Last time, Greg Willis came to New York with big dreams: he was starting at NYU but was also going to be Gravity, the next big hero. But he quickly learned that was easier said than done as all of his initial efforts blew up in his face and he was easily manhandled by an anarchistic villain called Black Death. But he gained a mentor in obscure hero Greenwich Guardian and a girlfriend in Lauren Singh... until he stood up Lauren to go do some superheroics with the Guardian. Which turned out to be the point as the Guardian was really Black Death, embittered by his loser status and initial attempts to be a hero. He captured Gravity and using a machine attempted to destroy NYU but Gravity was able to fight out and defeat him and with that resumed heroics with renewed confidence.Today will be Young Avengers #1-4.Previous >>154435572
I remember I used to think that Kate in this series was good and the later versions since Fraction's Hawkeye have been an aberration. But re-reading it, no she always was kind of a super perfect Mary Sue. The only thing that's missing from the later iterations is all the other characters fawning over her like they do nowadays.
This was a pretty big and shocking twist at the time and in hindsight it impressed people enough to carry the entire rest of the series and I guess title/characters in general.

The story of this arc is horrifically decompressed and takes place over a short amount of time but the characters are written as if it's taking place over weeks or months not a couple of hours.

That killed the long standing "Kang vs. Immortus" storyline once and for all, so rebooting that plot just with a younger Kang you could actually focus on outside of being a villain is, at least in my opinion, a good play.But I just like Kang stories in general, so I'm definitely biased.
