They should have just had the main cover for this milestone be done by Alex Ross
>>
Should've been Todd McFarlane or Mark Bagley. They're the two most important living historical Spider-man artists.
The smartest thing would've been to ask John Romita Sr. before he started getting sick and unable to draw to have something in the wings.
I get having Romita Jr, he's the one living important artist on the title with the most longetivity(is there anyone else from the 60's/70's who was notable who was still alive? Guys like Andru and Kane were already old by then), but JrJr does not do layouts or planning the way he should anymore. Ironic because that used to be his best skill. Paolo Rivera should've done the layout or something .

Are Mac and Bag not even doing a variant? Hell you could probably bring in Larsen if you wanted to. They should have been working on this a long time ago to get other artist.

I know we have had the loud and proud bigshot puffery since Stan the Man, but in light of our second secret cousin plot, come the fuck on.

I mean then, current and continuing state of managed decline yeah I would Spidey.

The outrage on Twitter right now over people not liking the cover seems forced. I don't even blame JRJR for that cover, that's really an editorial issue, and the twits complaining about "bad fans" is fucking stupid when they let the actual problem get sidestepped

>>154304262
There's no way McFarlane was gonna do a cover. I know he did a few within the last 30 years, but:
>Hero Initiative cover was for a charity with his stipulation it wouldn't get reprinted, even in the Hero Initative book collecting all the cover
>Overstreet cover was for Overstreet and still had Spawn on it, not just Spider-Man alone
>Marvel Team-Up variant had Invincible and a Spawn reference and was published through Skybound rather than Marvel

Am I the only one that unironically thinks the larazz one is worse?

>>154306883
Only like 12 vocal people disliked it though.
>>
>>154307031
I don't see the problem with Larazz' work here.
>>
>>154303875
The only thing wrong with Jr Jr's cover is that the posing is awkward. It's a boring pose, sure, not issue 1,000 worthy, but it jsut feels like people are meming the shrug way too much.
No one really brought a composition worthy of 1,000 though, all just poster pin-ups.
>>
There are a matching thousand more pressing and damning issues about the coming issue #1000 than whatever the cover art was. Speculators are slop eaters by trade, draw a stick figure for all it matters, the content is full of largely those under whose editorial regime responsible for why ASM has slipped its crown.

JRJR's composition is fine with the right colours

The meme shrug perfectly encapsulate the mood around this milestone. No one cares. It's unintentionally a perfect cover.
>>
>>154307297
That's why I blame it way more on editorial than I would on him

>greatest creative minds on earth

fucking kek
>>
>>154307297
The shrug, while anatomically accurate, just doesn't look impressive or heroic. There's a reason you play with angles or go as far to mess up anatomy for these angles for the sake of composition.
Paolo Rivera is great but it indeed isn't the right choice here, so much rendering on a pretty unimpressive pose and composition just emphasizes how silly it looks.

First one looks like one of those "who would win" memes with the same pic mirrored in the middle.

Who cares. And if that's really a problem, use picrel instead. Finally publish correctly this actual masterpiece

lol I said the same thing in the first thread where the cover was posted
>>

The Larraz, while serviceable, looks the same as any other cover he's done.
>>
>>154307031
Kek, didn't finish completing my previous message before posting. Larraz cover is average with no risks, and while I initially didn't like JRJR's cover, it's been growing on me. I admire the fact that he took a risk and rather than submit his pencils, delivered a full on painted piece. His color palette is actually pretty nice and it reminds me of the kind of stuff Marvel was doing in the 80's-90's. Imo it fits the milestone issue much better than Larraz's house-style.
Since others mention Alex Ross, another alternative could've been having him paint over other artists pencils, sort of like how he did with Jim Lee once or Quesada, those look excellent and I'm sure he's done many a few more though none come to mind atm. Maybe have him paint over Badgley, Larsen, Mcfarland, or even JRJR (or hell, it also would've been nice getting a jam piece by all notable living Spidey artists and have Ross paint over them)

>rather than submit his pencils, delivered a full on painted piece.
Really? The cover also credits Paolo Rivera
>>
>>154311025
I'm an idiot, did not see Paolo's name credited haha
I still think it's a better piece than the Larraz one. Imo painted covers always stand out more due to nostalgia but Larraz is a hot artist and I'm sure Marvel got cold feet seeing the reaction to JRJR/Paolo, which is a shame

>but JrJr does not do layouts or planning the way he should anymore. Ironic because that used to be his best skill.
Thank God someone else gets it
>>

This cover honestly still holds up. I love how Ditko actually made his cities look busy. I don’t think people appreciate how tangible Ditko made Spider-man from the jump, like anyone who’s played the games since the 3D era or watched the movies knows how this swing feels.
Meanwhile it took a while to figure out how to best bring his Superman flies into reality, or how Batman would move through the city.

Not really. It still looks like he tries to pull of front and from bellow angle at the same time.
>>
>>154303875
Or by that R.B. Silva.
>>
>>154307297
Nah, the pose looks wonky. Super stiff, weird shoulders and arms.
>>
>>154303875
I've always found JRs art to be incredibly ugly and annoying to look at. Especially when you have so many artists who are able to capture Spidey in much more dynamic and striking ways

Even Spider-Man is shrugging at his own anniversary issue
>>
It's the perfect pose for this era of Spider-Man as it stands.
We are all, waiting collectively, for this withered crop of has-beens to leave.
