Is Damian Wayne actually not that great of a Robin? he's pretty much the main Robin these days but he's not that unique or interesting he's basically just a repeat of Batman same personality same everything he has big goofy knee pads, a gay belt and also he's not as good as the other Robins
>>154462132Morrison had the right idea when he killed Damian in the same maxi-arc where he was introduced. He should've stayed that way. Of course DC can't let anything stay dead (see also: Jason).
>>154462156So Damian is basically dead too? just like Jason? why does Robin have to be dead, I don't understand
I'll explain more about why Damian sucksWhat's the point of him? he's basically the same as Bruce, there's nothing really novel about him, no new ground threaded, but also he's really small like a little dead midget child's play boy but he's basically like a no-personality adult. There's nothing about him that really makes him a kid, or fresh and interersting.Look at what Marvel did with Spider-man? Miles Morale is pretty fresh and interesting in today's world, Robin could use an overhaul like that maybe. But instead we get this muted colored Robin.Robin should be bright and colorful, instead Damian is often muted compared to other Robins. They should never mute Robin for sure. Damian is way too fucking obvious. Nuff' said. The fact that he's only again, like this Victoria era Chucky boy that is insinuated to possibly be like a murderous serial killer already is fucking terrible. It's just terrible in so many ways. Also Robin shouldn't ever directly or be an obvious offspring of Batman. It defeats the purpose of Robin. Damian has no personality.
>>154462132>Is Damian Wayne actually not that great of a Robin?he's not gay, that alone makes him a top three robin
>>154462293Neither of them are dead.
>>154462156Introducing Damian at all was not the right idea if you weren't planning on dealing with the long term consequence. If they actually kept track of things, 90's Bat editorial would've told them they kept getting letters asking about the baby from Son of the Demon. Giving Batman a biological son was always going to be a big deal, you can't just kill a character like that off. It also completely eclipses any other adopted son except maybe, maybe Dick, but even so Robin as Batman's biological son is just a more appealing concept to the average person.
>>154462415Timmy bros...
>>154462132He's alright. He does play off of Dick's Batman more than Bruce's (which Morrison's run kind of acknowledged), but New 52 did pull some weight to make him being Bruce's Robin interesting, giving him more of a cultured personality. Generally speaking, Damian's upbringing makes him edgier and less of a functional person than Bruce, but when he warms up to someone, he becomes more likable. There's also stuff like his repentance and association with Hell, Goliath the bat-onster and he had some characters for a supporting cast like Maya and Colin. It's just that, like a lot of other characters, Damian depends on who is writing him and what of his history they're willing to use, and modern writers don't really have a good track record with that Tim Drake. Combine that with Damian's major adaptions being the DCAMU (which wasn't great) and Injustice (Injustice) and I don't blame people for not liking him that much.
I do think Damian diminishes the batfam because after his introduction, everything became about him and how he's the de-facto heir to Batman now.
>>154462156>Morrison had the right ideaNo, he doesn't. It was his fault to begin with that we are stuck with Damian by introducing him in the first place.
>>154462966That's just wrong. The Dickbats era was a pretty great time for batfamilyfags in not small part thanks to the Dick/Damian dynamic.Plus the succession line(lol) of Bruce > Dick > Damian is much better than Bruce > Dick > Tim not because Damian was Bruce's biological son, but because he was Dick's Robin.
>>154463413Cope
>>154462132>Gimmick is “not like the other Robins” with Dick “not like the other Batman” Batman>Gimmick with Bruce is edgeprince Robin>Personality and backstory is Bruce’s demonic sonHe’s on par with Tim, we have just had 35 years to resign ourselves to Tim.
>>154463515>Dick/Damian dynamicThere was hardly any dynamic. Morrison's run was all about Damian running away from Dick and the latter is getting tired of him.
>>154462132We get it, Timfag. You are jealous of his success. Now go back to Bernard.
>>154462132Unlike Tim he at least has a personilty, ambitions and goals.
>>154462132I like him :)
>>154463721Midwit spotted
>>154462132Damian will benefit a lot from having a Nightwing esque persona once they finally get around to replacing him.I really dislike him as Robin and genuinely think he fills the role worse than even Steph did. He's a miserable, whiny, violent little brat who's very existence has left a nasty taint on Talia that she's never recovered from to this daym
>>154465563It's funny how people complain about Jason and Tim having nothing when Damian is literally going through the same arc over and over again for the last 20 years because they don't know what to do with him. He is just stuck repeating the same cycle.
>>154462132Wrong. Damian is great. He’s smug and arrogant in the most annoying way possible and it makes him an interesting Robin who has conflicts with his dad
>>154465563Steph was never a Robin. She can enjoy being the third wheel batgirl in her own comics instead lol
>>154465944>Robin who has conflicts with his dadYeah, because this never ever happened before.
>>154465631>stuck repeating the same cycle.Like every DC character that isn't new. >>154465944Annoying characters have only one good purpose, and that's getting their comeuppance. Otherwise, they're the opposite of entertaining and there is no greater sin for a character.
