Does /co/ remember that period in 2020 where Fanboy and Chum Chum became an ironic meme? What was that all about?
>>154526134It was just that a meme, that sometimes kids just want to be goofy little shits.
>>154526134People that grew up with the show were locked inside because of Covid and trying to think of ways to pass the boredom, so they started to spam Fanboy and Chum Chum like it was some kind of lost classic as a joke.
>>154526134Glitch Techs came out and the creator of Fanboy co-created it.
>>154526134I thought fanboy and chum-chum was just dumb fun, like most shows on nickelodeon.
>>154526330Nick picked it over Adventure Time.
>>154526366Adventure Time's pitch bible was infamously terrible and Fanboy and Chum Chum's was extremely professional. When you look at the two side by side you'd think AT would have failed and FB+CC would have been the success. Honestly it's pretty funny that AT became the juggernaut it did while FB+CC was pretty shit.
>>154526428Or you know, you could judge them based on their respective pilots?
>>154526330It was crap
>>154526428The Adventure Time pilot was viral in 2007 or so and had positive feedback online, and yet Nick still didn't greenlit it.
>>154526489That's sadly not how executive retards function. I'm sure they ended up kicking themselves over it long-term though, even if it did make sense in the moment.
>>154526489>>154526517You guys are acting like 50+ year old corporate executives in 2007 would have given a fuck or even really been aware of what was happening on the internet back then. All that they saw were the pitch bibles, and Ward's looked like a bunch of unorganized grade school doodles while Robles's looked professionally drawn and met industry standards for what a pitch bible was supposed to look like. Was it ultimately a bad move? Fuck yeah it was, probably lost Viacom billions in merchandise sales and ad revenue. Did it look like the right move to a bunch of old men circa 2007? Sure did.
>>154526505like most, if not all, on nickelodeon
>>154526702No, contrarian
>>154526567Also Robles had more industry experience, he has worked on animation since the late 1990s on shows like Toonsylvania and Robo Cop: Alpha Commando
Ran from 3 year, I think has rerun for years and then a special in 2014.Of course many children would remember fondly as the shitty cartoon they watch to laught like TTG and uncle grandpa>B-but those are goodThey weren't
>>154527076But those are good
>>154527076UG was>>154527090Only UG
>>154527076The special was on DVD in 2011.
>>154527122People keep saying Uncle Grandpa was good all along, but they never recommend their favorite episodes or post gags from it. Feels like contrarian zoomers hyping it up because they grew up with it.
>>154526134Steven Crybabyverse
>>154526134Fuckboi and Cumdump
>>154527714>>154528174not their names
>>154527165Aunt grandma episode, the bit with moon man hanging out with pizza Steve than going to hang out with Moon man instead once pizza Steve was gone and pulled out a second moon man. Uncle Grandpa using his canon to sink Lars and Sadie‘s ship.
>>154528712>This is how latinxs imagine the UG/SU crossover
>>154526366Based Nick
>>154530567No
>>154526567The funny thing is that Nick did try to push Fanboy toys and merch, but nobody was biting.
>All of the Random shorts were considered potential pilots in the same way that all the Cartoon Network CARTOON CARTOON shorts were potential pilots and led to PowerPuff Girls and Dexters Lab, Johnny Bravo, etc. so yes. We had hoped that Bronk and Bongo would have gone to series and the idea was that each episode would launch them out of the current job they had and they would land seemlessly into the next job they’d get in the next short creating a long Möbius strip of a narrative when the series wrapped up. Nickelodeon was going through changes at the top at the time and unfortunately they only aired Oh, Yeah! Random Cartoons once to burn off their contractual obligations. And they didn’t seem hugely interested in many of the shorts. Back then Nickelodeon would look for things that were similar to something that was already a hit. For example their quest for a Pokemon led to Avatar the last Airbender and Pixar’s “CARS” led to Blaze and the Monster Machines . My assumption was Jimmy Neutron having done well led to interest in Fanboy and ChumChum.Fanboy only got picked up because of Jimmy Neutron being a success due to the usage of CGI.
>>154528973fuck thanks for reminding me of this
>>154531766I feel like this episode wouldn't have made much sense to anyone not chronically online already.
>>154531766The Sadie/Lars stuff was some of the absolute worst shit in SU. Why did Suger bring it back in SU future? NO ONE CARED
>>154526489>>154526567IIRC, Chris O'Neill and Zach Hadel were originally called to make a pitch for Hellbenders to [AS].By and large, the biggest reason they didn't get picked up is because it lacked things like a proper show bible and really had no idea what they were doing for the pitch. Executives take chances, but they aren't willing to fuck around if you can't explain how you intend to teach other people to emulate your style at the very least.Hadel in particular was able to draw from that experience and go back to the drawing board to eventually pitch Smiling Friends.I don't know if he's ever explicitly stated it, but I suspect the major reason he looked for celebrity internet animators on Smiling Friends was specifically so he could give them the guidance he'd wished he'd gotten back when he did Hellbenders.
>>154526134It would go harder if it were 2d
