Like 2 or so years ago I storytimed quite often mostly because i fell for the 4chan premium scam and thus had no captchas. I ended up stopping once the pass ran out its just really helpful for storytimes especially since I mostly dumped trades/story arcs instead of single issues. I did weekly issues sometimes and tried my best to do the indie shit of the week instead of more capeshit. Do people on this board even care about storytimes anymore besides some of the weekly capeshit floppies. I recently got a job again and am kind of considering getting a pass again but the only reason to would be to storytime. Is it even worth it? Do people still read them?

Bonus question what specific books and/or genre or types of books do you wish got storytimed on /co/ more often ?
>>
>>154503898
I used to story time when the captcha was reasonable. Now it asks me to do 3 for almost every post which tacks on enough pain to deter me. Maybe when I have a free day I will try to story time again. I found my favorite comics series through story times so I naturally like them.

I think you misunderstand, the OP purposefully chooses bad comics because it gives him a sense of superiority, basically storytime of pain. Don't think I've seen regular storytime of completed comics in the past year or two.

This board is entirely overrun by zoomers who only care about cartoons, youtubeslop and masturbating. Storytimes don't get responses anymore. Ironically, /a/ is now a healthier place for them.
>>
>>154503898
Word of advice
If you want a storytime to garner attention it's best to understand who the audience on /co/ is
Stuff that has more unique artstyles that aren't contemporary "house" get more attention because most of the people on /co/ are into cartoons
Cape comics have their audience but outside of major new releases they don't get much traction as one would expect because all the old stuff is likely already read by people who were interested in those characters to begin with or were already planned to be read on their own time

>>
>>154504649
They likely wouldn't get much traction. Someone tried storytiming Moore's Swamp Thing a few months ago and I remember it getting only a few responses each time.

I was a regular when people storytimed the newer comics, I eventually lost interes but by no fault of the storytime but the comic.
Thanks to the storytimes I've been reading TMNT for the first time and I join the Usagi yojimbo every year.
>>
>>154504903
Speaking of TMNT where's the anon? Is he taking a break for the 4'th or is it done?
>>
>>154503898
I still read them occasionally. I don't have the time in a day to read all the big ones, so I usually pick up one or two and stick with them. Right now, that anon storytiming the mid-aughts Teen Marvel comics have my attention. That was a bit of a blind spot for me, so it's mostly pretty fresh. I've read most of TMNT so I don't pop in too often for those, but here and there. Similar for Magister's Spider-Storytime.
Really, my biggest crime is not really engaging with Minifig's stuff. He's singlehandedly archived entire catalogs just through storytiming and for that he has my utmost respect, but I'm gonna be honest: old romance or war comics are not my gig.

The storytimes of new issues on here are the only reason I ever read them. In general, anything published in the 21st century is significantly improved if read alongside a storytime from here. (Hickman’s Avengers was a genuinely fun time thanks to old /co/ threads that documented everyone’s slow disappointment.) Paradoxically, most newer comics really fucking suck, so people don’t want to read them because they’re garbage… prompting people to storytime them less, making them less fun.

I have been personally storytiming my favorite cape’s most important stories on their anniversaries, just for personal satisfaction and fun, but it’s a giant pain in the ass that I’d probably not be able to do if I wasn’t a borderline NEET. I think my last storytime took about an hour and a half, and that was only 80 or so pages of a graphic novel.

Basically nobody reads anything but the new releases anymore. Some anons will drop in sporadically for the really big storytimes, like Usagi Yojimbo or the ongoing TMNT/Spidey ones, but it seems like most comic readers still here are only around for Wednesday releases (probably due to the second half of >>154504594).

I’ve had some luck with my threads— I think two or three people expressed interest in the subject matter thanks to a storytime I did?— but, generally, I’m speaking to a wall and mostly enjoying it because the sheer act of sharing something I love makes me happy. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I would love if there were more storytimes in general. Indie, capeshit, doesn’t matter— the more actual comics on the comics board, the better. But I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone without mountains of free time to burn and a deep love/hate for whatever they’re sharing.

(Pic unrelated I just think it’s funny)

I don't really read storytimed comics. Never really have in the 15 or so years I've been here. I do appreciate them and bump them at every opportunity.
>>
>>154503898
There's been an on-and-off Spider-Man storytime going on for a few years now, which gets at least enough traction that the storytimer can finish dumping it before the thread falls off the board. Kind of depressing that that's the best metric I can give for that.
Some of the webcomic ones do okay, though. Give people something they remember, not for outrage purposes but for enjoyment, and you might get some discussion.
>>
the problem isnt the storytimes or even the lack of them the problem is a lot of them get zero discussion/engagement. if theyh did things would be better overall

Probably gave up since only a small amount of anons (and Boco) responded in those threads. Then again, if he was storytiming the IDW-era run, it'd probably be spergy slapfights abound.
>>
>>154505824
>I think my last storytime took about an hour and a half, and that was only 80 or so pages of a graphic novel.
/co/ should really adopt the rule of some of the porn boards in that if you're the OP and image dumping, the timer is cut down to 30 seconds once you've selected an image. The time investment and having to babysit the thread through it is the biggest problem with storytiming and doing that would cut the time in half or allow people to do more issues or more of a trade in the same time it'd take them to do a few issues currently.

