I have heard for decades this show was top-shelf for 90s cartoons but when it was airing we didn't get the Disney Channel so I never had a chance to watch this. What are your thoughts? Have you seen it lately? Does it hold up?
>>154265868It's good. Watch the show.
>>154265868Huh? I watched it weekdays after school on Fox. https://youtu.be/SciutmNKt3I?is=RtFZxuGQiQTGsTso
>>154265868Good shit, don't watch season three.
>>154265868It’s bad ass. Peak Disney Agternoon. In 1994-1995 I looked forward to watching it every Friday. Then in 1995-1996 it went to air 5 days a week.
>>154265868How did they get so many Star Trek alumni as voice actors? Was the casting director a Trekkie?
>>154266647>deleted, presumably for having objectively wrong opinionskek
>>154265868I finished the whole thing a week ago. The first two seasons are a real high point of American animation writing, the last one is by a different creative team and you can tell they weren't up to the task.
>>154267177That is some /v/-grade contrarian posting.
>>154265868I rewatched it last year. Some of the plot twists got spoiled to me a long time ago, but other than that, it holds up very well. I've been meaning to catch up on the follow-up comics and apparently the older ones are going into retail very soon.
>>154266316Sort of. They cast Frakes and Sirtis by pure coincidence. When they needed Coldstone's voice, they recommended Michael Dorn. And then after that, the TNG cast started talking to each other about how fun it was to work on Gargoyles as a bonus gig and convinced the director to cast other Star Trek people in minor roles.
>>154265868it doesn't just hold up. it fucking... carries 'up' on its back and sprints for miles.>>154266199or, do watch it, to laugh, because it's bad fanfiction. Like ludicrously bad.>>154268111yep! they even offered to talk to Sir Pat, after his agent asked for too much money, but Greg was wary of mixing business with friendship like that. How was he to know Pat LOVES doing voiceover? Patstew didn't even know that himself yet.
>>154267539you can tell he's just been abused by shitty abusive women his whole life (I get it) and has decided to obsess over how they never get comeuppancelike they literally wrote her immortal for a reason. Because otherwise someone would have taken her out by now. They not only made her deserving of death, they made her responsible for a criminally irresponsible group of hunters that have been chasing her down for centuries. She's so bad she's practically radioactive. That is not a pro-woman thing. God knows Greg would never write a character like that now.
>>154267719hopefully with the pages in order this timei have zero hope for the new comics, greg's clearly gone off the deep end, but I guess if they make any more, I'll read em.
>>154265868It's very good, but nowhere near as good as it's lapped up to be.
>>154268177>God knows Greg would never write a character like that now.I mean, he's STILL writing her like that in the comics. Demona's equal parts vile and pitiful. I hate to go full "they don't make them like this anymore" boomer, but it's true of Demona. A remake would make her a misunderstood anti-hero.
>>154268989Uhhe just got done doing a miniseries trying to make her sympathetic and give her a girlfriend. that's the last of the new comics that i'm aware of, unless more's been done.
>>154269027The girlfriend barely even lasted. It was another example of Demona refusing to get close to anyone and how that hardened her as a person over time. Even her adopted daughter wasn't enough, as she reverted into her hatred of humans after she died. It also makes her stealing Katana's egg all the more fucked up, since she knew and cared for Katana, yet refused to be a mother figure to her when she offered, and now she's come back hundreds of years later to steal her egg and raise the babe to hate humans as much as she does.
>>154269121If you say so, Anon. I couldn't get through it, it stank.
>>154269027There were a few crossovers. A couple of Fantastic Four ones and a Darkwing Duck mini-series. Oh and Broadway got a one-shot tale too.
>>154269543do I need to explain why I'm not including those?>broadway one-shotoh okay I should check that out.
>>154265868I want to drink Brooklyn's cum
>>154269600>>154269543fuckyou meant Bronx, didn't you. I saw that.
>>154269615There's two winter specials. Bronx is the lead in the first one and he shows up in the second one, but Broadway's the actual lead in that one.
I wish it was available to watch in Poland.I swear, Disney goes out of its way NOT to release it in Poland, to the point it's not even available on streaming.
>>154270306Huh, confusing. Bronx is on the cover of both. Well thanks, I'll make sure I've seen them both, though I think I have.
>>154270315fuckin disney.
>>154265868Some of it's animation scenes were made very well and mostly fun to watch them.
