I'd like to think it's something that could be easily solved, if not through mutant powers Hank, Forge, Iron-man etc etc, could just build him leg braces or some such. But being wheelchair bound and still the 'leader' of the X-men and this important global figure is a good lesson for young mutants. Your powers aren't going to solve all your problems and what hardships you do face aren't the end all be all. If you persevere you can still make a meaningful impact on the world and live a fulfilling life. It seems like it'd be a choice for Xavier. Otherwise imagine being the kid whos power limits their mobility and seeing mutant MLK hop out of his wheelchair and call it a skill issue.
