For me, Jonathan Kent was the foster son of Clark and Lois adopted from Zod & Ursa. This was after Pa Kent passed away on Bizarro World, so it made sense that the characters were emotionally reeling. A conscious decision was made to surrender him to The Phantom Zone, and constantly recycling characters cheapens them as a whole, because the next regime is just gonna undo it anyway. The better interpretation of Superman’s semi-retirement and family life is Superman & Lois. Their zeitgeist for Luthor feels malignant, a sickness. That’s what a villain should be. Bizarro is just Superman after he gets addicted to blue kryptonite and turns into a crackhead so his wife leaves him.