>>154270333"Dumb poles" jokes have their origins in early 20th century Polish immigrants to the US. Basically, they literally weren't sending their best and brightest back in the day, it was boatloads of dumbasses with no skills or anything that would have landed them a job back home.
>>154265868Watch seasons 1 and 2. Avoid season 3. The crew changed and the episodes were about moral fagging and muh racism.
>>154265868yeah, many agree Gargoyles holds up those who remember it exists at least
>>154271222Just be prepared for a lot of backdoor pilots that go nowhere in Season 2.
>>154271222That season was done by the X-Men: TAS showrunners.
>>154268150I think Pat Stew did voice Pagemaster by then.
>>154265868Basically this and Batman tas were imo were the two best animated series of the 90's.Great writing.Great animation (most times)Great characters and character arcs.Overall just an amazing series. The final season sucks (the Goliath Chronicles) so its best to avoid this season.
>>154270434"Dumb Poles" was commie propaganda against Poles who hated communism because of what it did to their country.
I actually liked the World Tour arc, that seems to be an unpopular opinion around here but I thought it was an admirable attempt from Disney to essentially form their own comic book universe
My thoughts are how much I want too fuck human Demona with her business suit
>>154272203That explains a lot in hindsight.
>>154271222Well it was on ABC Saturday mornings by then and more tighter regulations rather than syndication weekday afternoons.
>>154272316That's bullshit, but I believe it
>>154274144https://web.archive.org/web/20120122025419/http://cosmopolitanreview.com/articles/41-reviews/331-hollywoods-war-with-poland
>>154274230Neat, wasn't aware of the negative portrayal in films of the era. Seems like it wasn't a lot of moviesThough calling it 'commie propaganda' is maybe a bit misleading when it says:>The most important reason why Poland and Poles were absent from these screenplays or portrayed as inconsequential, reactionary, incompetent, and ugly was of geopolitical nature. After 1941, the Soviet Union became a crucial war ally of America and its movie industry and administration wanted to be friendly towards the SovietsThe film industry in those years was heavily controlled by the US government. Things like that were steered by government appointees. It's less "commie propaganda" and more "pro-commie US propaganda."Also,>1939-1945Dumb pole jokes go back to the turn of the century, and were absolutely about immigrants. We're talking 1890-1920-ish.
>>154271222It was always going to lead to that, but at least Weisman portrays the KKK analogue as a fringe gang and not literal supervillains.
>>154270434that makes a lot of sense actually. there's different kinds of immigration. sometimes a bad government sends you the smartest from the country since they were bright enough to see the writing on the wall and leave. sometimes it just sends you the dregs, or the victims/refugees.
>>154272265oh yeahbut that was theatrical. and anyway it bombed.>>154274405same thing. also yeah that is fascinating.>>154272333it was just poorly paced, which was 1000% Disney's fault.
>>154275304it really is the epitome of bottom of the barrel saturday morning cartoon writing to have your villains go>THOSE GARGOYLES ARE EVIL! let's set up a fake rescue situation, playing a recording of people screaming and calling for help, then those EVIL gargoyles will come try to save them, and we'll finally rid the world of their evil!or that one time>there's this ludicrously goody good Gandhi-ass guy trying to do a peace conference, let's brainwash a gargoyle (who would normally protect the guy) into assassinating him, and that way everyone will see how bad they are!
>>154265868Excellent stuff. Xanatos, Macbeth, and the fae are incredible antagonists, but season 3 was such a massive change that it was basically a different show.
I AM THROUGH PLAYING GAMES MORTALI WILL NOTBEDENIED
>>154277788>On my daughter's life, I swear I will hunt them down… and I will kill them
>>154276981Yeah, it was a combination of Disney ordering a shit-ton of episodes at once without changing the production cycle and Eisner wanting to do a superhero universe to rival Marvel’s after they didn’t buy Marvel.

>>154284021>Green KnightWho’s getting be-headed in this one?
>>154265868The theme song still slaps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xGeSso_45YI have always loved the way they synched the beats with Goliath climbing up the side of the building by just ramming his claws into solid stone.
>>154285627banger
>>154285627When rewatching the show, I forgot that the Goliath narration wasn't a thing until season 2.
>>154265868s'pretty good yeah. I'm a little surprised it even got made honestly.
Main chick was pretty hot
>>154288304Why're you surprised?
>>154265868goated action cartoon
