1000th prog and the most cerimonial cover the editor could accept was Slaine in a white background?

Is this Pat Mill's biggest dud?
>Amazing first book with Carlos Ezquerra
>Story about American atrocities in the third world, some real and some fictionalized
>Second book brings on a new artist and co-writer
>Suddenly the story which is supposed to be about ww3 is about politics in the UK and civil rights
>Several issues of nothing happening with no clear way for the main characters to defeat the evil megacorp
>Get canned
>Soft rebooted as Finn in 2000AD
>Suddenly the bad guys are aliens and everyone has pagan super powers because it's 2000ad so it has to be sci-fi
I really liked Finn but I have to question what the point of this series even was.
>>
>>154529020
anon that was 30 years ago
>>
>>154529199
50 year anniversary is in February I think.
>>
>>154530554
Finn was Slaine for people who thought Slaine should drive a cab and bust in through the window yelling "uzi nine millimeter" while murdering everybody in the manner of various 80s/90s action movies

basically what would Slaine be without the pseudohistory and instead tied to extremely 90s concerns, which, naturally, are caused by extremely limited numbers of very evil people working for dark gods, and not just by the general mass of people making self-interested decisions every day
>>
>>154530588
My disapointment will transcend time itself

Do British comics count as Eurocomics?
>>
>>154530795
Yes, all the best artists are usually Spanish.
>>
>>154530632
Yes! :D On the 21st, while the super special celebratory issue will be released 3 days later

Where's Dan Dare?
I don't see his distinctive eyebrows anywhere.
Are all characters from one publisher and they couldn't get the rights to Dan?
>>
>>154531156
Should be a goodie. Hopefully megasized.
>>
>>154531522
It's the 2000 AD features. Rebellion (the publisher) doesn't have rights to Dan Dare

>hurrgh evil super men! power always corrupts, no matter how well someone is raised! better shackle them with government lest they go eating and raping babies
>good heavens! this police state sure is horrible! how could we have avoided having such a government? better introduce a super man to dismantle it
>oh my! here is the ghastly tale of a super man eating and raping babies
WW2 killed the foundational British myth and replaced it with a milquetoast globalist nerd; afraid to death of personal power, aware of government corruption but always feeding it for fear of powerful men taking charge for good or ill.

He got his revenge, and now he rest in peace, Anon. It's as happy an ending as a being like him can hope for.

Who even owns the Dan Dare Rights these days?
I know Virgin comics did a series written by Garth Ennis but I can't really think of anything that brand has done since then.
I think Hickman tried to make him the grandfather of one of his OCs during his Avengers run, but they changed that character's name for trade, presumably for legal reasons
>>
>>154528504
Are there no bodacious babes in Brit cbs?
>>
>>154537393
From what I understood, he's owned not by any publisher but by the Dan Dare Corporation, the publishers just have the license
>>
>>154529701
There's no way this guy's name's really "Moorcock"
>>
>>154537409
Have they just been sitting on the IP for a decade plus now?
Admittedly, I'm not sure what you could even do with it these days outside of reprints. Dan Dare's heyday was the 50s
>>
>>154537444
Rebellion Developments and Titan Books produced some collected editions of the 2000 AD and Eagle stories (respectively), B7 Media an audio adaptation, Titan Comics a 4-issue limited series and B7 Comics is going to release a new graphic novel this November. That's all that happened in the last 10 years.

well were getting a Judge Dredd Biker Mice of Mars crossover...for whatever reason.
Written by Dan Watters of all people, which I think makes this his first 2000AD work
>>
>>154543578
Fuck off with the crossovers already.
>>
>>154544266
When was the last one?
The Battle action/2000AD doesn't count as that was more about turning Battle action strips into 2000AD as an experiment

Brink is good.
Mostly because it’s a slow burn of True Detective (s1) In Space.
Currently getting to the implausible part of the X-Files though.
>>
No really small press stuff here.
But that seems normal considering /co/ doesn’t talk about small press stuff in the US either.
>>
>>154537393
yeah Hickman didn't even check

>>154537409
it looks like they get by on merch and reprint; actually producing new material is relatively expensive by comparison

don't think they're bringing in big bucks but don't think it's on a knife edge either
>>
>>154545247
The only UK comics that are discussed on /co/ are either 2000AD or archived stuff like Commando or Picture Library archives.
The proper indie stuff in the UK is completely underground
>>
>>154542147
Third one is the worst. First one is pretty good though.