>TMNT/Spidey
Those don't seem to get too many posters either. We're honestly far removed from Underground selling more than it had previously because of a random storytime which then led to Lieber hanging out here for a while and offering commentary during Superior Foes storytimes. Nobody reads them anymore except for some one shot GNs because the comic reading audience here has been chased out by the cartoon/youtube crowd.
>>
>>154506670
Really now? Cause I was downloading the whole threads thanks to him. He was based.
>>
>>154506525
Not them and I know you're just shitposting but the point of storytiming is to share things and get some discussion going. If you're not getting any responses then it's effectively pointless and the problem is that most storytimes nowadays don't get any because most of the people that come to this board are coming for cartoons and whatever the latest indieslop FOTM youtube pilot is.

You post the thing you love and get stored in the archives.

That's is the objective.

Not everything needs a visible reaction.

Someone, now or in the future is going to thank you you uploaded that particular book. For example, Red Coat was posted here and is great to see the artwork for me personally. Some documents are not available in every single country in physical format so it's great to read it here.

I cannot just go to Argentina to the closest sanctioned Warner Brothers comic book store and buy what I want, you know. This place close gaps.

Hell yeah, but I mostly don’t care about capeshit (obvs if it’s got something really going for it I’m down, Dr. Strange and Dr. Doom: Triumph and Torment was pretty). I liked Beautiful Darkness, The One, Usagi is always a nice time, The Nice House on the Lake was fun, Daytripper, uhhhh I dunno. Generally I like stuff that feels unique and artful in how it illuminates at least one part of the human condition/experience of life or gives me a thought to chew on that I’ve never had before. Really appreciate you
>>
>>154506700
>The time investment and having to babysit the thread through it is the biggest problem with storytiming
Absolutely. I’ve had to stealth bump my own threads for every single one I’ve done and always felt like shit about it because I keep thinking it somehow detracts from actual engagement (when it’s really just adding some where there was none). Sucks.

I deeply love storytime threads. They contribute to some of my best memories on this site, and I still tune into them if it’s a title that looks interesting. In addition to rarer OC and stream threads, storytimes are one of the pillars of /co/ and /a/ that make this place worth visiting in the abyss of despair that’s the rest of the modern internet.

I understand your decision if you stop doing them. It’s increasingly more difficult to post them due to archaic site management and openly antagonistic newfags/autistic schizos/sharty kids. This website’s best days are behind it and things will continue to get worse every year, though at the moment it’s still comparatively good enough for me to keep returning. So, if you give up I thank you for your years of service, but if you continue you’re making a lot of anons like me happy even if we don’t show it as much as we probably should.

I get exposure to things I wouldn't have otherwise from storytimes so I'd say they're still a vital part of spreading awareness of a comic. I admit it's more difficult these days and also disheartening when you dump something and get no replies so I don't blame people for quitting. Spammers and autists have no qualms about flooding the board so I think it would be good if more people could support storytime threads even with a simple bump before they get pushed off the catalog by garbage.

That's as may be, but some of the new stuff he posted was good enough (or bad enough) for SoP. Picrel, it was goofy bullshit with crappy art that didn't make a lick of sense but people acted like it was amazing. If half the stuff Minifig posted during 2023-24 had been posted during any of the pre-2020 SoP weekends, they'd have been hailed as classics by now.
>>154519522
Interesting... I'm reading the first issue and it seems like a standard post-Star Wars sci-fi comic, what makes it SoP material?
>>
>>154503898
I like seeing storytimes, especially of one-offs and miniseries where you can get everyone done in a few threads. It’s a great way to read stuff that you wouldn’t normally pick up, I have done it myself and it’s nice to introduce people to things I enjoy. If there’s one thing I’d like to see more it’s old webcomics.
>>
I think the elephant in the room is the fact that RCO is just so much more convenient - sure, we still have stuff like SoP or the Usagi marathon, but those are traditions for us old-timers.

It's a problem with a lot of people on here nowadays where they feel the need to be contrarian about everything for no reason. The Unfunnies is such a giant pile of shit that even Millar wants it forgotten but hey, people hate it so gotta say it's actually good. I'm guessing a lot of them are zoomers who seem to basically take it as a maxim that they must think the opposite of what millennials and Gen Xers think at all times less they be hit with their biggest fear: being called an unc.

