Eventually you find out the cast had built a new, better Circus on a better and more stable machine which allowed them to make a much nicer world for themselves and gave them direct access to the internet, hoping it would provide the tools needed to reverse abstraction. And did leave behind the means to follow them, but the NPCs left behind have been jealously guarding the means to do so as they could not come with the cast due to their ancient code being incompatible with the new Circus framework.
