Why were manga and comic books back in the day more stylistically similar in terms of art styles employed and illustration techniques used compared to the post-2000 scene for either industries?

Tsukasa Hojo didn't have much western influences on his drawing style AFAIK but he's probably the closest japanese equivalent to John Byrne stylistically

But they weren't? Hokuto no ken still uses a lot of paneling and techniques that predominant in manga(and european comics) as well and Hokuto no ken is 1 fucking manga, do you know what other manga were published in SJ at the same time? High School! Kimengumi, Saint Seiya and Dragon Ball. Why do people like you take 1 example and think they've figured it all out.
