>>154482028Marvel seem to still think their target audience is female or gay, but they disguise it behind a cover meant to appeal to the traditional straight male audience. The only effort in the rest of this book went into drawing the dudes. They make you think they're bringing back that thing from the 90s you liked but it's a total subversion.
>>154481929I don't get it. Why are Namor and Triton acting like they don't like each other here?
>>154482289>>154482326It's not that they're not trying to make the art sexy, they're actively avoiding it, for the women at least. I don't get why they even print this if it goes directly against their political stance, which they think a comics company should have.
>>154482289They somehow can pull out infinite cheesecakes artist when it is time to give Black cat 12 variant covers but they all disappear for the year swimsuit comic.
>>154482580There were a couple good covers. I like the Artgerm one. Misleading though because the interior art isn't good and it's mostly pinups of dudes.

>>154482449>Why are Namor and Triton acting like they don't like each other here? You don't expect Marvel writers to actually be familiar with Marvel characters do you?
Good lord this was horrible
>>154482449They clearly do, whats odd is that seemed like they dislike each other. Weird emphasis and Triton not calling Namor by his first name.
>>154482830It's one thing to not know that two characters might have had positive interactions in the past, it's another to just make them not like each other for no reason out of nowhere. Then again these shitty swimsuit specials have had a bunch of retarded character moments, like Titania and Absorbing Man spontaneously acting like crooks to get beat up even though they've been legit for several years now.
>>154482826How much more disappointing would the issue have been if you had paid $35 for this cover
>>154482861It's amazing when you think these problems could be entirely avoided by just doing a pin-up book with no stories at all like they did back in the 90s.

Last years was better. I don't know why they felt the need to dedicate so many pages to unnecessary plots and execute it so poorly. The Shantae comic has a short plot, but it starts and ends with the girls being hot. BTW, Sky, Twitch and Vinegar are S-Tier waifus.

The only one I like in a fun/inside joke way is the Thor one. A good bikini pin-up of Storm, Jessica Drew or She Hulk by a legend like Art Adams, Terry Dodson or Frank Cho would've gone far to make this issue more appealing.

I'm not giving a cheap narrative like that any time.
>>154491610Those Mary Jane and Black Cat Campbell variants, top row #1 and #4, are nice. It took a little searching to find, apparently you have to buy blind bags that cost $45 each from his webstore and hope you get the one you want...
>>154494332Knowing the interior is slop makes this seem even worse.

>>154491637This is basically false advertising that should be criminal considering the contents of the actual interior pages inside
Man this shit sucks. Feels like they didn't even try at all. I didn't count, but it feels like less interior pinups than usual. They didn't even try to tie it into the story from last year's swimsuit and winter break special. Perhaps I'm the fool for thinking that Marvel could make anything worthwhile these days, but it truly feels like some rug pull shit when they go all out with sexy pinup covers and can't be assed to put anything worthwhile between the pages.
>>154494440Collectors seems to be a mix of boomers, gen-x, and maybe older millennials. There's some overlap, but I think different things also appeal to them. There are new collectors coming onto the scene. Some of those 90s speculation bubble comics are actually becoming valuable, which I thought would never happen. I'm sure you could flip it to a new collector that missed out in a couple years. To get a big max profit flip right now you would have to pull a highly sought after one from the blind bag. It would have to be in perfect condition. You would then want to get it slabbed and pray they give you a 9.8. It's pretty much high risk gambling at $45 a pop.
>>154494440>how much are modern marvel comics actually selling? The new weekly comic store releases, probably not very well. They're losing to DC bad right now.
>>154494646This just seems ridiculous, we have an industry that is kept afloat by the literal cover of the book not the book itself. They should just dispose of the narrative inside and start selling limited edition pin-ups and posters, cut out the writing middleman.
>>154494732I’d warn against giving them ideas, but I think I’d prefer pure pin-ups to an actual story at this point since it’s clear they can’t write those anymore.
>>154494827The characters would be better served with images that speak to their actual characterization and sparks the imagination of the viewer, fan discourse and works can produce the actual stories. This is basically how I see things going once Spider-Man hits public domain, then ain't nobody going to care about the current IP owners current direction or take on the character is.
>>154493947Late 90s and early 2000s

>>154496182MJ wasn't even in that in any meaningful way right? So already the worst parts are out and you just focus on the mad scientist in Peters body premise without the weird and gross sex stuff that Slott couldn't tone the fuck down.

>>154493237Felicia's gay, anon. Peter isn't lucky at all.
>>154494732There are modern comics, especially Marvel, that are only valuable because of their cover. The real gamble is the ratio incentives. Those are going to either be worth a lot more or a lot less than you paid. But it can be true for older comics also though. Old Batman comics are valuable just because they have a Joker cover, for example. I think it is rarer they become high value because it got turned into a netflix show, etc. or became really popular. >start selling limited edition pin-ups and postersI guess there's not much of a market for that.
