You couldn't search as many boards simultaneously as you used to but breaking it in half or even thirds would make all resulting splits far more manageable.If I was going to guess why they haven't done that right away it may be splitting it would require more fees in hosting to move things to separate servers rather than an "everything under one umbrella" deal.
