Today is Gravity #1-5Last time, it was the House of M. The Hellions and members of the New Mutants Leadership Institute went to Japan seperately to target a human resistance group led by Surge's father, Seiji Ashida. Both sides learned of Project Genesis, a depraved attempt at forcibly turning humans into mutants and attempted to shut it down. But the Garrisons -- NMIL counselor Sean and his daughter Laurie -- were really deep cover SHIELD agents involved in Genesis. Sean was killed while Laurie attempted to make all sides fight each other before being killed by Cessily Kincaid. What remained of the New Mutants and Hellions made one last stand against Emperor Sunfire just as the world reverted.Prior to the HoM, Sofia decided to have her squad camp out by the lake to work out their issues which, after some verbal and physical fighting, they were able to successfully do.Previous >>154417575
Right, Rage had this goofy ass costume at the time.
I mean that is a pretty villainous look.
Issue 2
Issue 3
Obligatory Spider-Man team-up averted. It kind of feels like the only times these threads are gaining any traction is when X-Men stuff is storytimed. Oh well.
Issue 4
He screwed that up.
SHOCKER!
This fucking miniseries is the definition of wasted potential, it makes me so mad
Issue 5
>>154437601It's a good self-contained mini and if this were the early '90s he probably would have gotten at least a year or two years of an ongoing. Killing him so soon after his debut for a plot reason that was then balked on and likely wouldn't have worked out anyway was stupid.
The only thing separating Black Death and Quire is that nobody will ever use him again so he has no chance of a future writer completely misinterpreting what he actually was to make him cool.
It feels like Spider-Man's role in a lot of these stories is to just show up and go "Hey man, you cool? Keep it up." before jetting.
He's never getting back with Lauren. She makes a small appearance in Young Allies showing they're still friends but by that point he's moved on to trying to get with Firestar (which goes nowhere).
That does it for Gravity... almost literally. His next appearance is in the miniseries Beyond! where he'll get killed off. The plan was to bring him back immediately as the new Captain Marvel but after killing him Marvel decided against it. Dwayne McDuffie brought him back in Fantastic Four and he'd float around in the Initiative and stuff McKeever wrote when he came back to Marvel after his Teen Titans run but his last major appearance will be in a Fear Itself tie-in and effectively hasn't been seen since a cameo in Gillen's volume of Young Avengers.Speaking of which, it'll be the original run as it'll be Young Avengers #1-4.
Also in re-reading this I kind of feel like Gravity would have worked out a lot better as a DC character. He feels more like a DC attempt at creating a Marvel style character if that makes sense.

>>154437938>It feels like Spider-Man's role in a lot of these stories is to just show up and go "Hey man, you cool? Keep it up." before jetting.Makes sense. He's the guy who started the trend of young hero, he's got all the decades of tropes behind him, it's only fair that he gets to see off all the newbies to their inevitable death. For a guy like him, that's gotta be a fresh kind of hell. You'd think he'd start telling them to rethink their life choices.
>>154438065>. His next appearance is in the miniseries Beyond! where he'll get killed off.Well that's a shame. I always thought he was... okay.
>>154437938>>154440475You should have seen how often this shit happen in the latter half of the Michelinie run. He's teamed up with, in no specific order; The New Warriors, Dark Hawk, that fuck Solo, Moon Knight, Punisher, Nova independent of the New Warriors, Silver Sable and pretty much any other character they were trying to get over.
>>154440509You can maybe take it as he eventually retired. He went to NYC with big dreams, immediately like on the first day had them crushed, had his personal life ruined by a guy who became a villain because he was giant loser, from there he gets kicked around some Initiative teams, has to personally kill one of the members of his fledgling new team to stop a villain and then has to watch (and inadvertantly contributes to) Vegas getting leveled in Fear Itself.I guess you could make the argument that going through so much shit in a relatively short career made him decide it wasn't worth it.
>>154438065If he wasn't a white guy he'd probably be brought up more
>>154440907I guess being a curry eater for like two weeks wasn't good enough.