>>154462132Damian only works if he were intended to be the first Batman apprentice so introducing him like sixty years after Bill Finger and Bob Kane have died and Batman has already gone through three Robins and maybe a fourth one if you count Steph feels......real forced and like Damian doesn't fit in well. Not to mention Bruce should be much older physically after going through so many Robins before settling on Damian. And it really doesn't help Damian has no charisma, the only time I've ever liked an arrogant Batman apprentice was Terry from Batman Beyond and that's because he used his arrogance against baddies while Damian uses his arrogance to insult the other heroes making him come off as a cunt. Has he gotten better? Yes but all it takes is one shoddy writer and Damian goes back to acting lousy like when Damian got introduced to the Teen Titans and he was demanding worship from all of them essentially.
>>154462156Alfred was killed off and I'm surprised he's still dead...so far.
Damian only works when its just him and Bruce and no more.
>>154462132At least this is an actual change in the DC timelinem now if they had just kept Super Sons
>>154462156>Morrison had the right idea when he killed Damian in the same maxi-arc where he was introduced. You know what would have been a better idea? Not introducing him in the first place.
>>154468524>Bruce should be much older physically after going through so many Robins before settling on Damian. It's a floating timeline, autist. Like the Simpsons. These characters are fictional. They don't need to age if the company doesn't want them to. Simple as.
>>154462132If nothing else he gets points for being loyal and not being written as an idiot during Gotham War.
>>154469925based. this is the big problem with morrison, he just doesn't give a shit about the before/after, only his run. shit like this ruins entire characters for decades. x-shit never fully recovered from his run. batgod wank was at an all-time high because of his JLA/Batman shit. absolutely cancerous
They really struggle to come up with solo stories for him. All his stories feel like they just devolve into League of Assassins dreck that becomes uninteresting. He doesn't have a charming enough personality to really carry a series too. Robin should kind of be what original Ultimate Spider-man was. Mixing superhero life and school life. Tim's original run was like that even. He's a kid/teen and needs to really lean into that. I think they have tried that, and even had him go to school recently, but it always just feels off. He can be an okay partner with Bruce's Batman at times, and DickBats he was even better with, but solo Damian stuff has just struggled.
>>154470535Not just that, but he likes the obscure stuff that was best left behind in the Silver Age and tries to retrofit it for the modern age Batman. Which is not to say it can't work, it can work, but with Morrison, your results may very.
>>154462335In super-sons he was written pretty well. He reminded be a lot of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes.
>>154470702>In super-sons he was written pretty well. He reminded be a lot of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes. That's because he was written by Peter Tomasi, an actual father unlike that weirdo Morrison.
>>154463515>The Dickbats era was a pretty great time for batfamilyfagsThat was when entire podtions of the family were soft retconned or put on a bus. It was awful.
>>154462132>he's basically just a repeat of Batman same personalityThe whole point of Damian is he's initially the complete opposite of Bruce. He's a killer, a hothead, an elitist, etc. He has to unlearn the traits instilled in him by Talia/Ra's who raised him to be a cruel, spoiled little prince.
>>154470698>Which is not to say it can't work, it can work, but with Morrison, your results may very. No, that's one of Morrison's greatest strengths. being able to weave all of a character's history together. It's lesser retards who ignore 50 years of stories because they're too incompetent to mine them.
>>154467874Like all characters he's severely hampered by the need for eternal status quo reset. Ideally a character like that should learn over time to be less arrogant and smug through their experiences and emerge as a better, more mature person, but that would require actual character growth and the character becoming basically a different person. Can't have that in mainstream cape comics, a character has to stay relatively the same forever.
>>154462335>Miles Morale is pretty fresh and interesting in today's world???this makes your post go entirely from maybe someone who might genuinely have this opinion to just seeming like someone seething and coping, because why're you lying to make your point? Is this a Timfag crying or something?
>>154470964you're both kinda rightmorrison absolutely has the ability to weave it in but it's his interpretation is a take it/leave it approach, nothing in between. damian himself is a perfect example of it. it's 100% plausible that talia had a secret child with bruce that he didn't know about. instead he has talia retconning into drugging bruce, instead of it just happening, which would've been more than enough. so now talia is a rapist instead of this forbidden ex-flame. "i want to make magneto evil and just ignore the last decade of claremont slowly redeeming him" is the other extreme with him too
>>154462132Robin isn't great by definition. He is colourful, a kid, and a sidekick. Batman's appeal is that he is dark, brooding and a loner.
>>154471370>instead he has talia retconning into drugging bruce, instead of it just happening, which would've been more than enough. I believe Morrison has said the drugging thing was just him misremembering what happened, it wasn't intentional.
>>154462132he's fine when he's written ok just like the rest of them. His general character arc is softening up and overcoming his upbringing with the struggles that brings. He hasn't been great with Bruce but was ok for the most part with Dick and you could see what the aim was. He probably worked the best with Jon though because of how well they play off each other and there was some interesting subtext in that he was lightening up while Jon was getting more calculating which would have been cool to explore as they grew up. He does have very big "look at me" problem but I think that's mostly a writer issue
>>154462156Nah, creating a worse version of death in the family was retarded.Special the plans to decapitate him.
>>154463721What?
>>154471906This was Morrison trying to save face, he wanted it to be Talia's "shooting that bitch" moment.
>>154470993Damian has mellowed down and become less of an asshole so you’re wrong
>>154462132Nah he’s got sass
>>154462132Tim Drake literally is gay or bi, so that makes him the gay one.
I’d like to see both him and Maps being robin at the same time