>Interesting... I'm reading the first issue and it seems like a standard post-Star Wars sci-fi comic, what makes it SoP material?
Just keep going, anon.

Just keep going.

I hope the guy continues posting the TMNT comics.

I've done multiple storytimes and never bought the pass

I was doing The Darkness reboot but interest was low so I stopped

We have the stories.

Yeah I like doing them but last time I did one someone who worked on the comic I was story timing died during my threads. I'm too spooked to do more now

me neither

People post fucking PORN here on /co/!
>>
>>154527655
Some issues have casual/artistic nudity in them, and I'm sure as hell not risking pissing the mods off by posting nsfw material on a blue board
>>
>>154527664
They leave poorly-censored graphic porn and cropped porn up. I doubt they give a shit about casual nudity in European comics.
>>
>>154527853
Yeah, but given the vindictiveness of the mods and the subject matter of Berlin, I ain't taking any risks
>>
>>154527106
Other boards are more open to storytimes than you might think. I've been on /vr/, posting comics based off various vidya classics like Sonic the Comic or Malibu's various Mortal Kombat miniseries, and the reception has been warmer than you might expect.
>>
>>154522051
>>154526108
Well, I've read the whole ongoing. It certainly turns into an incoherent mess with wonky art and inconsistent characterization the moment it stops adapting the stage plays

Storytimes are good board content. However, I'm not going to engage with a storytime unless the comic is interesting to me. Most comics aren't interesting to me.

I do and I appreciate anons who do them.

Someone made a thread earlier this year that was like “12 STORYTIMES WHO THE FUCK IS READING ALL OF THESE” It was so fucking funny, some people hate storytimes.
>>
>>154503898
/co/ doesn't read comics.
Not anymore at least.
>>
>>154503898
Storytimes are the main reason I've stuck around here
I enjoy reading the things that are new to me as well as the discussions that happen during storytimes
>>
>>154503898
Storytimes help put comics I wouldn't have otherwise checked out on my radar. Some of my favorite comics were from storytimes I encountered on /co/. So I am always appreciative of anons who shared comics they like.
>>
>>154532888
Trips of god fucking damn it, why didn't they actually finish this
>>
>>154510596
>multiple Loud House threads
>multiple Digital Circus threads
I get not liking those shows, but they are cartoons and this is the cartoons board.
>>
I get why most new main 2 comics don't get storytimed, but I wish they did, at the very least so we could discuss them a bit like back when I started reading /co/storytimes.
But /co/ isn't interested in those comics unless they're Spider-Man, or so bad that they can't help but complain how shit they are.
>>
>>154532780
There's posters here now who really just want the board to be a cesspool where they can spam and shitpost about culture wars, bait with twitter screenshot OPs, spam shit like Digital Circus, attempt to console war DC vs. Marvel movies and other retarded stuff. They hate storytimes for not being the low effort bullshit they like.
>>
>>154510596
>>154533022
Yeah, I get finding it annoying, but there's no rule that there can't be multiple threads about the same show, if a show is popular, it's going to get a lot of threads.
Eventually, the threads will slow down, like always.
>>
>>154533022
>>154533200
I'd say the avalanche of TADC threads has been a lot, but that's been the case for every major series finale on /co/ since ATLA and the solution has always been the same: one sticky for at least a week, every other thread gets nuked
>>
>>154532298
God, I hope this year's is at least decent. The fact that I'm seeing promo pics gives me hope.
>>
>>154533203
>since ATLA and the solution has always been the same: one sticky for at least a week, every other thread gets nuked
I'm not enough of an oldfag to have experienced that, the only type of /co/ stickies I'm familiar with are those that are made when someone from the industry dies, like an artist, writer, VA, etc.
Like, I don't recall Gravity Falls or Star Vs. or Steven Universe getting stickies for their finales, they just had multiple regular threads made.
>>
>>154533200
Under normal circumstances I'd agree but the tadc thread spam clearly crossed a line. Thankfully it's slowed down to tolerable levels but something is wrong if there are consistently 30+ low effort threads crowding out anything else and "main" general threads that burn through 500+ posts in less than four hours because people are treating them like a stream of consciousness chatroom. I also noticed cascading effects where as the volume of tadc threads died down other shitty threads became more noticeable that might have otherwise been archived faster. I assume this is because a lot of people ducked out during that week which left only the most dedicated autists to fill the space with their pet engagement bait topics like >>154533078. While being too strict with rules can also have issues there must be some kind of balancing act to avoid a board becoming spam town.
>>
>>154533452
I honestly can't really refute any of that but I also didn't really feel a problem myself.
>>
>>154533609
Fair enough. Personally I think I'm a little too online which is why I pay too much attention to stuff like this.
>>
A board split would be neat.
