>>154512909>The bad seasons of the Fairly Odd Parents are better than the bad seasons of SpongeBobWtf are you on about? The final season of FOP is borderline unwatchable. If SpongeBobs seasonal rot was as bad as FOP was they would’ve broken tons of the shows rules like revealing the Krabby Patty secret formula and giving SpongeBob a girlfriend or some shit. At least the most hated Tibbittbob episodes weren’t boring

>>154512871Has plankton eaten a patty yet?
I'd prefer asking about takes that make you Patrick eating peanuts thrown at him.
>>154512871The second half of season 3 has a number of episodes that feel like prototypes for the show going to shit after the movie. It still has some gems but it's a notable drop off compared to the first half which was loaded with classics. You can really tell the writers were distracted with working on the movie in some of them.Season 4 is shit and not "ok", it has a couple of good episodes but even those are low-tier compared to the pre-movie ones. The back half of season 4 is completely forgettable garbage.
Spongebob lost its heart after S2
It's a comedy show with no depth. There isn't much to discuss about it.
>>154513141Someone pointed out in a thread like a year ago that literally the first scene of the first episode of season 4 is portraying the characters wrong and I've never been able to see it the same way since>Episode opens with Mr. Krabs dressed as an artist painting a sign for his restaurant>Mr. Krabs doing any work at all instead of getting Squidward, the artist who works for him, to paint the sign

>>154513600We wouldn't be autistically nitpicking if post-movie Spongebob wasn't crap.
>>154512871People praise pizza delivery for the ending. But the episode itself is pretty boring.
>>154513804I agree that the art is the only good thing about nubob, it definitely has some of the best cartooning I’ve seen in a modern show, but at the same time there’s also several questionable people working on it.>Kyle MorrisonHyper muscle/ass/fat fetishist that has storyboarded episodes with that kind of shit in it.>Zoe MossTroon who was very close to Kyle Carrozza and was/is apparently friends with Schmorky>Miggs PerezBitch who complained about a SpongeBob joke featuring a muscular nurse for being "transphobic" just to brown nose for a job on The Patrick Star Show>Chris DeroseMassive politisperg and whiny bitch>Jennifer Gleeson Dyke who draws porn of the Space Goofs characters on rule 34 under an alt name, notice how these are drawn in the same exact style as her Space Goofs fanart she postshttps://rule34.xxx/index.php?page=post&s=list&tags=user%3amana-pool>Adam PaloianDefinitely the most talented of the modern SpongeBob alumni, but also has pickpocketed his coworkers at Nickelodeon (probably the most tame of the bunch though)

The movie felt more like post-movie Spongebob than in the vein of S1-S3.Just mostly randumb nonsense that's only liked for the ending.
>>154514735Don't worry, Nick likes bigoted foreign market revenue
>>154512871It's really not that good of a show
season 6 was greatrewatch house fancy, the toenail scene was funny as hell>t. sense of humor destroyed from growing up on ytps
Early Season 4 still kinda feels like leftover Season 3 humor while Late Season 4 feels more like the "Nick Jr slop" of Season 5.
>>154512871Mr. Enter may be cringe incarnate but he was mostly right about Spongebob. People just refuse to agree with him because of how awful his videos are. It's a classic 'right message wrong messenger' kind of situation
>>154520504As a kid I also raged at the "Squidward torture" episodes
>>154520504No I incidentally also agree with him if my understanding of his videos is right. I've never watched him but at least from what I've heard he hates pretty much all the same episodes I do.
>>154512871Seasons 1-3 are peak but that doesn't mean the show was garbage afterwards or isn't capable of putting out good things now.Seasons 4-6 the show was still largely fun to watch outside a few stinkers, seasons 7-9a was the first true dark age of SpongeBob.Seasons 9b-12 was the SpongeBob Renaissance, not as good as pre-movie but it was the first time in a while SpongeBob was consistently fun to watchSeasons 13-present I'd argue is the second dark age, arguably worse than seasons 7-9a in some aspects. The Patrick Star Show had a rough start but once it found its footing it became one of the best modern cartoons currently running, better than current SpongeBob.The first two movies are the only good SpongeBob movies.
>>154513141>>154519594Yeah season 4 basically feels like two different seasons. I regularly see people forget episodes from the second half of it entirely or think they're from season 5 otherwise. Early season 4's a step down but it's not terrible, later season 4 is actually terrible.
