, but it lost me when the show started getting into romance drama.
Generator Rex: This wasn't very good. I watched the first 2 episodes and that was enough.
Regular Show: I enjoyed the first 2 or 3 seasons, but I stopped watching when it got into the romance drama bullshit.
Sym-Bionic Titan: If I had to choose a favorite show since Megas, it would be this one. I really enjoyed it, but unfortunately it got the can quick.
Robotomy: I watched the first two episodes and it sucked.
The Problem Solverz: I never watched it because I hated the art style
The Amazing World of Gumball: I never understood the hype. I watched the first 3 episodes of season 1 and then dropped it because I thought it sucked. Then I watched some random later episodes and they were better, but still mediocre.
Secret Mountain Fort Awesome: Two episodes were enough for me to drop it. It sucked.
Uncle Grandpa: This show sucked. I watched the first two episodes and it was just stupid.
Steven Universe: I watched the first 3 half hours worth of episodes and it was so boring and dull. I dropped it instantly.
Clarence: This is also a boring show. I watched the first two half hours worth and they were so boring.
We Bare Bears: Also a really boring show. Only watched the first two half hours worth as well.
Powerpuff Girls 2016: One half hour was enough for me to drop it. So soulless.
OK KO: Let's Be Heroes: This is just an annoying show.
Craig of the Creek: This was just boring. I only watched one half hour worth and it didn't make me want to continue.

Top 15 Cartoon Network shows time. Won't be including Star Wars Clone Wars 2003 because its basically short episodes, but it would be number 5 on the list. Also, forgot to say my thoughts on Transformers Animated, which is that it's a bad show and nowhere near as good as the epicness that was Beast Wars back in the 90s.

Top 15 time.

15.I Am Weasel
14.Time Squad
13.Whatever Happened to...Robot Jones?
12.Evil Con Carne
11.Codename: Kids Next Door
10.The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
9.Cow and Chicken
8.Ed Edd n Eddy
7.Sheep in the Big City
6.Johnny Bravo
5.Dexter's Laboratory

>>

Atleast Doug is better than boring shit like We Bare Bears, Clarence and Craig of the Creek. Doug may not be as great as Hey Arnold, but it's still an amazing show and an example on how everything on Nickelodeon around 1989 to 1997 was amazing.

Twilight, the hunger games, and frozen were all super popular at a time and they all sucked ass too, your point?

Why doesn't everyone on /co/ agree that the 90s was the best time for Nick (atleast 1990-1997)? That was an outstanding time and there were many YouTube videos and Facebook posts and people on Twitter back in 2011 saying the same thing.

Rugrats was a show that appealed to both kids and parents though. Unlike some other popular shit. It had the babies for the kids and the parents for the adults. It commented on how stressful being a parent can be.

It's a lot better than Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom. Those are examples of very popular shows that sucked.
>>
>>154264159
It's so boring though. Nothing happens in the show. I watched the first two half hours worth, like four segments and I could tell it sucked just from those.

Here are all the bad or mediocre Nick shows out there. While SpongeBob and Fairly OddParents got really bad later on, they were initially good, so they won't be included.

>As Told By Ginger
>Chalkzone
>Jimmy Neutron
>My Life as a Teenage Robot
>All Grown Up
>Danny Phantom
>Catscratch
>The X's
>El Tigre
>Tak and the Power of Juju
>Back at the Barnyard
>The Mighty B
>Penguins of Madagascar
>Fanboy and Chum Chum
>Planet Sheen
>Tuff Puppy
>Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness
>Legend of Korra (first two seasons being so shitty isn't worth the last two seasons even though they were good)
>Robot and Monster
>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012
>Monsters vs Aliens
>Sanjay and Craig
>Breadwinners
>Harvey Beaks
>Pig Goat Banana Cricket
>The Loud House
>Bunsen is a Beast
>Welcome to the Wayne
>The Adventures of Kid Danger
>Rise of the TMNT

and probably everything else afterwards. The Rugrats reboot sucked ass and I didn't like Fairly OddParents: A New Wish.
>>
>>154264279
This is bait. Rocko's Modern Life was a flawless masterpiece. Wacky Deli is one of the best episodes for a kids show ever made because of its critique on the animation industry.
>>
>>154264296
Also, CatDog and Rocket Power did have some medicore episodes, but they had enough good episodes to stay afloat as decent cartoons. I'm not saying they're good, they're just decent.
>>
>>154264239
How is that a skill issue? I know when a show is good even just by only watching two half hours or three. My rule is anywhere between 2 to 6, sometimes even just one half hour. I can tell when a show sucks.

It's severely underrated. Most anons who criticize it watched like 2 episodes in the 1st season and assumed the entire show was trying to cash in on the X-Games hype. While that may have been what the execs were hoping for when they ordered it, the actual show is just a slice of life show about a bunch of kids who play outside. Sometimes they skateboard or surf or whatever, but most of the episodes have nothing to do with competing. It's just a fun show about kids being kids.
It's a good comfy summer watch.
