It's odd how it fluctuates between feeling very Adventure Time-y, and then not Adventure Time-y at all. It's a hard thing to describe. Sometimes it feels too juvenile, too conventional, like I'm watching a kid's show, and OG AT never made me feel that way. Other episodes feel like they could've been plucked from the original.

It's not season 1 Adventure Time it's like if late Adventure Time were trying to make a flashback episode. It's probably 7/10 at its best and 2/10 at its worst but it's much better and more enjoyable than whatever the fuck they were trying to do in season 6, 8, 9, 10 or F&C S2. Minus Islands and Elements. I remember 12 years ago after losing interest and aggressively catching up from Sad Face I wanted to tear my face off it was so god damn awful. Late Tom Herpich and Steve Wolfhard episodes were written as if the characters never had a conversion in their fucking lives. Season 10 Seventeen is by far the greatest tradgedy I had ever seen and I get more angry every time I go back to see how shit it was.I think the problem with Side Quests is that there's nothing to anticipate. Maybe that's for better or for worst. Which is why episodic mediums have mostly been a thing of the past. They were perfect in the era of channel surfing when you just put the least offensive thing on TV and tuned in when it was good and ignored it when it sucked.

I don't even think the characters move from their places as if it were some elementary school play. It's terrible unwatchable, unfunny, at a moment in the show when the stakes are supposed to be high and thrilling.