>>1545128713 is better than 1 I don't like the look of 1, too desaturated
I understand why Paul Tibbitt was the one Hillenburg trusted with SpongeBob when he stepped down as showrunner. The show was different, no doubt, but it still felt like SpongeBob. The characters still felt like they had some complexities to them as opposed to now where most of them are hollow shells of themselves.SpongeBob himself is the biggest example of the characters becoming bland, nowadays he literally does not have a personality. His main default is just happy and only sometimes allowed to be sad or mad.If you keep up with SpongeBob discourse, it's a meme within fandom circles to make fun of people "modern SpongeBob does not have a spine, literally or metaphorically" whenever a clip of him getting angry in the old episodes pops up, but it's literally true.Random example from a newer episode, Bizzaro Bottom, fans of nuBob like to point to that as an example of modern SpongeBob getting angry, but there's virtually no real character motivations behind it like there was even in the Tibbitt era of the show. In older episodes, SpongeBob would be driven to his breaking point by people taking advantage of his hospitality or jealously over someone else being better at him at his job, but in Bizzaro Bottom he gets angry because the plot needed to reach its climax and have a funny face or two. This isn't a dig at the facial expressions in modern Bob, I love how cartoony the show can be, but they're forgetting that these characters used to be characters with real motivations instead of vehicles to showcase gimmicks.
>>154520593>The first two movies are the only good SpongeBob movies.I don't think this one's particularly controversial.
>>154520831People fucking hate 2 even though the first one put most of the characters on the side.
>>154520879I think that's probably people that haven't actually seen 2 desu. I think 1's by far the better movie overall but 2 is hardly bad. What comes after that in comparison is a dumpster fire.
>>154512871Should have ended at the first movie
>>154514735I think you're hard pressed to find any up and coming animation talent who isn't a massive fucking virtue signaling sperg or freak on social media
>>154520879Yeah I don't like how they don't use most of the cast that much in the first one, AND its supposed to be the ending? That's lame.
>>154520879>>154520921As someone who enjoys the second movie, I have to say it's inferior to the first one. It's a shame most of the cast got sidelined in the first one, but I understand the reasoning behind it. The movie was fundamentally a story about immaturity which puts SpongeBob at the focus, the character who had the most conflicts and hangups about his masculinity in the first 3 seasons. It works as a finale for him to finally accept himself as he is.
>>154520921And why would the conclusion hinge on Spongebob being manager? It's nice for him, but I thought he was content with being a fry cook.
>>154519594Only Fear of a Krabby Patty (Since it was written by Carl Harvey)
>>154520921Purportedly this was executive meddling with Viacom wanting the movie to focus on Patrick and Spongebob because they were considered the most marketable characters, and the staff actually wanted to include Squidward too but he was considered to not be marketable enough. They basically did the best with what constraints they were forced into, although I'd have killed to see Squidward traveling with them too. The dynamic he could have added would have been great.
>>154521000If they included Squidward, you'd all be complaining about how he was treated
>>154520963The manager tag is just a name anyway. I like the movie but I don't see why it should be the ENDING. That's my real problem with it.
Mr. Krabs has ALWAYS been a bigger villian and tyrant than Plankton.
>>154521042Not really, there have been speculation threads on this board about how it'd play out and they tend to involve Squidward being a stick in the mud until he realizes he's being a cunt and he ends up going along with Spongebob and Patrick in the end. It'd be the perfect sendoff to his character.
>>154513141Late Season 3 did feel "different" than Early Season 3. Episodes like Great Snail Race, I Had an Accident, Missing Identity, Krabby Land, The Camping Episode, Born Again Krabs, Plankton's Army started feeling more "meta"/sarcastic like they knew the show was winding down.
>>154512871Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy should be recast. It's sad their actors died but Charles Nelson Reilly was also recast and nobody made a fuss over it. I think it's okay to let the characters live on.

>>154514377>But the episode itself is pretty boring.Fuck off. The pioneer gags and Spongebob singing the delivery song are peak jokes.
>>154512871Do people take Spongebob seriously that they go out their way to do this to other people?
>>154525376Yeah, SpongeBob fans routinely chain people up in public displays so that the public can heckle them if they give the wrong opinions about the show. Bit fucked up innit?
>>154520593What are these houses? Abandoned car radiators?
>>154512871the pre-2nd movie era, for all it's faults it had, is still pretty good (obviously not as good as seasons 1-3, but still decent)post-2nd movie is where it becomes actually bad
>>154520593>>154526387Season 6 was fucking terrible. I can see arguments for 4 or 5 if you really wanna push it but nah man fuck season 6. 7 and 8 were also before the second movie and were rancid, don't even see how you could defend those ones.