>>154528504

It's right and fitting that Alan Moore would be in this image, but why is he wearing an eyepatch?

i'm surprised theres only really been....one? videogame crossover with dredd

I recall there was a skin pack for him in COD a few years back (2020?) but nothing since then, to my knowledge
i'd have thought they'd have tried to push for a dredd skin in fortnite or something
>>
>>154546283
that's Dirty Frank
>>
>>154550126
>push for

pay for

if you want Fortnite to market your legacy IP to preteens, you pay them
>>
>>154548749
There's these massive info dump pages every several pages in it, it's so... bad. But the first one was good, I thought.
Anyway, the indie darlings are all horrible writers even if a lot of them have cool art. Simon Roy, Emma Rios, Sheen & Ward or Graham and recently Linea Sterte. Cool art styles (but sometimes poor cartooning and sequential storytelling skills) but they're so empty headed it's no wonder their writing is so boring and crap.
>>
>>154547829
ehhhh it's one of his worse runs

really everything after he went to colour is pretty bad
>>
>>154528504
why do all of them in the pic related reflect madness
>>
>>154550126
because Rebellion is a video game company themselves

>>
>>154537441

>>
>>154550202
Sounds to me like you just want all comics to adhere to a certain brand of storytelling.
>>
>>154532967
We just think American super heroes are kind of cheesy on the whole. Even at the peak of it's power, Britain wasn't producing stuff like that.
Victorian British heroes are also pretty much hard-boiled men of action.
American heroes can usually be boiled down to some kind of puritanical frontiersman who "brings justice".
>>
>>154537441
that is really his name

he's only 86 and still alive, you can ask him yourself
>>
>>154552391
>Victorian British heroes are also pretty much hard-boiled men of action.

well maybe not the Scarlet Pimpernel
>>
>>154550126
He'd be neat as a guest character in a fighting game.
>>
>>154545180
Name on her shirt is Carter but that's not ringing any bells. Nikolai is my favourite 2000 AD character too.
>>
>>154531522
I can't think about Dan Dare anymore without remembering the time he got raped by the Mekon.
>>
>>154552444
it wouldn't even be hard to justify
>>
>>154552758
QRD?
>>
>>154552797
>Dredd as the cop who has come to shut down the illegal fighting tournament
>>
>>154553076
you see, on the Mekon's planet, Dan Dare is considered a clown
>>
>>154552444
dredd was best fit in mortal kombat

wasn't there a rumour he was going to be in MK11 but it was swapped to robocop instead?
>>
>>154550202
I really like Sterte. She is similar to Moebius, in that the writing in her comics doesn't matter much (and isn't anything astounding), but the art is beautiful and carries my interest. There is an ethereal fantasy quality that I haven't seen replicated in practically anyone else. Finding her work reminds me so much of when I first discovered Moebius.
>>
>>154537441
At least it's not Givepenis.
>>
>>154552709
That's Vegas Carter from Flesh.

I couldn't tell you who the bald guy in the gimp suit next to Dirty Frank is, nor the "DD" guy next to Smith and Fear, behind Sinister and Mean. Not sure who the creep with the pipe next to Hammerstein is either.
>>
>>154552167
No. I just want good writing in comics.
>>154554261
Her illustrations are good but her sequential storytelling as seen in World Heist in very lacking. And then the frog thing was a bit too barebones. Couple all these with poor writing and she's just another artist with a cool style but poor comics. Too bad.
>>
>>154555137
What is good writing?
>>
>>154528504

Gimp-suiter is Uriel from Necrophim, one of Lucifer's lieutenants and protagonist of the series. I'm pretty sure DD-Man is a 2000AD version of Dan Dare, funnily enough >>154531522. Without the eyebrows and the slightly odd colours its just barely enough to be legally distinct
>>
>>154545341
It can be quite hard to get hold of comics in general if you don't live in or near a city, never mind non-superhero stuff. I tended to load down with smaller press and indie things at Thought Bubble, but I've not been able to go since the pandemic.
>>
>>154555971
Halo Jones isn't cynical, but reading it will make you cynical.
>>
>>154554184
I've not heard that rumour but it not something that would surprise me
>>
>>154556027
Why are you embarrassed?
>>

I liked A Frog in the Fall and A Garden of Spheres the most. Those two are pretty great.
World Heist is her most lacking.
>>
>>154555971
the guy and dog from Red Sails as well
>>
>>154557106
A Frog in the Fall is also lacking.

Dedd Thredd
>>

Storytime shills are starting to show up, but they won't drop by here because they don't care about comics.

>>
>>154557704
Too minimalist and lacking not only in the writing department but even drawing as some pages are simply repeated and are overly empty and lacking in motion.

I'm shocked by the absence of ribbing Brink by Droid Life,
>>

Grant Morrison rebooted the comic in an obscure anthology called revolver and it's way more dark and retarded.
>>
>>154543578
