Axing Aunt May is a net positive for Spider-mans story, it removes his safety net and I think moving forward with a Peter and MJ story that is them transitioning from couple to partner is nice to see again, though I'm a fan of when most characters have long term partners in comics. I don't even mind miles becoming the "main" spider-man to allow for Peter to soft retire, though they just stole this from Spider-verse and that concept was done better in Spider-men with 616 peter giving his blessing and them being in 2 worlds. The rest of the story is mixed mid-bad though. Killing all of Spider-mans villains is dumb, having the conclusion to the Black Cat story not be Peter's pov for closure is stupid, Mary Jane being an action hero is dumb, but mostly for how they did it. Give her powers or make her gameplay section fun, bootleg last of us combat is fucking terrible. The Arkham series perfected the breaks in gameplay over a decade ago with Cat Woman/Robin. The venom tweaks are dumb, my main issue is that people love rushing to Cait's venom aesthetics and stories instead of allowing him to become a regular villain first. And narratively the black suit saga really kinda sucks when you have another hero there to sorta talk peter out of it rather than it being a battle of his own will alone. For as much as people meme on the fridge thing and MJ she's like the second least bad part of that entire story. Ultimately I think people just yearn for the Spider-man fantasy of 25-30 year old guy with hot GF who saves the city, and the recent movies and games just go way too big concept with it.