>>154526084I would assume so, a lot of the buildings in Bikini Bottom are made of trash (anchors, buckets, lobster traps, etc.Interestingly though Hillenburg always had a knack for absurdist architecture, some similar house can be seen in his short film "wormholes"
>>154520593>>154520799I feel like current SpongeBob would get a lot better if they just made the show board-driven again, a big reason that "Go Fetch" short and the good episodes of The Patrick Star Show are enjoyable because they were board-driven, it’s clear that the script driven format they’ve been using the past few seasons is starting to run out of steam, the overuse of unnatural/forced references to the old seasons is also very obnoxious .
>>154513255>they actually gave her a defined chest here I've been too harsh on you, SpongeBob Movie 2...
>>154526651This episode was weird because it came out before the "no you can't show a woman's breasts in cartoons" thing even happened. It also sucked fucking donkey dick, I remember being genuinely confused at how unfunny it was when it came out.
Aaron Springer was the middle Tibbitt eras real highlight, he was definitely the funniest writer at the time.
>>154527361He's a mixed bag..
>>154519594I cannot believe that Skill Crane is from the same season as the fucking wig episode.
>>154527850Springerbob drawings look the funniest when Robertryan Cory plussed them.
>>154528173Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!
>>154520921>>154520941Sponge out of Water is a good movie and Hillenburgs touch in the film is clearly visible, but the third act was kinda lame, funny cause that’s the part 95% of the marketing focused on.
>>154512909Fairly Odd Parents was never good to begin with, so a decline with that show never existed.
>>154517518Ok we get it, millennialtroon.
>>154528993You can tell the third act was the stuff the executives wanted because it feels like a completely different movie when they go above surface
>>154526577I agree, the SpongeBob writing team is the same handful of people that it's been for like a decade, more or less. Correct me if I'm mistaken. If they went back to boards full time and let some of the fresh blood write gags I think the show would improve.Ironic because there's people that seem to think it's the fans working on the show that are writing the season 1-3 references when it's usually someone who's been on the show since pre-movie that's writing episodes.
I really feels like the first movie is underrated. Its a childhood movie but man, so many stuff happening, the soundtrack, the quest, the growth, the humor which works very well given the contextIts the perfect send of to classic spongebob, kind of like the first South Park movie but better. I really wonder how it could lose to fucking Shark Tale
>>154529851It's only underrated if you're deep into the SpongeBob fandom that's full of contrarians
>>154512909>Season 1 is the best seasonSeason 1 definitely has a different vibe. I totally get why people prefer Seasons 2 and 3. The episodes were funnier, and since it’s a comedy show, it’s normal for people to value what makes them laugh the most. But Season 1 has something the other seasons don’t have. I don’t know how to put it into words properly; it was really cozy, but it could get a little awkward at times. It’s a similar feeling to what I get from some Hey Arnold episodes, but I feel like it was even more palpable in SpongeBob.
>>154530918It's a mix of the fact that the show was still animated traditionally, which gives it a different visual vibe, and the fact that the writing was much more toned-down and closer to the vein of Rocko's Modern Life than the later episodes would get. Hell Rock Bottom basically feels like a Rocko episode.
>>154530918>I don’t know how to put it into words properly; it was really cozyIt's called having an atmosphere, zoom zoom.
>>154512909>>154530918For me, it's the way Hillenburg uses his marine biology degree for Season 1. There's at least one line in almost every episode where Spongebob calls himself an invertebrate or some such, and that makes the undersea theme more relevant and the world more fleshed out. Added on to the slower pace in comparison to Seasons 2 or 3 and especially anything beyond, Season 1 is this whole lived-in world instead of just some comedy cartoon.
>>154530918The show definitely looked the best in season 1 too, it leans the most into the surrealist underwater aesthetic when compared to all the other seasons and is the best display of Hillenburgs artstyle.
>>154530918Season 1 is more sincere while S2-3 have more humor. And late S4 onward is basically Nick Jr.
>>154512871SpongeBob is worth twice as much as the Hamtaro franchise, and is more culturally relevant.
>>154512909season 1 to me tends to be pretty polarizing. when an episode manages a strong story hook it's fantastic, but anything that doesn't stand out is really dry and awkward. season 2 and 3 seem to have more even quality, everything is pretty catchy and memorable.
