Good morning, grandpa. Happy Fourth of July. Hmm? That's not for another week? Well, my calendar is the newspaper comics page.

>>154429583Thread is early today (way early actually, though the Digital Circus spam isn't as evasive as last week's thread, which at least lasted till Monday morning despite the surge of Jax threads).>>154429795Curtis ran an anti-AI arc in the dailies, and I had to say, I think I found my third new reaction meme from the dailies of 2026 (especially the last panel here) Interestingly enough, I found this comic on Google one day before it premiered on newspapers (this comic came out on June 25th. I found it on June 24th through Google!)BTW: "The perfect boyfriend" Michelle genned is actually Curtis himself. Plot twist, I know.

>>154430183what a woman
>>154430061I like this story arc, but I have a complaint, the lack of Popeye. I'm not upset that Oly is the main protagonist; other characters have taken the lead in previous arcs. However, it feels like Popeye either shouldn't have been included in this story at all or should have reached the island by now. This is Part 17, and he's still sailing there. I was really looking forward to seeing him interact with the other forgotten comic strip characters.
hey hey, I'm all outback next week
>>154430004OLIVIA QUIT SPELUNKING WE NEED YOU!
>>154430204You haven't read? The Sea Hag is preventing his arrival over there.
>>154430119That's not how you spell schwarzkopf.
>>154430431Yeah, I'm aware of that, but even with that delay, he should have gotten there by now.
>>154430431And before that, Popeye was made to clean his room on Davy Jones's orders before Sea Hag would arrive. The whole arc has just been Popeye being stalled for no good reason.

>>154429590the little Fiat-looking car being lifted right off its frame by the jack screams to me that it's something that happened in the weber family IRL at some point in the past, because it's such an overly specific thing to draw especially with that old school ratcheting jack.

>>154430004O...Olivia?
>>154429795Little shit deserved this.
>>154429905>ran out of ideas for the sunday strip? Just make a quick word puzzle! It's depressing how disappointing this comic is.
>>154430004So Cash is a literal nepo hire. This comic is going out of its way to make me regret ever defending it.
>>154429702Has Miss Buxley put on a few?
>>154438647It's all the homemade fried chicken.
>>154438039To be fair, you'll be hard pressed to find artists taking over a legacy strip, or even new cartoons that aren't nepo hires in some capacity. Even Rosebuds might not have made it without support from Jim Davis.
>>154430146Damn brat! Needs correction!
>>154430160Does this guy do anything other than draw fanart?
>>154438688I'm fine with people using their connections to get a foot in the industry with their own stuff, though. But this is like if Dee was suddenly thrust as the new writer/artist on Garfield pre-Rosebuds, which would've been suspect even if I do like Dee.
>>154429905Sometimes it's alright to go to reruns if a deadline can't be made, Mark did it with Heart, he does it with Lio at times. >>154429956oh >>154430050I don't know what's she's talking about, all I see is her and nothing else >>154432871Surprised she asked or fake asked, she would usually just take cookies while her parents aren't looking
>>154438039>>154438688Do nepo hires work in the same way in the newspaper industry as they do in the animation industry? It's not like you can get a comic picked up for newspapers just like that. I don't even think you can get mentorships anymore.
>>154429984Why is he not calling it MMA
>>154430004This is like the tenth time she's reiterated this joke
>>154431979He stands relatively in place while he dances, while she pinwheels around the place and trips over an ottoman. He decides to say something pithy.
>>154438931In my mind, it's the other way around. Davis has been handing off the reins to the big orange cat since last millennium. He's happy to give someone competent their start in exchange for not having to do the strip. The current "Hi and Lois" artist paid his dues that way, and there's been others I'm forgetting. The fact Davis skipped that and went right to pulling strings for Rosebuds is the real evidence of nepotism; he liked Dee too much to even use him as a workhorse first.
>>154440299>The fact Davis skipped that and went right to pulling strings for Rosebuds is the real evidence of nepotismI could be wrong, but wasn't Life With Kurami the comic Jim Davis helped Dee get into newspapers? Every interview I've heard refers that as the comic that got his start, and that was only in the local papers, not nationally syndicated like rosebuds is. Not that it really disproves the nepotism thing, but he at least had the experience of doing a newspaper comic years before rosebuds took off. Caroline Cash on the other hand only did comic books and adventure time stuff before getting placed with nancy.
>>154431025euphemistic
>>154429679You've been hit by, you've been struck by, a smooth new reaction meme.
>>154440522I didn't personally hear about his friendship with Davis until the Rosebuds era, so it's safer to assume you're right.
>>154429733>so deep, so deep>put her ass to sleep
I forgot. This is the correct Crankshaft comic from last Sunday. Arcamax still has the black inkless version at the moment, likely permanent, but Gocomics' print of last week's Crankshaft got corrected after the comments update dropped (gif posting is dropped, unfortunately.)>>154429954I read this article about the lack of nudity in the funnies. I guess you anons can edit out Toni's towel if you insist.https://www.dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2026/06/26/why-dont-we-do-it-in-the-comics-page/
>>154429590-2.) The right-hand edge of the alligator's apron.- I want to say Slylock spotted gray hairs stuck in the watch's wristband, but it's likely the watch is still set to PDT.- Aw, that's a small and cute hen, Penny.- 1) Kiwi, 2) Rhea, 3) Ostritch, 4) Penguin- 1) The bird on the roof in the background, 2) the car's license plate, 3) the crossbar on the undercarriage of the car, 4) the number of grooves on the jack, 5) the height of the purple bush in the back on the left of the tree, 6) flipped car door handle.
>>154430192>https://www.dailycartoonist.com/index.php/2026/06/26/why-dont-we-do-it-in-the-comics-page/Not trying to be a jerk, but I don't get it. What is the punchline to the first strip? Why does she tell him not to throw them into the bay in the second?
>>154432463That doesn't mean anything on it's own. From the comic we have no idea what time it is anywhere.
>>154443868It's a yearly tradition when school is out that the kids get together to watch Wallace throw his shoes into the bay to initiate summer and every year his mom tries to stop him because she hates buying him new shoes every year.
>>154429854>>154432461Gluesome
>>154429590Hey wait a second, this is just that "Cassandra stole a watch at the airport" puzzle reskinned.
>>154444050Are you being retarded on purpose?
>>154430192Lmao, reminds me of the SpongeBob episode where he and Patrick insulted Texas.
>>154439826Ah! Quite humorous then
>>154430004Cash should go spelunking too. I know just the place.
>>154430204Popeye has a honor code similar to Kiryu's or Marv's: he doesn't hit dames.
