>the thundercats toyline ended in 1987 while the cartoon lasted until 1989What the fuck? Ive never heard of a 80s cartoon lasting longer than the toyline it was made to promote. If anything it was usually the toyline that lasted several years after the respective animated show ended. What the fuck happened?
Tmnt happened
>>154269103The Thundercats toys were kind of dogshit, even compared with toys of the day.
>>154269103The comic and video game probably helped
>>154269574Oh that makes sense>>154269631How come?
Unlike many 80s shows that were greenlit directly as commercials for toys, the animated series was actually developed before the toy line was finalized.
>>154271644Imagine taking those toys and cumming on cheetaras tits i meant sticking ym dick into her cleavage i mean fucking and manhadiling cat tits i mean-
>>154271644Cheetiddytara
>>154269103The ratings where probably good enough too keep it in the air.
>>154271474The molds they use to make figures are expensive. Toy companies had to choose between 2-3 good molds or 12 shitty ones. Masters of the Universe reused He-man and Skeletor's bodies for half the figures they made which kept costs down and profits up cause they were good designs with a good play feature. Thundercats had original molds for almost all the characters but also had only 3-5 points of articulation and plus their play feature was that their eyes light up. If I remember correctly gi joe figures were loss leaders cause they roped kids into buy vehicles which was where the real money was at.
>>154273050That doesn't say how they were "shit" figures, however. I never heard anyone say the thundercats toys sucked quality wise. If anything ive always heard how they were really good toys but were prohibitively more expensive at the time compared to other action figures and that was their downfall. I got a vultureman figure from the 80s last night and hes supremely well sculpted and his action feature still works.
>>154273050>>154273127While they're cool, particularly Panthro, the difference is scale for some is kinda weird. Tygra is kinda tiny compared to Lion-O and Panthro. The villains are more or less on scale.
>>154273127You're looking at it from an adult's perspective. My brother and my cousins were all 10 years older than me so I had all their hand me down Motu, Thundercats, tmnt stuff. I liked the cartoon but I definitely thought the toys looked cheaper.
>>154273603I cant understand that though. Even as a kid i had a string appreciation for detailed sculpts. I can get thinking TMNT were better but while i love MOTU a heck of alot more then thundercats, the thundercats toys seem alot more higher quality to me. Any particular reason you though they felt cheap to you back then?
>>154273127Thundercats were a larger size than Star Wars and GI Joe, larger even than Masters of the Universe and TMNT, but it was still a line with vehicles and playsets, which tended to be a lot more expensive in lines with larger figures.
>>154271644This, Thundercats simply wasn't an IP a toy company came up and made a show around, but an IP that got marketed for toys. Rights ownership for Thundercats is sort of a web of mergers and acquisitions. I'd also argue that Thundercats comes just after the big cycle of toy-tie in cartoons and was the start of late 80's shows which may have had toylines but were less tied into them.
