I plan to bring back 2d animation, but how can I do that? I'm currently just a animation student with no connections. I want to bring people together to make beautiful 2d films but it is out of my capacity to fund them and I'm not yet talented enough to make animations on the level of past animators (though I'm trying to learn to do that and paid for a class in July). Is there any other steps I should be taking right now to acheive this goal? I hate sitting around watching things get all bad and I want to help make things better in the world of animation somehow
>>
Your post is retarded. You cannot bring back what never went away.
>>
>>154363186
Okay, let me rephrase that.
What I mean to say is I want more 2d films to be made, and I want them made like they were in the past. I don't want 2d animation to exist in "limited capacity" where the only people doing it are students and people trying to make all the same-y indie pilots.
How can someone like me achieve making a film or... shaking things up in a way that more people would be interested in making 2d films? Is it possible?

With money.
>>
>>154363121
Step 1: Get a lot of money. Like, a lot of money. Like, your dad is the founder of a massive international company money.
Step 2: Do literally whatever the fuck you want.

This is a good question OP. It may be best to start with the fundamentals.

as an animation graduate, you basically need people who are willing to animate 2D and can take criticism. The thing about the oldheads is that they were all crammed in small studios and areas and were able to constantly show each other their work and ask for critiques. Getting the latter half in animators today is whats making them not improve because everyone thinks theyre the mc of the animation industry

but also money.
everyone is hoping the project theyre working on is going to be profitable even the most passionate of 2d animators. SO you need to have a strong idea and not some bullshitty blog post turned short animated film.

I definitely get that impression with the number of newer animation reels or student films that go all out with stylization but definitely don't seem like the animator in question would be able to adapt between different 2D styles and maintain proper form and construction. It's an actual miracle that projects like Fixed or Klaus made it through production, and those were largely carried by veterans.

First and foremost, find a good writer and with an older mentality.
>>
>>154363121
Unfortunately you alone won't have the power to change that, but if you hang around people like Pete Browngardt long enough, there might be a chance for you after all.

Someone needs to get the guy bankrolling Laika to fund a traditional animated film.

There still are 2d animated movies made by either japan or europe. Just look at cartoon saloon for example.

Well, I am not an European animator and I'm not about to move to there

30 billion should do it for 200 films.
The average 2D animated movie nowadays is 150 million dollars.

sounds expensive

You need literal fuck you money if you wanna do that.

My friend asked me what I'd do if I had fuck you money and I told him I'd start up an animation studio and try and bring as many big name people into it or at least tell them about so it could spread.

Assuming you're a U.S. student, it'll be a long, looooong road, but if you stay committed and hone your craft, build connections with the right people, and prove you can make quality work with limited resources, you just might break that anti-2D barrier.

Klaus is always brought up, but the Green Street Pictures guys are another recent example of artists who put in the hours and had to really prove themselves before getting to where they're at. Getting in contact with the King of the Hill creators really gave them a leg up with Common Side Effects that was missing when they made Scavengers Reign all on their own, and now they now have THREE different shows in production and are hoping to get a movie picked up in the future: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/articles/green-street-pictures-brought-together-170000920.html

Really inspiring stuff. Feature-quality 2D animation ain't dead.

What needs to be in place by the time you are qualified to do that? Focus on making that happen where you can.
