Still, I literally did not think about him at all compared to the rest of the characters until the show became about him and I had to pay attention to him then I laughed at his death because of how overkill and humiliating it was on top of how hard Goose was self-inserting with it. My analysis is Jax was sort of meant to be boring while talking big about being some heartless villain then his actual bad actions were either tame or just down to earth bad enough that you have a more realistic reaction and thus get angrier by it before he dies than when the bad guy that later gets redeemed does something worse like blow up a planet or in TADC's case, tortures and mindbreaks a rotating cast of characters like Caine did because the realistic bad guy didn't want to change while the cartoony one did. Jax is what the kids would call a potential man, but played straight and the story is self-aware about it.
