Indeed, it’s a bit of a plot hole that him and Katara aren’t found out more often when they “disguise” themselves. Even ignorant folks who know nothing of substance about the Water Tribe, like the fishing town, should be able to know on sight that the two are different. Why wouldn’t an educated nobleman, like Master Piandao, know off the bat what his heritage is?
