what in the fuck was that?
>>154344719>be Horvath>small-time comic writer>get an idea for a comic based of an old nursery rhyme and a drawing of a bloody cartoon bear>flesh it out into a full series>series is meet with overwhelming popularity, more than a small-time creator like yourself has ever known>make another mystery horror series>is largely unknown and doesn't do nearly as well as the murder bear story>go back to making stories about the murder bear, the success is too good not ride>want to pad out the murder bear story for more issues, artistic integrity be damned>alienate your audience with a nonsensical ending that only exist so you can milk your cash cow dry>motherfucking ceiling shotguns
>>154344719unneccessary sequel that stinky
>>154344719Creator found gold in a story about a Serial Killer Bear pulling a Dexter and knew that by killing her off there would be no more bags of cash Beneath the Trees, so he writes some bombastic bullshit where the Bear guns down the entire police department with ceiling shotguns and sets the whole town on fireGetting away with all of it even though realistically she'd be on the FBI's most wanted for being able to pull a stunt like that off and escaping. This series is suppose to be a grounded setting where the people are animals
>>154345097To be fair, we don't know how much longer she was free. Wouldn't be a stretch if the third part isn't even about her.
>>154345097>>154345127To be really fair, if this is set in a cartoon storyboard type world where there are lots of these idyllic towns, one might question just how high up it goes. Surely they have a Washington and a President, but a serial killer wiping out a town could also be treated like a myth of a monster. Like, if someone did this to Franklin's or Little Bear's town, how far would the news travel and what would be done about it?But I know I'm giving him too much credit since they have a big city nearby and everything has progressed to be modern like in the real world.
>>154345217>Like, if someone did this to Franklin's or Little Bear's town, how far would the news travel and what would be done about it?Very little.
Also, I think the author always treated Samantha as if she's just so much more aware of reality than the rest of them, and that helped justify her competency in tricking them and ultimately getting away with it all. Almost like she realizes they're in a cutesy storybook, and she's just redpilled enough to know how these juvenile townsfolk will act, including the police.Buuuuuuuut he also never really leaned heavily into that. There are some bumbling characters, sure, but once they realized there was a killer, everyone smartened up real quick with the security and the not being out at night and everything. And obviously the city folk are sharper.
>>154345217There were also enough eyewitnesses. Our Bear already almost got caught the first time and now with enough people who survived you can reasonably assume they would have reconsidered that maybe Nigel was a patsy of sorts
>>154344883>alienate your audience with a nonsensical ending that only exist so you can milk your cash cow dryReminds me of another standalone comic with a perfect ending that also spitefully ruined its sequel's main premise...
>>154344883I'm mad because there was so much potential in Sam having to navigate a changing world with more surveillance and awareness, to end it like a fucking action movie was retarded.
